ohhhhhh , i think this device will be exactly what i'm looking for. I don't mind the pre-order Steve , a few weeks is fine... a few months? not so much , and like i'm sure everyone will say.... PUT ME ON THE LIST TO BE A TESTER!!

I say no wait until you have stock , unless you need pre-orders to fund it
but with that said I want a prodigy ! and you don't even have those stocked yet or pre-orders filled get the prodigy sorted out before undertaking a waiting period for this .

Prodigy funds are being pumped in to the Protege ... Its a never end re-investment game We will not release the Protege until all Prodigy orders are filled with Prodigy's in stock and ready to go

It seems I have noticed several minor design and manufacturing tool changes to the Prodigy in the last couple of weeks leading me to believe the version shipping now may be slightly improved from the first ones shipped. Is this an accurate assessment or have any changes really been insignificant? Do you feel a similar process may occur with the Protégé or it will be pretty much nailed from the beginning?

hey gj ... there are been no design or tool changes to date ... The only change was the press fitting of the brass into the adapter itself, and that wasn't so much a change as a correction There will be a tooling change come mid next week though ... we sent off the center housing for both the Prodigy and USBpass to be made out of Hard Rubber now instead of Plastic ... They should come out quite nice, and it also cuts down on the times having to manufacturer that single piece in house. The Protégé should be nailed from the get go, considering the tool to press the adapters (which was the correction for the Prodigy) has already been made and things are being pressed correctly now

my thoughts on the V2, if you are going to produce and sell the device, why not some testing first?
would it be that big of a deal to produce 10 or 20 of them, ship them out to some lucky PS customers, let them review it, catch any flaws, suggest any improvements?

Hey Motocity ... That's what the Prototypes are for ... They are hand made, not machine mad, that are later spec'ed for the machines. The Prototypes have never left a close circle of people around me (Family/Friends/Etc...) and we do quite a bit of stress testing of all components. I really find making a few and shipping out, uneeded at this point due to very simple design changes. The *model* itself is sturdy, all we did was miniaturize it

I like the idea of the 3.7v option ,, call me crazy but there are times I prefer the lower voltage compared to the higher voltage .

I think that if you state the terms of the the pre-order terms and conditions (disclaimers as mentioned earlier) and then use your web site for order status updates, I for one would like to see the pre-orders start as soon as You think it is appropriate. You have always proven to us that you put customer satisfaction as a top priority,, I trust that you will continue to make great decisions.
Question: will the same batteries be able to be run in both the prodigy and the protege? I.e can I run a (2)900mah the prodigy?

Glad to see you are coming out with a smaller, 3.7v device.
I love the name "Protege". I too thought it was perfect when Antebellum first mentioned it.

Now, my suggestions for your pre-order dilemma .....

1. Take pre-order now with a 10% discount for payment in advance with set cut-off date.
Anything after that date pays full price. They can guarantee their place in the queue when
shipping starts and be rewarded for their faith in PureSmoker.
Set a date for release far enough in advance so everyone knows the score from the get-go.
If they ship sooner, everybody is happy.

2. Or, put anyone interested in pre-order on a list. Again, they will guarantee their place in
the queue when shipping starts. Approx 2 weeks before shipping, send them all an email
stating that they have 1 week to complete their order and pay or they will be dropped from
the list. No one has their money tied up for months and you get a general idea of how many to manufacture.

3. Some hybrid combination of the 2.

Whatever you decide, count me in !!!!! I will happily support a fellow Tennessean .
I feel bad for not being able to do so sooner but I was waiting for the right device for me.

Look forward to seeing some previews of this unit as I think it is right up my alley. What are you estimating the battery life on this unit? I am looking for something that will go 6+ hours if not more. Tired of changing the batteries on my Dura-C.

I for one enjoyed the long pre-order on the Prodigy. It was exciting following it through all the different phases on it's way to release.

Also because the credit card bill was paid and the money long forgotten when one day...viola! I had a Prodigy in my hands without thinking about the $$

Pretty please, with sugar on top, give us long preorder. I will be happy if you block my email address until the order is shipped. Also, we can surely find some volunteers to keep the nasty inpatient whiners quiet.

I just don't want to end up in a situation where I have to check every day if the ordering started. For a month or so. I might even give in and order JS. Just take my money, and let me forget about it. And then one day, there's a nice surprise in my mailbox.

one thing...protege is a great name. i should have mentioned it as well, but my idea was for the discussion of making a dropper attachment (ala The Fang) and naming it the Protege

as for the preorder, my vote is for the 1-2 weeks. it's tough though. i guess i waited like a month for the prodigy, not a big deal, but the hardest time was from when it was said "hey it's done and shipping" that the anticipation got bigger. when no one has one, it isn't so bad...but once others are getting theirs then i started wanting it more. make sense?

not your fault by any means, but definitely increased the "omg i want that" factor of the item.

i've also posted about 5v vs "standard" 3.7v ecigs, and me personally, it was horrible going back to a standard 3.7v 901 style. well, horrible is a strong word, but it is just subpar. it's like drinking decaf...what's the point?

however...i do also understand that standard ecig batteries do not run full potential all the time and gradually degrade, whereas these standardized batteries perform well all the way through? is that about right?

so my own personal dilemma is, the prodigy is great, but even i have some apprehension of using it everywhere, but i will use it most places. i would enjoy a more discreet device that works on par with the prodigy, so i do think i'd get one, even knowing that it just won't feel as "good" the prodigy, just to use on those occasions.

however...based on that...specs and size will be great to know i believe you've mentioned it will be near the same size as the USBpass?

Not to be a jerk but this is one of the excate reasons why i voted for 1-2 weeks before shipping.

Things like batteries and excate specs might change during the phases leading up to final production. This happened with the prodigy and it didnt bother me one bit because i knew you where developing a product to please everyone.
However with that said it might be best not to actually release any of that information untill you have your preorder ready to go and all the facts nailed down in place.
just my humble opinon.
oh and btw im still chuggin on my prodigy with pride its a great device.

I don't understand the logic above. I want to be able to order Protege immediately, so that I don't have to worry that I am going to miss the order window if I don't access ECF or PS every week. At the same time, if I am online, I would like to see the specs changes. There are people who don't like to see food when they are hungry, I and many others on the other hand love it. If you belong to the former group, stop watching food channel before dinner, don't ask them to cancel all shows between 4 and 6.

So, if Steve allows us, who are prepared to wait without deadline and not complain, order now and get a surprise gift sometime in the future, possibly this year but not guaranteed, how does that hurt the people who want to know that it will start shipping in 2 weeks before they order?

Steve, just open the pre-order with disclaimers and specific statement that ECF threads are just pure fiction, even if posted by you, and the only dates that should be taken into the account are the dates on the PS site. Whoever voted "long preorder" can order immediately. Once you're sure that you'll start shipping in 1-2 weeks, post the date on your site, and people who wanted 1-2 week preorder can post their order. Finally, when you have them in stock, post it at your site and people who voted for no preorder can start as well. No harm no foul.

I would most likely want to know the details of what Protégé will look like and how it will work. If it ends up being just a smaller Prodigy with lower voltage, I don't think I would get too excited about that. But if there was something else that would distinguish Protégé from the rest of similar devices, I'd be all over it. One specific thing would be portability.

When I saw the JantyStick at first I wished they would have designed it so it was possible to simply slide the atomizer and mouthpiece into the unit housing when you finish vaping. That way a small box without anything sticking out of it would contain everything you need in a protected and portable little box.

Perhaps Protégé could use some folding mechanism where the atomizer/mouthpiece could be simply folded flush with the battery when not in use, making it compact enough to put into ones pocket without the need to unscrew the atomizer first.
