Im just curious why you started vaping?

I for one, personally LOVED smoking. Sadly I have admit, I smoked for over 15 years. It was to be cool when i was a kid, it was a stress relief as I got older, and when I worked, it was a great excuse to get the hell away from my desk and co-workers who were driving me up the wall!

Then I had my kids. I actually WANTED to quit smoking, because I wanted to stick around and watch my kids grow up - and I didn't want them to start smoking someday themselves.
But STILL it was so hard to quit. I missed the deep breath of that drag.....the hand to mouth motion....that big sigh as I exhaled, and blew my smoke out.

But every single day, I would look at those beautiful faces. The ones I created. The ones I loved more that I ever thought I could love anything in the whole wide world.
Then the years of smoking, and age started catching up with me. I was coughing. I exercise like I wanted to. I would wake up wheezing. And then the prices of cigs kept going up and up and up.

I tried the other e-cigs that you paid an arm and a leg for at the mall - that didnt work. But then my husband (a 1 1/2 - 2 pack a day smoker) started vaping, and didnt touch a cig. I was impressed.

And again, my kids. My health. Thats why I started vaping. Best thing I did for ME in 2012. (And if you're a mom or even a parent...you know that if something benefits YOU - it benefits your kids/family also)

I loved smoking too, just as you wrote. But it was smelly, expensive and I realised that it causes a lot of diseases...
I don't have kids yet.
I bought ecig and some fine flavoured liqudis and I thought: What an experience!! It is not smelly nor expensive so much. After long weeks & months I noticed that I am happier, healthy, etc.

It is nice to read such success, thanks for posting and vape on :)

I started vaping near the end for my 4th day off cigarettes. I was using nicotine patches but was ready to go buy a packet of smokes. I drove to a corner store and bought the only ecig they had. I had been a heavy smoker, smoking 40-50 a day, and I had smoked for over 30 years. The ecig worked - I had somehow known that it would. It was just as well because I had a sensitivity to the nicotine patches and had to stop using them.
The ecig was very small and I had to recharge it after about 30 mins.
I bought some better but pricey ecigs and vaped those for a while. Tired of paying through the nose, I did some research and bought some Volts. Those were great and affordable.
My health had been affected by smoking, and after 8 months of not smoking I can breathe easier, feel better, can taste and smell flavors - and there's no smell of stale cigarettes in the house, car, or on my clothes.
I took up vaping in desperation to stay of cigs - and it worked.

I'm getting older and getting ready to settle down so I decided before getting the whole family thing going that quitting smoking was a big priority. As was said above, wanting to be around to see my future children grow up, graduate, get married, become a grandfather. Also didn't want them at some point to go ewww what's that smell or can I have one.

Then there's always my own health for me to consider. After 18 years of smoking I'm sure I've done my lungs and/or heart no favors. I already have heart disease as a family concern and my B.P. has always run on the higher side of things.

So for me, 2002, has been a HIGHLY productive year for my health. Quit the cigs and quit the caffeinated pop totally while cutting back my caffeine intake.

The haven't had a cigarette part isn't as impressive since it's only been 5 1/2 days but the caffeinated pop has been since back in February. Knowing I could quit the Pepsi coming into this made me fully realize I can quit the cigs.

Because I want to live as long as possible.

After thirty-five years of smoking a pack and a half a day and many failed attempts at quitting I had to try something new. I tried nicotine gum without success. Never tried the patch.

Luckily, I used low tar cigarettes for most of those years (Camel Lights, now known as Camel Blues). I have no COPD. That's good, because COPD is not reversible.

November 2011. I bought an E-Power 14650 and enough spare parts for two more complete units. I spent a lot of hours reading ECF posts before deciding on the equipment. For the initial expense of $150 I had 2 complete back-up units and variety of cartomizers and juices to try out.

I spent the next five months smoking and vaping, gradually replacing each of the thirty cigarettes I smoked each day by vaping. Seven months ago I quit smoking entirely and continued nicotine with vaping.

Now I DIY my juice and vape a little more than two ml per day. I'm still using the E-Power 14650 and all of the replacement parts are still brand new and wrapped up in the vaping cupboard.

Maintenance cost for vaping is now about $20 per month. I used to spend over $250 a month to smoke.

Emphysema? That's one stage past COPD. Emphysema is a progressive disease. Once you have it, it gets worse: eating up your lungs until you die whether you quit smoking or not. Tell me about it. If you want to die suffocating under an oxygen mask then smoke until you get emphysema. My mom did.

Nothing I've tried to stop smoking worked for me, but then i bought myself an eGo Twist with some stardusts.
I have run out of battery when I've been out on the pub two times and had to buy cigarettes..
The thing is that cigarettes really tastes like dirty rags after I've started vaping, so i don't ever want to go back.
What I've learned from running out of power: Always bring backup! :)

Puely as an alternative to smokin. Vapin's a lot cooler. I love the novelty of the synthetic modern gadget. Gadgets are just so tactile aren't they. Which kind of keeps you interested. There's a future for the synthetic in my life because there is always going to be something new out there to try. I'm always waiting for the next best thing. There is an excitment surrounding the synthetic. Plenty of various different new components to get your hands on. If your willing to spend a little extra the phrase " more money means more power" comes to mind...hehe.

Just buy some ****. It's a lot more powerful and it won't kill you (at least, until the studies come in).

When I tried vaping for the first time in 08 I did it because -vaping was cool. :)
I am a bit of a tech junkie and vaping just appealed to me. This was "the future". Vaping was sci-fi in the palm of my hand. :)

But when it did not quite work as well as it needed to for my budget at the time I quit. I came back to vaping for my health. Honestly though, vaping is not completely smooth sailing. Cigarettes are much easier and after 30+ years of smoking its hard to give up the mindlessness of smoking.

But that sci-fi appeal keeps me here. If Gene Roddenberry had envisioned vaping back when he wrote star trek it would have been part of the show. :) And I just bet a viable e cig would have made it to market much sooner as a result. :)

When you have to stop at the top of a flight of stairs to breath, you have a problem.

Vaping is a huge money saver, unless you become a mod collector.

I figure that a smoker is going to blow $2k/year minimum. If you live in NY and smoke 2packs/day, multiply that times four.
The most expensive mod out there is $300. If you buy a bunch of cheap junk before the good mod, add $200.
A year's worth of DIY juice is maybe $400 tops.
Then add about $200/year for heads.

My motivations are far less pure and far more simple than many of you. I have been a smoker for better than half of my life now, when I started a pack of Marlboro Reds was 1.65 a pack or 2 dollars if you got them out of the machine at the grainery behind my house (Yes, I lived in corn country USA). Since the day I first lit up a cigarette in the woods behind my house I have probably lost more lighters than the average person buys, and probably misplaced more packs of cigarettes than some people have ever smoked.

For 15 years I was a 2 pack a day smoker, 2.5-3 packs depending on how many i bummed out, broke, lost and later in my life how much time I spent at the sports bar. ;) Regardless.. it isn't for health reasons, it isn't because I have children on the way... Today.. at 6.50 a pack for my brand of choice and 2 dollars every other day for a lighter I was spending close to 500 a month to support a silly little habit that I was actually rather fond of. I can afford it, but it irks me to no end.. that and because I have always smoked at the computer I simply got tired of cleaning ash out of my motherboard and fan filters. xD It's all gravy though, I thoroughly enjoy vaping more than I ever did smoking. I enjoy fiddling with the equipment and playing mad scientist with my juices and I enjoy being able to lift weights like Im 20 again without having overbearing doms the next day.

All in all, I wouldn't switch back for the world!

My reasons were similar to off topic's:
- climbing stairs or running a few meters to catch the bus taking my breath away
- the costs of 1 or more packs of cigaretes a day
meanwhile I also apreciate
- that my sense of taste and smell have come back and keep getting better,
- my hands and clothes not smelling like ashtray anymore
- and the fun I have exploring the world of mods and reconstructable atties

Even if it "should" be a health consideration on top of the list, there's my motivations lisiting

1 - Get rid of the bad smell in my home
2 - Save money, but right now, since I'm starting, I spend a lot on different devices, accessories and e-juice
3 - Stop smoking to extend my days on earth
4 - Find something to replace smoking, which I was enjoying

Let's vape baby

Well for health reasons first...after 28 years of smoking 2 packs a day I desperately needed to quit. I have failed at quitting many times and I made a deal with my oldest son that was very important to me.
My oldest son is a combat medic in the Army and he was deployed to Afghanistan in the beginning of the year. Very emotional time. Well I made him a deal....he comes home safe and I promise to quit smoking when his feet hit US soil. (He has fought with me to quit his whole life).
He came home and it was very important to me that I not fail this time...my last resort was this. I tried it, and thankfully haven't had a cigarette for 4 weeks as of today!
Just ordered my first upgrade from a blu to an ego...this could become an extremely fun hobby! And I know without a doubt that I will never smoke another analog again!
