What IS the infatuation with "Massive Clouds" of "vapor"?? Is it necessary for enjoyment or a fad?

I use rebuildables to prolong my ability to vape should FDA fubar hit. That is why I go the rebuildable route period the end done.

I do find I need a certain level of vapor production to satisfy my addiction to the ACT of smoking (inhaling and exhaling smoke/vapor). Once I have that anything more is unnecessary.

I build 1.2-1.8 ohm micro coils and wick with cotton. I get more than enough vapor to satisfy my needs. I do not chase clouds.

WOW! You really feel important! It was a QUESTION - out of curiosity. A question! Something about which I was seeking an answer. That's all. If it bothers Ya THAT much ....... speed away and don't READ it; the topic is obvious.

Fortunately - others had an opinion - not just a need to gripe. You do this a lot don't Ya?

Senile Old Man Don ........... Did I step on the "stars" toes?

Actually, none of my posts were ever directed at you. I was responding to the thread in general. I suppose you could have taken my comments as an insult but they were not directed at anyone, unless I quoted them.

I do not consider myself elite, as you so pointedly called me. Nor do I feel my opinions are gospel. I just thought we were all here to voice opinions and have debates. Seems I touched a nerve. Have a good evening and enjoy your vape.

I think that's a lot easier to say with something like climbing, where there's no realistic chance of it being banned / regulated into non-existence.

I don't think there's any realistic chance of vaping being banned - it's simply too large a public health prize.

But the path to it being accepted will probably be beset with many little local bans being instated and overturned.

Until such time, I think we have a responsibility to avoid undue negative attention, and battery safety is part of that.

Personally, I'd support trade associations that throw people out if they set new users up with devices which are unsafe for them. Of course that costs money, and unless vapers are going to pay extra for it it won't happen.

I see what's happening with vaping to be similar to any activity that we've seen as "subculture", as it moves into the mainstream. It brings to mind something that happened when I was a teenager with skate-boarding. It was pretty underground, radical, and attracted a certain kind of person. Pretty soon there were bans on skateboarding all over the place--"save the kids", you're distracting shoppers, placing people in danger, etc.

Now it's no big deal, there's even a blase attitude towards skating. Skate parks everywhere, blah blah.

I understand your point regarding being respectful with clouds, and the community at large being more responsible about standards and safety, but what people choose to do really is no one's business but their own, IMHO. Even if it's stupid or unsafe.

'cloud chasing' is a fad. I don't know of a single person that doesn't like a decent amount of vapor...and I would totally support sub ohm/cloud chasers if it was a bit more safe. I just can't really see how pushing batteries as far as they can go is fun. The whole point of vaping is to stay off of cigarettes and I feel like people forget that small little tidbit. But if that is what keeps them away from cigarettes...who am I to tell them to what to do, right?

I only said I had more important things to worry about than why vapers do what they do, not to answer a legit question. Maybe reread my post?

These types of questions concern me because it seems that, as shown by this thread, a subsection of vapers are being called out as potentially causing problems and some folks think they should change their behavior. Every vaper on the planet is causing problems right now. Vaping has not been universally accepted and I do not the cloud chasers causing any more of an issue than those that are new and assume, since it isn't smoking, that they are free to vape anywhere they damn well please. Those are the real cause of the problem. They show a lack of respect and are the focus of the arguments against vaping in public.

Much better. And a point well taken. That was easy.... and appreciated too.

But it's the cloud-chasing phenomenon that this business practice is rooted in.

    Take another example: climbing Everest.

There's a huge problem in the climbing industry of people being led up there because they're willing to pay, regardless of whether they're ready. Many of them die, or are permanently injured.

Is the problem the climbing industry being unscrupulous, or the daredevil / explorer mentality that leads people to want to conquer Everest when they should probably be sticking to Snowdon?

You can't have the former without the latter, and it's legitimate to discuss both.

McKinley convinced me not to try Everest  (or was it the 10 days hunkered down in an ice cave)

While your question is fine, it seems like your also trying to make fun of them and that's pretty sad considering we are all in this together. I'll admit I'm always looking to increase my cloud, if it was about flavor then I would chew some gum but I like the throat hit and cloud just like when I smoked analogs. I would never like to see an advanced user try to force a newbie to use something they don't understand, and luckily I haven't seen that yet. Everytime I have seen a broadcast or a discussion there are always advance users telling newbies to start out slow and giving them warnings about advanced equipment. But to each his own and I will not judge them.

"Cloud Chasing" does indeed have an analog equivalent in the smoking world, however I don't see it correlating to cigarettes. Cigar smokers, Hookah smokers, and Pipe smokers have long commented on the amount of smoke they can produce off a particular stick or blend. It is often considered a boon if they can produce more of the thick, sticky, flavorful smoke they love. I believe this just carries over into the vape world naturally, since vaping tends to also concentrate on many of the "connoisseur" aspects that cigars, hookahs, and pipe tobacconists have enjoyed for many years that might seem unfamiliar or foreign to ex-cigarette smokers since many of these types of smokers smoked a single brand simply due to addiction, and didn't experiment with different blends and flavors.

Don, not arguing, but I'm just wondering is it the cloud chasers themselves that bother you, or the idea that you can't vape "properly" without blowing nuclear clouds (an idea that I happen to disagree with)?

Actually - the 'clouds' don't bother me ... they puzzle me. So much emphasis on them both of forums (even beyond this one) and in the Ya'' Tube Videos. They all seem to focus on "clouds" and then "function" be it good or bad. Immediate "modifications" to equipment only days after it is released (or readily available to the public). I've just not been able to grasp "why". I pass no judgement (well - actually I DO - but I need to protect the image I present) on the "big cloud" guys beyond that of not experiencing a gigantic improvement in "taste" when I do get a bigger "cloud". I only experienced the "bigger" when I moved to an alternative to the eGo-C battery. It wasn't worth the money (to me) because the new flavor wasn't worth the investment.

Hope I cleared up "what" I was seeking. I do get 'wordy' at times and clarity suffers.

This is exactly what I was thinking. To each their own. Live and let live. Nuff said!
What is the infatuation with worrying about what other vapers do with their time and money? Does it really bother people that there are cloud chasers out there enough to start a thread about it? Some people like a huge cloud, others are concerned with TH, others are concerned with flavor. I could ask the same question about people fascinated with TH. Why is that so important? Smoking gave a throat hit, but we started vaping to stop smoking, so why simulate it so closely?

To each their own. I have many more important things to concern myself with than why vapers choose to vape the way they do.

Make fun of them? No. not in the least. It was and is a genuine interest as to "why?". Well on second thought - I suppose I am making fun of them (the Ya'll Tube Video guys) in a way.:glare: Maybe I'm jealous. They make all these videos - "they" being the big-name guys folks often refer to when making a point. No names now - just "the big-name guys" who start off sayin' ........ "Whazzup?!" You know the guy I'm pretty sure. It's almost as if he's sayin' ............ "No big cloud? I can help! Watch my video and then take a gander at the web site below where YOU too can BUY this better-than-yours atomizer". I suppose that's OK --- but the REASON for that dadgummed "cloud" is just never explained.

OK and OK. Enough of "me". Nursie is here to administer my next dose of Vicodin8-o and I can't miss THAT or my bubbly personality will stop shining through. Just one last time ............ NOT "making fun" unless it's of myself. Pot shots at others ....... sometimes. Not now though.:) Really - not now.

    I bid you a doo-doo for now. It's been a pleasure.

Ok I got to admit I did use the cloud thing once. I don't generally blow out clouds but a friend of the family who is a smoker was giving me grief about how vaping can't be as satisfying. He then proceeded to take a big drag and blow it out saying when you can do that I will shut up. I smiled an evil smile took a long puff on my e-cig and blew his puny cloud away. I don't know if the cloud was satisfying in itself but the look on his face was.

ok I have to admit I can relate to this.

THe only vape supply shop here is one small section of a counter in the local tatoo prlor/head shop. Mostly ego + CE stuff. I have to admit that I got a seriously funny look when my little old lady self walked in there to see what they had one day. After the staff talking down to me and generally treating me like an idiot I pulled out my REO Grand with a 1.2 ohm micro coil on it and blew a huge cloud. The looks on their faces as I walked out was most gratifying.

Senile Old Man Don .............. am I in trouble?

I can understand that - and no, you're not in trouble - although your avatar seems to confuse my pug, lol.

From my point of view only (and I'm an "almost" old man, lol) I feel that the "cloud" shouldn't be the target, just a by-product.

Like I posted earlier, I play around with a lot of different coil and wick configurations because I'm looking for how it changes the experience for me. Clouds don't do anything for me, and I've done some big clouds that were a big white puff of nothing.

I like to enjoy the flavor of the vape. If it looks great and tastes blah, I try something else. And it's not so much that I'm looking for the "perfect" vape, it's just that I like tinkering. I haven't really sat down with a hobby in a very long time, and vaping has allowed me to quit smoking AND develop a hobby that interests me.

It's certainly legitimate to discuss anything ;). I don't know anything about the process involved in attempting to climb Everest so I don't have an opinion about weather climbers should be evaluated better. I would assume the people who want to climb Everest are reasonably experienced mountain climbers and should know the risks. In this case if they feel like taking the risk and die, well, it was their choice. This will not cause me to think that mountain climbing, or climbing Everest is a bad thing.

Back to vaping, the problem is when vape shops set up newbies with gear that's dangerous or needs training to use safely and they don't provide it. These customers have no experience with vaping and should expect not to be sold hardware that's dangerous for them to use, even if they ask for it. Sure if there were no videos out there showing huge clouds people would not be looking for it, but it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about it. But there is no reason for big-cloud vaping to be dangerous. That is totally on the shops that sell dangerous gear to unsuspecting people. That's why I feel this problem is rooted in bad business practices, not cloud chasing.

I guess personally I don't have a strong opinion on the big cloud thing. I vape for nicotine so the people who say they like the big cloud vapes because they don't need to vape nicotine & still they get their fix, they don't make sense to me. If I didn't want nicotine any longer I would not vape. Simple as that. (no judgement & no explanation for why you do it needed; just saying it doesn't make sense for my vaping needs).

HST, it does scare me a bit for newer vapers to be so infatuated with it. I was on a new member thread the other day & some guy was talking about how he put some super low ohm coil on his Vamo & fried it. He didn't check the ohms on the thing or anything. Just fired it up & fried his device. And some how that was a "funny" thing. To me it wasn't funny at all though because he could have done more than just fry his device if he'd have done that on a mech without the proper batteries or something. Clearly he wasn't experienced or responsible enough to be sub ohming. It does make me nervous.

But I do love the business of blowing a big cloud with other smokers & having them see that & be like, oh I didn't know it did THAT. When they think you're just being a silly fake smoker that gives them something else to think about lol.
