Do you heat these Ti fused claptons to make them contact coils? Or do you just to see if they heat evenly? My 26g Ti is on the way and I will be making fused claptons but I was going to try spaced first. I don't like dry-burning Ti or SS and haven't had much success with either. I was hoping to just wrap spaced Ti fused claptons, wick, and vape them.

Also, what wire do you use for your wraps? Kanthal or Ti as well?

Here's a pic of my 24g SS316L fused claptons. Came out to 0.09 ohms so I didn't even attempt doing one with my 24g Ti lol.

When I was first doing titanium Clapton and fused claptons I pulsed them very lightly at 10 watts and yes I always space them. Now that I've been doing so many titanium coils over the last 8 months or so I've found it almost not needed to pulse them at all. As long as your positive they are spaced correctly and that you have a solid connection with a atomizer you've used with TC before I would say you will be fine without pulsing. On my titanium coils I use kanthal as the wrap and haven't had any problems with that so far. I've got most of my titanium wire from fasttech and have ordered and tried/tested almost every type they have. They have 2 or 3 types of titanium there that is a pretty good quality and has performed flawlessly for me. If your going to be useing 26g as your core make sure to keep those wraps down to I would say 5 or 6, your vt200 should be able to heat just about anything you throw at it but it may get a little cramped in the rda. Good luck with the ti fused Clapton I'm sure you'll do well judging by the SS coil picture.

Why would I have to keep the wraps down to 5 or 6? That SS fused build is 24g core 7 wraps and it fits just fine in my TM.

BTW, how do you rewick your Ti claptons? Do you dry burn and rinse? I just rewicked my SS fused build and decided to make them contact coils. Dry burned, rinsed and everything and they turned out good as new.

I know I've said I like Crazy wire better then Unkamen but since is use the Kanger STM's exclusively the unkamen is a true 26awg and the STM I believe was designed for 26 awg the crazy wire is not as thick the Unk fits in so good with no problems with connection the CW I have to fiddle with to get it captured under the screws never with the Unk so easier to build with.

The STM's take 24 gauge Ti, from Rio Grande, very well under the screws too! Softer wire then the 1/2 hard Unkaman.

I'm using up the rest of my Ti and not reordering. The juice I vape gunks up the coils too much. I do love the flavor but to rebuild all the time is a pita. I have scraped and scraped to clean them. I have dry burned and scraped off the oxidization. It's all a pita. I'm just staying with NiFe and SS going forward.

Has anyone else tried this wire $8.21 Titanium Resistance Wire for Rebuildable Atomizers - 28 AWG / 0.32mm*50m at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping I just got some and it seems to be fine. It's somewhat springy compared to other Titanium wire I've used but seems to work as normal in TC mode. I try to make the highest ohm coils my mod will tolerate. Contact coils have been no problem. To mellow a new coil I leave the mod in temp control and reduce the watts to 8 and pulse the coil. After a bit of that I have no hot spots.

The obvious reason to like this wire is the price, $8 for 50m. I use 8" a week. Two rolls would last me 10 years, about the same amount of time as 3 liters of 100mg nic.

I didn't notice those first pictures you put up were spaced coils I thought they were contact by looking at them quickly. And the reason I would stick to or right around 6 is to make sure there is no chance of any wires touching. But either way as long as your positive they are spaced you should be good.

Ah. You are correct. With the 7 wraps spaced in there they weren't completely spaced. There was definitely contact in some areas.

In titanium, The lowest grade is the purest and the highest are alloy.
So Grade 1 Titanium (zivipf) is purer than Grade 10 which is an alloy.
The Grade 1 produce oxide at 500 C° (i think it is that temp, not quit sure) but not at normal coil temp.

Titanium dioxide isn't a problem. It's nearly inert, and the FDA classifies it as GRAS.

I do agree with that but I would rather be safe then sorry. I feel like titanium is one of the safest wires for vaping but I got this from lots of research. I just wouldn't tell people to dry fire til the coil is white then put on power mode. I'm pretty sure using it in power mode probably wouldn't be a problem but I still wouldn't recommend doing it.

Your haphazard comment is somewhat careless. If you say TiO2 is not a problem for inhalation, then good luck to you. Also, just because the FDA classifies it as GRAS doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned about it. On that note, I do personally prefer and use only Ti for TC and pulse my coils at a low wattage to ensure even heating.

What I think needs to be done in the vaping community is people need to be made aware that titanium isn't as dangerous as some people think. Many reviewers are saying that they won't use ti because of the health concerns, and that is making a lot of people run for the hills when it comes to ti. All of this happened because when ti was first being used a bunch of people started freaking out about ti02 and how it is forming in these normal spaced coils when in fact it doesn't unless your abusing the coils. Then people say ti will burst into flames which once again isn't true unless your useing a very thin gauge and are just sitting there dry firing at 200 watts. Ni200 is something I think that should be gone, until there are atleast some studies that show it doesn't leach into the cotton and doesn't get vaporized. SS I believe is a great option but as of now I think it's lacking in some degrees and I just feel better with ti. Sorry for the rant I just watched some reviews and just wish ti got a little more spotlight because it does do well for TC devices and as of now is more accurate then SS.

The way I understand it and I certainly could be wrong is that Ti02 forms at room temperature. So it is on the wire when we get it. It is so tightly bonded to the Ti "core" though that it takes super high heat to release it. This would be the abuse Rockwell is talking about. As long as you don't heat it up too high it stays bonded tightly.

If you get a hot leg or make a mistake of some kind you may accidentally inhale some someday. When I found out that Ti02 is everywhere and is sold as "food grade" I personally decided the risk just is not what many portray it to be. I will recoil if I make a mistake and vape on.

I'm running low on Ti now 2legsshrt

Was going to try some Unkamen this time but both Crazy Wire and Zivipf have been fine for me, albeit the latter very dirty

My daily carry is a STM so what wire is going to have the edge on flavour, longlivity & ease of build

When doing Ti claptons with kanthal o you feel it affects the flavor at all? I've got some 24g from unkamen working in my velocity but i find the flavor lacking. Best flavor i've had is from ni200 claptons 28 core wrapped with 30g all nickel. I've never done a TC clapton with kanthal, wondering if the kanthal mutes the flavor since most agree Ti has a good clean flavor when used alone. Thinking of wrapping one today.

Thanks

Way back in this thread I asked the same question, below was the response, and I've almost exclusively been using 24 gauge since. Easy to build if the brand wire is a little softer then some others, easy to pulse with a custom TCR on a DNA200, for checking build, and later for cleaning before rewicking. Though I thought I was being careful pulsing my 26 gauge, I've had it catch fire twice, just knocked it out on the floor, but it scared me at first. 24 gauge is much more hearty! Never had any issues with it.

CIGATRON's Ti Build:

"24g Ti-G1, 6 wraps spaced (wound on a 6-32 machine screw), 2.78mm ID, .20 ohm, wicked heavy with kgd.

26g with the same coil profile would be around .3 ohms, 28g around .4 ohms. Either of these should work fine and will be more accurate for tc because of their higher res than 24g however neither has as much surface area as 24g.

The next time I order Ti I'll get 26g to try out. It has a higher heat flux value than 24g without losing as much surface area as 28g. Might be a good compromise."

You know way back in this thread The Bloke had a list of the different wires with their actual measurements I would like to find a shiny one that is a true 26awg. The Crazy Wire is great and I notice that after some use like 2-3 tanks it gets better but it is not a true 26awg and does not make a tight fit on the STM between the screw and the wall in the rba deck the Unk does and makes it much easier because it doesn't slip out when you tighten the screw. I've never tried the Riogrande but I see the smallest it comes in is 24awg. Might try the Zivipf is it a true 26awg, I don't mind wiping a little graphite off.

I have been using 24awg since trying it, mainly as its just easier to work with

Got that from Crazy Wire too

Zivipf is dirty but I do recall it vaping better but that could just be crud under my STM screws that need an ultrasonic clean to make better contact

Have even had success using the CW 24awg in my K4's ... something that just would not stay stable with either Ni or Ti 26 even with the Steam Tuners upgrade and a gold spring

Coincidence ... dunno

Waiting on a couple of Aromamizers now and looking forward to dual twisted vertical coils for the first run :w00t:

Gonna have to stock up on wire again as have now got through some 5 reels of Ti :vapor:

I just received 105' of Ukmanen 26 ga Ti grade 1. Using a precision digital caliper I am reading .42 mm which is a little higher than what SE says 26 ga should be .405 mm.

For a reference:
25 ga - .455
26 ga - .405
27ga - .361

So the Ukmanen 26 ga Ti is a little over 96% accurate being slightly on the thicker side. I would think this is good enough for government work, no?

I wrote a lengthy post a few pages back about my troubles with titanium.

I had a decent 24g dual coil running last night measuring at .1 It was working ok but I was not getting any flavor, plenty of vapor but hardly any flavor with a metal undertone.

I decided to wrap a clapton 24g ti core wrapped in 30g KA. I get the same thing, plenty of vapor serious muted flavor, mostly cotton and metal undertone. I must be the only one struggling so bad with titanium, I don't know where else to turn. I think I am going to just stick with nickel as I get great flavor from that.

Is this a problem with my device settings? All I've done is download the csv from wire wizard and apply it to a profile on my dna 200.

Using unkamen, no noticeable hot spots, no burnt taste just cotton and metal.

Thanks!
