From what I remember when I was into it, its a very low Tar tobacco that's dipped in molasses and flavorings. Don't know much else about the actual quality of the tobacco or additives. Try it on a heating element that's replace-able or not important to you first just in case you get a bunch of residual sugars! And let us know, I have a bunch of hookah tobacco lying around.

I got a lot of cotton for wicks so I don't mind gooping up an Atty anymore

I picked up some Double Apple hookah tobacco today. I know absolutely nothing about hookahs and this was the first time I had ever seen hookah tobacco. Anyway, it's been heated and is now marinating. It smells really good.

I tried my extract straight. Lots of flavor but I'm not really crazy about the flavor. I'm going to let it steep a few weeks before I try it again.

What does it taste like bluegrass?

It tastes just like it smells. The flavor was double apple but it really doesn't taste like apple to me. Definitely on the sweet side. It has a slight perfumy aftertaste. I think a little steeping will do it some good.

Interesting that it has a per-fumy taste. I have often got that taste from store bought joose and thought it was a additive they put in. Maybe it's from the flavoring?

@Cyrus Vap, Did you get that per-fumy taste from the tobacco joose you made?

not at all actually. The worst one I made was very 'tea' like, I don't know how else to say it.

the best one was so rich and pipe like that it was honestly too much lol. This was a pipe tobacco, I'm going to attempt it again but far less concentrated and less heat to see if I can calm it down. EM did wonders in it though, but I got sick of the cotton candy thing and I went overboard.

the cigar came the closest to 'authentic' IMO but the problem is I don't really care for cigar :) It was very dry and smoky, flat, like a cigar IMO.

middle eastern desserts/foods etc tend to use very syrupy perfumey type sweeteners (think rosewater, jasmine water, pomegranate concentrates, etc).

So I have no idea what goes into that molasses stew that they dip shisha tobacco into, but I'd not be surprised to find out there's some aromatic stuff in the mix

Of all the tobacco I used to smoke (cigs, cigars and pipes), the pipe is the one thing I sorely miss. Definitely going to have to give this a whirl soonish.

I guess the most difficult question I have is which of my old standbys (Standbies? Standbys looks wrong. So does standbies. Standbyes?) to try first...

Thank you to the OP for sharing this!

Edit: Actually, I do have a question. What about disposal of the used tobacco? Would it be compostable, do you think?

I have about 3/4 gallon of PG left, so I tried PG extraction. Boiled and steeped per this thread's instructions, and the TE has a nauseating musty flavor. I'm going to buy an additional quantity of glycerine to compare, but PG extraction was nasty!

As an aside, with insane South Dakota State law regarding tobacco, loose cigarette tobacco is taxed at the same rate as tailor-made cigarettes. The local tobacco shop sells 12 ounce minimum bags, but with the tax that's close to $60 since the PTB consider that 12 ounces the equivalent of about a carton of cigarettes. 16 ounces of pipe tobacco, OTOH, sells for $14. If glycerine extraction creates flavorful extract, I'll also try a few cigars.
Buying online there are ways around the high taxes.

This company is ingenuous, they are selling the complete leaf. So you have to shred it.They even sell tobacco Shredders for $27.00.
Since it's not a finished product they can sell it as Cigarette Tobacco and avoid the tax. For our purposes probably
wouldn't matter if it came shredded or not. I think dried leaves are pretty easy to crush.?
TOBACCO
I'm really intrigued by their Sampler Pack.

I called the company below and confirmed that they are selling this as Pipe Tobacco but it's actually the equivalent of Cigarette Tobacco..
They recommend there NCS Brand and if you want organic than Kentucky Select is a good choice.

It turns out that the new federal taxes on loose cigarette tobacco that went from .97 to $27.95 per Pound doesn't apply to Pipe Tobacco
so lo and behold everyone has stopped making cigarette tobacco and is making Pipe tobacco. How coincidental. (Irony)

I'm deciding to venture into the DYI ejuce arena, thinking I'd have to settle for bakery or candy flavors, or the handfull of TPA or similar tobacco flavors. Then I find this thread! I've got a bunch of opened pipe tobacco tins that I thought would be wasted. (and a fair number of unopened tins as well)

I'd like to know how the Frog Morton turns out (have at least 1 unopened tin of that around somewhere). Royal Yak anyone?

Great thread by the way.
Has anyone tried rolling tobacco. I bought a pouch of my brand :Winneifield Gold the day before my first e-cig kit arrived (seven weeks and no analogues !)and although it is opened it still smells pretty fresh.
Tried all the RY4s and alike and I'm just not getting any noticeable or pleasant tobacco notes.
The Champion Mix tasted like bitumen with perfume and USA MAGIC (MARLBOROUGH RED don't you know!) just bitumen.
I am excited I might be able to use my rolling tobacco, so am off to wrap it up in cling film, & I have a trip to the health store and supermarket planned for VG,Coffee filters and Mini Saucepans.
Any Thoughts? :rickroll:

Well tried this:
Tobacco extraction
40ml PG
40ml Vg
20ml boiled water
30m/ 1/8th cup loosely packed lightly chopped rolling tobacco

Stove in 4 o'clock position 15mins to gentle simmer then turn off stove and let cool for 15 mind in hob..
Filter through coffee filter into glass jar..

Result: not sure yet, very thick very dark and like Cyrus said a bit like tea.
Not smokey at all , vaped a little in the DID. Kinda like Nauseating:( but may improve with age.

I think you cooked it too long, and started to get vegetable compounds coming out. It might mellow with age, but this is why I did hot and fast with VG, not slow with thinner liquids, like PG and water. I didn't want to cook the tobacco, just quickly get some flavors out.

@Kurt: Do you think one could use VG with nicotine in it? Do you think PG at room temp rather than heated might work? (those are my currently available choices) (room temp pg has worked well with coffee, tea and cocoa for me...)

And thanks for that info on the vapor content of heated VG - let me know that those 'just water vapor' claims were not the nonsense they sounded like. Great to have an educated chemist telling us what's real.

I'm not sure I would use a VG-nic to make a TE, especially if it is thinned. My PTE would be a bit strong to vape straight. Better to use as a flavor. You would also be heating the nic and then letting it sit for a while, which would probably oxidize some of it. But then nic is pretty cheap, so no hard in experimenting. I only use mine at 10-20% in a juice. And some batchees are stronger than others.

The coffee idea is good. Will have to try to make a VG coffee essence. I have some Bosnian coffees meant for a briki, so that could be fun.

Please do NOT heat anything with nic in it. Warming a mixed bottle in hot water is one thing, heating a pan of it is another completely and can release an unhealthy amount of nic vapor.

Don't ask how I know...

Good point! In addition to the nic oxidation that will likely occur. Nic is very volatile and O2-reactive!
