Just throwing an idea out here for some feedback:

Anyone considered crowdfunding D/AP testing? For example, take a vote on popular juices, set a funding target for some of the most prominent ones & display the results. This could help clarify some of the questions surrounding the whole D/AP issue like rumors of inconsistent test results for like samples. This seems like a potentially cost effective way to gain some insight into the validity of some of the popular labs catering to e-juice companies. It also opens up the possibility of commissioning more independent labs without ties to the vaping industry, and more sensitive (and expensive) testing down to ppb as opposed to the more popular ppm that's being used right now. If viable, other questionable chemicals could also be added to the testing criteria, I think.

Altogether I think the recent trend toward testing is a much needed step in the right direction (and kudos to those companies taking the initiative), but I'm all for anything that's going to shed some more light on the subject & continue pushing the trend of greater transparency.

Johnson Creek just published their test results along with a letter from their CEO :

We now have 3rd party test results for our 36 flavors, and I am happy to post a statement from our CEO about diacetyl and acetyl propionyl. If you have any questions, I will try to grab the appropriate people today to answer them as soon as I can, but the letter from Christian is below. -SB

7 ½ years ago when I started Johnson Creek Vapor Company, it was because I couldn’t find an e-liquid manufacturer in the United States. Back then, everything was coming from China and I was concerned about the quality of the liquid I was vaping.

Today, the same principle holds true, quality is our number one priority. We make e-liquid for the sole purpose of our customers’ enjoyment.

Although, there is no defined standard for diacetyl or acetyl propionyl content in e-liquid, 5 μg/mL (or 5ppm) is a recommended detection level used within the e-liquid manufacturing industry when testing for the presence of these two compounds in the e-liquid itself. This detection limit is a recommendation from Dr. Farsalinos based on his research on diacetyl and acetyl propionyl content in e-liquid.

We decided that a stricter limit of detection was appropriate for our tests to provide our customers with the most comprehensive information on diacetyl and acetyl propionyl content.

After thorough 3rd party testing by Enthalpy Analytical, we found 15 of our 36 flavors contain diacetyl and or acetyl propionyl above a threshold of 1.13ppm.

The 15 flavors are Autumn Crisp, Birchwood Menthol, Birchwood Peach, Birchwood Tobacco, Birchwood Vanilla, Domestic, Gold Reserve, Island, JC Original, OSJ Tennessee Cured, Solstice, Red Oak Tennessee Cured, Tundra, Vanda, and Wisconsin Frost.

We are currently working on reformulating the 15 flavors for diacetyl and acetyl propionyl to have non-detectable levels of diacetyl or acetyl propionyl. Although we began posting test results of newly launched flavors on our website last month, the test results for the rest of our flavors will be uploaded to each product page on our website within the week and on our FAQ’s. In the meantime, I am posting the results here on reddit.

We took our time in reviewing the data, because we wanted to ensure accurate results for our customers and potential future customers. Feel free to reach out to us directly by commenting below or e-mailing us at comments@jcvc.com with any ideas, comments or to tell us how we’re doing. As always, I thank you for your continued support and business.

Original Smoke Juice !? Might be their flagship liquid.
I hope not, but think you may be right.

Tennessee Cured was my first favorite liquid.
And is probably still the best one I've ever tasted by far.

I haven't had it in a long time though, because it produces very little vapor.
But I was thinking I might like to try some again.

Sadly, looks like I'm not going to.
:(

fwiw, the diacetyl level is only 3.58 j on that juice. The j indicates that while the value is within the detection limits of the equipment used, it falls outside the standard deviation set for the calibration test. This juice would have likely showed nd in less sensitive testing. Your decision though :)

Just ordered a 5ml sample sized bottle.
:)

Part of me hopes I don't like it.
Just in case they "reformulate" it to remove such trace levels.

It would suck if I like it and the reformulated version sucks.

The trick would be coming up with a list of favorite juices.
Especially since those that are most concerned are probably doing DIY these days.

But I liked your post anyway, and think it would be a good idea if it could work.
:)

Love the idea of pulling together and doing testing but agree with DC2, it would be very hard to pick which flavors with all of us liking different vendors/juices. I really thought the Harvard Study that was all over the news and FB last week would lite a fire again for vapors wanting vendors to test but it seems that didn't happen. LOLOL

True, I dunno if it'd really work or not, but I think I'd be more than willing to cough up $20 or so with a dozen others if we we could agree that it was something we were vaping all day and wanted an independent look at what's really in it. Frankly it'd probably help keep pressure on vendors too that many people actually care about this sort of thing. A lot of the recent controversy seems to come not just from VaporShark testing other manufacturers juice, but also individuals saying "Ok, I'm willing to pay the $150 to see what's in this"--that's obviously really cost-prohibitive for an individual though.

Probably because the vendors who care have already tested or are in the process of doing so while the ones who are content trusting the word of flavor providers are continuing to do that and the ones that don't care all still don't care.

VERY nice. While their results are not perfect, their goal and their transparency are HIGHLY commendable. A GREAT example for other vendors to follow. Kudo's to Johnson Creek!

Naturally Extracted Tobacco has second round testing information on their website. Been up for a little while but I keep forgetting to post it here.
www.Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco.com, e-liquids for electronic cigarettes

The FIRST ROUND of testing included a few of our "hybrid" flavorings (caramel, Madagascar vanilla), one of our eLiquids (tRY4.1) and 16 of our extracts (Big Spirit, NS Dark, Black Cavendish, Deep Caramel Pipe, Coventry, Brigadier Peach, Orange Blossom Honey, Framboises et Vanille, Fresh Ground Mocha Cafe, Starry Night, the Ruins, Red Virginia, Choctaw Perique, Sun Cured Turkish, Smoked Latakia, and Black Pekoe Tea extract which is used in both the Black Pekoe Tea and SweeTea eLiquids).

Wth our SECOND ROUND of testing, we now have results for additional tobacco extracts (Air Cured Burley, Balkan, Black Cherry, Bombay, Chris' Blend, Excalibur, Hot Chocolate, Mango Vanilla, Natural Cavendish, Oak Cask, and Rum Rebellion), and more of our "Hybrid" flavorings (Blackberry #1, Black Walnut, French Vanilla, Maple, Peach, Red Apple, and Strawberry). Additional results for Mexican Vanilla ("Hybrid" flavoring) and Buttered Rum (tobacco extract) which are both being used in currently unreleased products we plan to add soon! We are very happy to announce that all 20 of the tested products from round 2 came back as Non-detected (ND) for all three diketone targets!

We decided to test the extracts as they are undiluted and thus more likely to show if any diketones were present as testing the eLiquid would be more likely to show as Not Detected (ND) if the dilution brought a concentration below the limit of detection of the assay (GC-MS).

To view the results, click on the eLiquid or extract of any of the above-mentioned products, then click the Lab Analysis: diketones tab next to the product description tab.

We will continue testing until all of our extracts and hybrid flavorings have been analyzed, and will in all cases post the results as we receive them.

I think its time for us to make an official list. This list will be for juice that has been tested by a third party lab, and the results have been made public. I will consider this thread to be a work in progress until the day comes when all juice is tested. I will add vendors and links to the tests as they become available.
I ask for all of your help with this list. Im sure that I dont know them all, and I hope that more will be yet to come. Please bring my attention to any vendors that should be on this list. I may miss a post here, so please feel free to message me with vendors AND LINKS TO TESTS. We will not be adding any to the list that dont have public test results and are free of diketones. Some of these vendors have d and/or ap detected on some of their tests. this has been noted on them. you will have to check the tests to see which ones.
We have now put this in a spreadsheet. This way it can be edited later.

Here is a vendor that tests all of his products and cares a lot about what he is putting in his bottles (IMHO): Psychedelic Steam

The Fog Mafia now has all test results up on the website here unique e liquid, new e liquid flavors, new e juice flavors just click on the eliquid testing tab for results

the fog mafia is good and bad imho.
"vendetta" is one of the best flavors I have ever tried, and pbusardo agrees too.
however I think ALL of the fruit flavors they do are bad. not sure why, they just don't do fruits very well.
all the non-fruit flavors they have are pretty good, but vendetta is really the star of the show.
