Maybe not rude, but definitely unthinking. The way people freak out these days about hand washing and sanitary gel and H1N1, it really is a surprise they put someone else's mouth-thing into their own mouth. I read on another thread one person who carries alcohol wipes with him so he can give the cart a rub before letting others try. But you didn't know it was going straight into his mouth.

Well from some of the responses maybe Im just overreacting. Cost of parts/ejuice/battery is not what I was concerned about.

I also failed to mention that after he and his friend hit it others were coming up and he was offereing it to them. I couldnt stop the first offer but I stopped the second.

I think maybe I just didnt like the kid.

He asked to check it out, not to use it.

I fully agree with you.

Also, I think from the standpoint of the "smoker" lettin someone bum a smoke is no big deal... But "vapers" Don't puff on something worth less than a buck... it's our nifty little gadget.
So I don't think you were wrong to find it rude.. but maybe he didn't think of it like that cause he's a "smoker" ;)
Just my two cents for what it's worth...

vaping outside of work the other day. We have a designated smoking area and although I could Vape inside - I dont want to deal with the HR hassle and besides, it gets me away from my desk.

... anyway, Im Vaping on my break outside when a couple of co-workers, who I know work for the company but I do not know personally, ask me what Im smoking.

THe one kid says, "thats one of those electronic cigarettes?" I said yes and he asked some questions about it, which I politely answered. Then a friend of mine came up to our little group and started talking to me.
Well the kid who asked me about my e-cig asked if he could "check it out" so I said sure and let him hold it.

Now I thought he would examine it, maybe play with the button and stuff so I turned my attention to my friend who was talking, when I turn back the two who had came over to ask about my e-cig were both puffing on it. I took it back from them, put it in my pocket and went inside... my break was now over.

Now back in the day I passed a joint or two around and even shared cigarettes with people. But nowadays its not something I do. After being in the workforce for 20+ years I have learned something about people. Some, even many, do not practice good hygenine.

Anyway I was ......, I didnt tell them they could puff on it and perhaps I shouldnt have let them "check it out" without specifying what they could do with it.

Anyone else think this was rude? or was it my own fault for letting them hold it in the first place?[/QUOTE

You did the smart thing.

Someone needs to invent a PV mouthpiece condom. LOL Everyone always wants to try it out (can't blame them!!).

Yeah, there was a time that nobody thought about passing around something smokable... now there are too many cooties out there (and some will stay with you forever like herpes).

They do make them actually. We keep sample e-cigs in the store for our customers to try them and have a bag of the condoms to use so we can toss them after each use rather than wasting a full cartridge each time.

I have to agree that it's just not on. I have a family member who comes to visit and he has never even smoked. My wife and I have our computers on one long desk and have our pasthroughs and charging gear there along with normally 4 or so other e-sigs set up with different flavors so we can pick and choose as we work. We've taken to hiding them when there is a visit expected because this person thinks nothing of going along the desk picking up and puffing on each one. This is often accompanied by a lot of additional saliva and YUCK!!!! Don't do that man!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-o

Wow, lol. You have more patience than I, that would be one person that would not be allowed back in my house. I have a buddy that uses like 10x what a normal person uses for hand chalk ( I have a pool table). It makes my table look like the local freakin shoddy pool hall. So I removed the handchalk altogether and bought sir joseph gloves, he did not like that, o well, play somewhere else then.

Oh you arent being rude at all. I guess I wasnt thinking when I gave it to him to "check out" I felt like I was showing him something. Guess I forgot what it really was for a second. I think about anything else that is "consumed"... if someone were asked to check it out I would have to assume they are going to "consume" it as well.

Like if you are holding an imported beer that comes in a cool bottle...and someone said.. can I check that out?... would you expect them to take a drink or just examine the bottle?

Well personally ya i think it was, not rude but maybe more inapropriate.
I have been asked to check it out and out of bout 5-10 people none have sucked on it. Some we're smokers some were not.

Basically though it's human nature to discover new things using as many of our senses as possible just like most animals.

If i give you something you've never seen before and you cannot ask me what it is, first reflex is to manipulate it, look at it, smell it then shake it and listen to it and eventually if you we're an animal you'd taste it. I wont go into too much details but a crude exemple would be a dog and a lady dog...errrm get the picture...anyways.

So point is, it's inapropriate to ask a stranger to lend you something and then go and lick/taste it without asking it IS in our oldest instinct to explore new things with as many of our senses as possible...it's just that most of us civilised people gave up on the tasting part since society dictates that its impolite to do so without asking :)

Well, sorry, but in my opinion, it WAS rude. Period. I've had many 'odd looks', and many people asking about the e-cig (here in Portugal, it is somewhat new yet...), and when people ask to SEE it, that's what they will do. Sometimes, they will ask permission to unscrew the battery, to take a better look... if they want to TRY it, they will ASK to. That's when I'll say, 'sure, I even got a spare mouthpiece right here...' (Or sometimes, if I see the person is really interested, I will say 'would you like to try it? I have a spare right here...' People will readily understand that it is not only in my interest, but in theirs as well - sometimes I get sick too! In at least one occasion, I remember I had the flu... so, NEVER has anyone started to suck on my e-cig WITHOUT asking first. Much less, passing the e-cig along his bunch of buddies... as for the 'beer example' above, that has happened to me too with a new imported brand. Someone asked to see it, and that's what he did (mental note of the brand, where is it from, how much alchool in it...) Then, he asked if he could try it... and asked the bartendender for a clean glass; he surely did not drink from the bottle! And he did not pass it along to his friends ( It's your beer, wich cost your money... will there be any left, if everybody tries it?? ) All in all, I think it all comes down to a little politeness and common sense... but that's just my two cents' worth...

I think it was rude not to ask you. After all you spent the money on it and I agree that some people can be disgusting and having to throw the cart away especially in these times were money isn't exactly growing on trees, was rude on his part I believe.
I also think maybe he should have only tried it once...I don't know about you but when I was an analog smoker I didn't "bum" cigarettes to everyone either. I think you were more upset that he didn't ask you.

He was rude. You -should have- taken it back and said "Did you like kissing me? Because that was in my mouth before yours. Hope you don't get the flu." But seriously, next time tell them they can take a drag if they pay for the new cart. Or..."since I don't know you that well, you can hold this and look at it while I look at your $100 bill".

I would never let anyone hit my PV, unless I was comfortable kissing them on the mouth as well. That's just gross. And, as far as cartos only "costing pennies" ... they're normally close to a couple dollars apiece. Again, I wouldn't mind giving a carto to a close friend, but I'm not handing them out to virtual strangers. If they want to buy one, and I have an extra on hand, I could go along with that.

I wouldn't hand the PV to them to start with. I've had people inquire about mine and let them look, while I held it in my hand. Even that makes me a bit uneasy if they get too close.
