LOL. Easy there big fella! Panic is a little premature. I finally read through the whole thread and what I got out of it is that fragments from a worn silica wick could theoretically be inhaled in vapor...maybe, and if so that would be really bad...maybe. And if so then maybe some of the alternative wick materials being experimented with would be safer. There's some good common sense and impressive ad hoc kitchen table engineering by some ingenious individuals, but not exactly hard science or clinical studies. Having said that, I'm all in, as I just happen to have plenty of cotton gauze laying around and I can't resist.:)

Big *lady*, my friend. And a bit high-strung one. Though my post was half in jest. But only *half*. :D

I'm in the process of reading that thread - it's interesting. I do think that cotton is promising. So much so that I'm going to take a run to the pharmacy and get some gauze and try it. Especially since I just destroyed my last ViVi head. It wasn't wicking well, so I started fiddling with the wick and pulled it out accidentally.

The coil is fine. But it has no wick. So my ViVi is now residing in pieces in a box. Gotta fix that... I wonder how I am going to stick a new wick in without taking out the coil...

I just thought I would give my experience with the Fluxo Supremes.

The first juice I used in them was 30/70 PG/VG. I had to remove the inner plug because the juice was too thick to drip down the sides. I went ahead and fluffed the wicks because I already had the silicon plug removed. After filling I replaced it and vaped away. Overall, this was a pretty good experience but I had a few burt hits every once and a while. Over time, my 'inner plug removal tool' (made out of a throwing dart that I bent the tip on to make a hook) started tearing the plug. Eventually, I decided just to try it without the plug because along with it tearing I noticed the atomizer was burning the silicon. I inserted my own 510 drip tip and what do you know, absolutely no leaking! I have held it upside down for about 2 minutes and there were no signs of leakage. When I went to hit it, I expected gurgling from flooding. Nope, it hit perfectly. :vapor::D:vapor:

EXACTLY...this is what I learned, and it works perfect!!! My drip tip sits snug against the ceramic cup and absolutely NO leaking, even upside down...flavor is AWESOME...no more dry burning taste, even chain vaping!!! Those nipples are cute, but they get pushed down, and that's where the burning starts!

Don't fret the silica too much. The issue is, as I said in that thread, are the particles SMALL enough to get into the terminal airways...that's how you get silicosis. I don't think they are.

And the other question is, even if they are, does the vapor they travel with even make down there?

And another: Is vape a good carrier for these things? a good enough carrier I mean?

Inhaling cotton particles can be bad for you as well. My personal guess is that SS mesh is probably safest, followed closely by cotton or bamboo. But who knows. Its just guessing at this point.

I tried to mod the dang silicon nipple and the vaping experience is definitely better. The flavor came out a little more and there was no leaking. HOWEVER, every 5th or 6th vape I still taste the damn silicon burning. It's an annoying after taste that I am not willing to live with. I am going to stick with the original plan and throw these nipples in the trash and use these until they die. To be honest, I will not order anymore fluxomizers and it's a shame. I love the idea of seeing my juice go down and not having the filler. I am so hesitant to try the Phoenix, I wish there was a way to just get one to sample instead of wasting on an entire box (hint, hint!!)

dannoman, you posted a video on vaping these and boasted on the flavor, can you honestly tell me that you do not taste the silicon every once in a while? It's just terrible!!

I can't speak for danno, but I just filled a new one this morning. No mod invloved. Just filled, primed the wick, let it sit for a few minutes, and vaped. Not a hint of burnt taste. There's obviously a consistency issue with factory assembly. Some will burn the cup seal, some won't. Normally, I've just gone ahead and trimmed off the underside of the cup seal before filling. The one I'm using now, I didn't. I wanted to try it "stock"; and it's been vaping perfectly for half a carto full.

Like I said, even with adjusting the seal and removing the underside, I still got a burnt taste. It's not every vape and it's very random. This goes with different juices and is, of course, more prominent when my e-power is fully charged.

bigpman all you need to do is find an alternate top seal and you'll be in heaven, I promise. try slicing a standard carto mouthpiece at about 1/3rd and using it as a flat top, it should work perfectly.

the nipple seals are garbage, working properly hinges upon the just right combination of volts and ohms, and things being seated right on the order of a few mms. in reality, its not a reliable or sustainable situation

sure if you vape in the 'genuine' ego range of 3.3. volts you're less likely to have a problem, with anything really. and if you're able to be happy in that range all that better for you and your lungs. but if not, its gonna be a problem eventually.

all the 'they work great for me out of the box' reviews that come in about the fluxos and phoenix are great, and if I were gotvapes I'd want to read them. but they don't help any of us having a less than ideal experience at all, nor do they address the fundamental design flaws in these units.

A few customers with poor results (and lets face it, about half of use have bad results with all clearos out of the box) should be enough of a wake up call. The fluxo is my favorite vape period, but only after I've made it work for me.

Cyrus,

That might just be my next try. I do like the Vape from these without the seals, with a fresh 14650, and i could see them coming alive at 4.2 volts even more. Hence I am planning my VV next. The fluxos is not good out of the box, but I do see the potential. I start my day with these, while my battery is fresh, and close the day on my resurrectors.

This works perfectly! Ditch the silicon plug, insert drip tip, no leaking and the flavor is sooooooo much better!

Also thanks to the person who gave the link on how to fluff the wick. I never could figure out how to do that. Can't believe it but I guess even I now can do a little "modding".

Now I just have to switch posts and figure out why I'm getting a burnt taste in some of my phoenix's.

TY all for your input!

What would work is just some Old Rev "3.x" Clear/White Seals and Mouth Pieces. The Newest Carto works Wick and Coil wise.

Yep, I have loads of those. But I like the conversion seals that GV sold for a short time, even though you couldn't use the tip that came with them. They worked great with a regular drip tip.

bump for the best clearo known to man :)

bad, I noticed a few of my ten new fluxos have a purplish ground wire, and an unshielded bare metal post wire (instead of two black shielded wires).

i've heard unshielded copper is a no no in exposed juice, just wondering if you knew anything about the wire change and what it was made out of?

I have a ? regarding these.

I got a burnt taste on my 2nd Supreme XL so I followed some of the ideas on this thread.

I took the seal out and cut the underside thingy down. I also fluffed the wicks a bit. After putting it back together I still get a burnt taste. I vaped it for a while to see if it would go away, but no dice.

Would a dry-burn solve this problem? Maybe there's silicone on the coil

Thanks,

Chris
