I spoke with Pedro about this a couple of weeks ago and resuming everything it comes down to:

Probably safe: shiny, yellow and blue

Probably a bad idea: grey and dull

There is always TiO2 present. The main difference is the adhesion strength to the base metal and APPARENTLY grey and dull layers come off rather easily as opposed to shiny, yellow and blue.

I actually was surprised when I read the above post quoting Pedro because the conversation was 90% equal to what I had with him two weeks ago

So, in other words, what Pedro said about titanium forming a protective oxide layer makes it, "officially", just like stainless and nickel which also form that same, thin, oxide layer. Titanium may, or may not, be more carcinogenic than nickel, but my laymen's gut feeling it is no more dangerous than nickel in that sense.

The only reason Ti oxide is marked as potentially dangerous is because of nano sized particles however everything else can have nano sized particles to some degree.

Read up about nickel oxide... Then you can start running away.

I rather suck on my Ti coils every day :)

Nickel can be absorbed into the body in a systemic way and is considered to be very toxic in that sense. Titanium dioxide is a virtually inert substance that can be toxic to the lungs if inhaled in large quantities over an extended period similar to asbestos or fiberglass.

Titanium implants/screws/nails etc. are commonly used in orthopedic applications to fasten fractures etc. and the body is in intimate contact with the titanium dioxide on the surface of the titanium. No incidence of cancer etc. has ever been documented from this contact as far as I know.

Breathing even inert particles in a certain size range is a NO-NO for health.

That's my understanding of the situation.

Guys need some advice.. 28g Ti 3/4 wraps spaced coil got 0.3ohms. Set to 290 F on the VS at 16w. Very weak vape. Keeps getting temp protect .. Switch to sxm same temp setting at 16j, much stronger vape, but after a few draw I get hot spots..

Am I missing something?

Oh to add, using Charlie noble juice. Liquid seems to be high VG, very 'thick'..

Set the SX Mini to 270°F and any DNA 40 to about 350°F - experiment in that range.

The experience of @tchavei and @Rossum have shown that the DNA 40 requires a higher temperature setting than Yihi and most other devices - quite likely because of its fixed pre-heat.

I just got my first installed DNA 40 this morning and I will be temp testing it thoroughly tonight to hopefully come up with more general advice.

thanx guys.. one more.. if I get hot spots can I play around the wire a bit to make it go away? or am I just better off making a new coil?
You can pulse it at super low power, according to Pedro whatshisface some bluing of the wire is fine as long as the wire is still shiny you probably won't die.
