Thanks for the offer TBinAZ I appreciate it, but I did pick some up today at hobby lobby. Its Aunt Lydia's #3 100% Viscose from Bamboo, I hope its the right stuff. Its not the same thing pictured when I looked it up but I figured its pretty much the same thing :)

It's the same thing, just a thicker thread

That's a great find. I think the #3 is fairly new, and like Duckonquack mentions, it's thicker than 10. This stuff wicks a bunch better than cotton. This stuff will work great with these glass tubes.

lol I got the #3 because thats all they had :) I have lots of stuff to test out, just haven't gotten around to it. I have finals this week and next so I've been busy. When they are over I dive fully into experimentation mode with this glass project.

I just wanted to thank TB here for sending out those samples... unfortunately the usps did a number on them but I think I may have two long enough pieces to make a short coil cover out of still. It is awesome that you were so willing to share out stuff to us and I really do want to thank you for that generosity, If I figure out anything or at least make a decently working one I will post info here after the weekend.

One thing I have seen relating to the drop in production once the top cap is on based on all the great posts here... since the main volume of vapor is forced out the top, and we seem to have the air holes super cooling that glass cover, I really think either moving the air hole up to meet the top of the glass, or doing a super short coil like I saw in an earlier post, may be a necessity to get these guys working well.

Just got my AGA Tiamat today and am looking forward to abusing it this weekend... great little device for the 22 bucks I paid!

Thanks to TB for sharing your quartz! Unfortunately only one tube survived its trip to my house :(

But that's okay! I was about to set it up in the AC9 and wow! Talk about insane. This thing already wicks like a beast, and this has improved it in wicking and flavor! I'm really enjoying this setup; it'll be nice to not have to setup new coils so often.

Mine arrived today also. Thank you. Well like Cath's 1 1/2 of mine arrived today. But i actually think if I can grind/smooth the broken piece it will be just the right height for my ZAP.

Sorry guys. I'm starting to think that the crash and burns were packaged up by my neighbor. He was a little tipsy at the time. Careful trying to clean up that ragged end, and don't use a file or a grinding wheel of any kind. It doesn't work very well at all. Sanding is your best bet.

Would regular sand paper or emery cloth work to sand it?

Emery would probably work the best, but I picked up some less expensive stuff for glass/metal/etc in a pack at Home Despot. It was pretty inexpensive. Start with like a 320 or so, light to moderate pressure sands to remove any large burrs, and then work your way up in grit number to what is right for you. Wet sanding works the best. It takes a few mins, but not bad. Be sure to wash out the tube after.

How is everyone cutting their Pyrex or fused quartz. I seem to be really good at crumbling the stuff.

@TB thank you for sharing your quartz. Very generous of you

Ive been scoring it with a diamond wheel by hand and wetting the score with saliva before slipping it into something like a pen tube about the right size. Score facing away and a quick snap, Bobs your uncle Fannys your aunt you got a tube cut to length.

Thought I'd bump this thread to mention that I refined the inner coil set up to pretty much perfection.

This evening I will start a new inner coil thread with some pics and full instructions. On lunch on my phone right now, but I am pretty exited with how well this method works that I wanted to give the intrepid moders inspired by Dan's thread a heads up.
