I would recommend:

Ti Gr1 (if possible annealed) from a reputable vendor like stealthvape in the UK or Zivipf in Germany. I also heard good things from Vendors like Rio Grande (is that the correct name?). Beware that there is at least one vendor selling "magic" Ti enchanted and forged in the deep lava crates of Mordor especially for Vapers. It's grade 2 Ti. You don't want that. Well, you can vape it no problem but paying high money just because it was forged using magic spells doesn't make much sense when the base material is cheaper and less pure than any Ti gr1 out there.

Regarding sizes, it depends on your vaping and building habits. I use 26 gauge and 24 gauge. I also have 28 gauge which I pretty much don't use but it works. My experience has told me that thicker is robuster and can last a long time. I once had a 24 gauge coil lasting 5 months and I only changed it because I wanted to try something different. Thinner wires tend to deform when you wick them tight (with rayon for example) or when you're cleaning them.

Good luck and welcome to the dark side :)

I had a roll of 28gauge Ti gr1 from zivipf I wasn't using, so I twisted 2 x 2meter strands of it together in the drill, it's now my go to for Ti coils.
I'm very happy with it, and have had a 0.2 Ω coil in my aeronaut rda since Feb, and only changed the rayon wick once in that time.
Titanium coils last months, one of the best things about it, along with the neutral taste.
It's all I use, and has been for 10 months, I tried various gauges of SS, but went back to Ti, it works for me.

You surely must be a good person. Only the pure of heart are blessed with the privilege of vaping on pure Ti gr1. The rest must live with alloys[emoji14]:D :) ;)

I personally recommend SSV Ti wire, its a wire thats actually made for vaping. Try to use the 0.5mm wire to start. And of course ensure you're in TC mode or use the appropriate files for eScribe if you're using a DNA200. There's a large community that uses this wire and the maker and owner of SSV can tell you everything about it. Give them a look on FB or on their website. Sweet Spot Vapors.
"Made for vaping" LOL.

Hu, hu, hu Sweet Spot Vapor wire took whole Russ show.
So what you think?? I would love those that said its only hype and fraud to reply after listen show. It seems owner of SSV convinced Rusell and metallurgy tester Jeremy that his price is legit. The most interesting thing is other part of show which also include some Ni200 talking and how Ni200 coil lose weight after each use which is not good news.

I listened to that show too :) It did the company good for him to come out and describe their product. Good for them that they are trying to bring better products in the industry. I can't find their wire data sheet to see the composition tough. In Europe we have a source for 99.8% pure titanium (H 0,002; C 0,02; O 0,08; N 0,01; Fe 0,05) annealed, ASTM B863 standard for close to half their price. I personally don't see how I would want any other specifications than that for a titanium vaping wire like elongation, yield, elasticity etc. So for me their wire would still be over priced unless it's 100% titanium. I would buy such a wire though, if it was for sale in Europe :)

Edit: Went to Russ's replay notes and found the file submitted by SSV as documentation for their wire. Here it is for anyone interested. SSV Production Report 4-27-2016

Short but sweet.....some political candidates ignore the truth and the public rewards them....likewise some vapers ignore the truth and reward the lies of vendors. Fools are everywhere and it's easy to sign up to be part of their legions.

Just curious if more experienced users have any tips for wrapping ti coils perhaps?

I've only been building for less then two months and twisted titanium coils of g1 28g are all I use. I might try a slightly thinner wire some time but otherwise I am very happy with the performance & taste so I'm likely to stick with these for the foreseeable future.

But the wire is very springy to wrap and often the coils turn out a little larger then the size I wrap them too. Just wondering if there's a way to stop that from happening.

I twist my wire with a vice and drill & then I wrap the coil around a stepped mandrel with the wire still in the vice under as much tension I can put on it without unwrapping my coil.

I've tried one of those coil-master coil jigs too but that just made a mess of it which led me to think that those weren't made with ti in mind. But perhaps I'm just doing it wrong, idk.

If there were any trick, it would be knowing that you may loose 1-2 wraps and gain ~0.5MM+ in ID when you let go of the wrapping tension.

I use Silica rope for wick so I size the rope for the ID of the juice channels and then size the ID of my coil for the OD of the rope. Typically for 3mm I'll wrap on a <=2.5MM mandrel to account for expansion.

For spaced coils machine screws or wrapping by hand works well.

i've been using a coil master jig on ti and it works pretty good on single strand 26 and 24g wire. you may want to try those if you can get them. i tried a twisted ti coil at 26g once, with the juice i was using it gunked up real quick.

You didn't mention the brand Ti you are using? I only wrap single strand wire, but use ANNEALED wire, it's softer, less spring to it. Some types are "half hard". You could experiment with what you have, by torching the wire first before wrapping, or do like I used to do before I found annealed wire, and that's to slow pulse heat the wire till barely glowing, on a mod. 24 and 26 gauge Temco brand titanium wire was not springy, but I just used their 28 gauge on a 3mm rod, and it did expand a little off the rod, so thicker wire seems to hold its original diameter better.

To anneal wire on a TCR ADJUSTABLE mod I use these instructions for,
    DRY BURNING TITANIUM G1:

    Posted by ECF member "Balazsk":

"Program a curve with a TCR of 0.007. (0.00725 slightly hotter) and set the temperature to 572f/300c and assign it to an unused profile on the dna 200. Start at 10 watts, adjust higher if needed.

Max temperature will be limited to 1112f/600c (real) and you can pulse whatever you want and the coil will never be overheated to the point of forming TiO2... Gunk will fall off just like with a normal dry burn."

It's added work, to anneal and remove springyness, a step I can avoid when I use the thicker gauges.

To take the springiness out of the wire I quickly run it through a low pressure gas flame.
At about 2 seconds per foot of wire. Until the wire starts to turn yellow, blue.
It seems to be enough to remove much of the spring.
I twist the strands tightly together in the drill after that.
I use enough to make about 3ft of twisted wire, and can use a 3mm I.D coil winder, as much of the spring is gone.

Search for click, bang! Mac. It is an audio podcast

Search where, here on ECF, on YouTube, on Google, for what, Russ, SuperX, podcasts? I usually post a link when I'm trying to help someone, maybe a reason I have more "likes", then I have "posts". Anyone else?
