it might sound shallow....but women. I've been thinking about trying to quit analogs for several years, but just couldn't get up the motivation to deal with the stress of withdrawals. Plus, I have a very public job so I was worried that I would end up ripping someone's head off due to my crabby mood.

Then I started hitting the dating sites and saw profile after profile that said "No Smokers." I'll be damned if that is what is going to stand in my way of finding someone good, so finally decided I needed to do something. So that's what prompted me to start investigating options and experimenting with the disposable e-cigs. When I realized how well they were working for me, I knew I had found my solution.

Whatever the ultimate motivation, I'm thrilled that I finally found the way.

My girlfriend at first said she didn't mind my smoking she just thought i smoked too much ( most was 2 packs a day) and she thought going outside for 5 minutes shouldn't mean I can smoke 5 cigarettes LOL.
I actually had extremely bad asthma when i was younger ( left lung shut down completely 100% and my right lung was at 10%) and one day I just thought that me smoking this much at 18 when all that happened at like age 10 was pretty...well pretty stupid to put it nicely.

My biggest reason, to be honest, was the fact that these devices looked so cool to me. I'm a huge tech-guy and I love playing and learning about new technology I currently work as a Pc/LAN consultant and I just love learning about new stuff so I was like, hm a 2-fer well what the heck why not.

So here I am, still learning as I hope i continue to learn new stuff for the rest of my time here on earth- still hunting for my everday vape flavor!

The reason I started was because my doctor strongly recommended it. I had tried to quit previously (several times) and had tried the gum (gross), the patch (yielded nothing), Chantrix (did a lot to me, namely depression but had ZERO impact on smoking), and I even tried GreenNicotine which was and is the absolute worst vaping option in the world. Finally my doctor recommended a local vaping store in Tucson, Arizona. I went in and bought my Jessy e-Cig kit which was about $80 overpriced but it worked and I haven't had a puff in over a year. I have since moved on and now use the Provari along with rebuildables and have an iHybrid Hellraiser in the works.

i quit because for more then 30 years i smoked about 2 packs a day, any my chest hurt, and even after gums and patched and other junk I still smoked, I would get out of bed and start chain smoking, till the point where my chest started to hurt.

even then I would just take smaller drags and i knew at my age the end is coming soon if i dont figure out how to stop and I was truly scared i was going to die and I thought about some peeps in my life and what it would do to them to learn I had a heart attack in my sleep and was gone..
started vaping about 8-9 months ago and never looked back. best thing to ever happen to me.

Great thread! I love reading all the replies.

For me, I can reiterate that it wasn't the monetary cost, but the health one. And smelling. And being around my grandchildren.

I've stopped before. Didn't stay stopped, obviously. Years ago I went cold turkey, things seemed pretty surreal and I was definitely not operating at 100%. I'm pretty stressed as it is. Balancing the short-term effect of being so stressed that I didn't trust myself against the long-term benefit of quitting meant the cigarettes won. I've always been physically capable of much more than people in my age bracket. The last few years, you could say that time has caught up with me. I started exercising on purpose, and had a hard time just breathing while keeping up.

Not anymore. I cannot adequately express how happy I am to have discovered vaping and that it's a successful replacement.

Eventually it would be nice to find one of those signatures that reflect how long & how much has been saved. It's not nearly as nice or gratifying that anyone who knows me IRL cannot believe that I, of all people, have managed to put them the things down. I have been extremely attached. If I was awake, I was banging down analogs.

Maybe I should clarify that I'm a woman, and every man I've known who quit stated they did so cold turkey. They said it wasn't easy for them, but not all that hard at the end of it. I've read that women (being wired differently) have a harder time. I can attest how true that was for me, feeling very uncentered when I stopped. To state that I'm no longer smoking and not posting from a jail cell or rest home is nothing short of miraculous. Unlike cigarettes, figuring out how to live without a vape in hand a majority of the time is a much easier process than I anticipated.

As a woman, let me say that the #1 quality that woman find attractive in a man is HONESTY! You, my dear, answered this post with complete honesty, and shows what a true man you are.

Just like you said - whatever the reason :)

Even if we started vaping just an hour ago - we are healthier now than we were back when we were smoking (and stinking) LOL

I started Vaping much for the same reasons as a lot of people did, wanting to see the kid graduate high school/college wife hated kissing me when I smoked analogs(though she still is getting used to the sweet taste of my e juice I use). I also started vaping to set an example for my smoking friends who smoke cigs cigars and pipes..I figured that if they saw me vaping they'd start asking questions and trying it and sure enough they have Im working on getting them started by offering to buy their first ecig and supply their juice for a month. I have some serious takers too so i guess its working :)

Started vaping a couple yrs ago on and off, but my gf never could get into it. doesn't take more than a couple days before I can smell the analog smell on her then off the wagon I go. Now there's all these shiny new mods and cool new technology, and she liked the taste even the cheapy ego better than old modern vapor variety. so we are gonna give it another go and hopefully we can stay off the analog this time around. A month and counting!

I started vaping a couple of years ago as a method to cut down on smoking. I didn't want to quit but wanted a less expensive vice. It worked well when I was someplace where I couldn't smoke. 3 months ago I broke my wrist, ( badly ) and the surgeon that put me back together told me that it would take forever to heal if I didn't quit smoking. the most recent sin tax hike also played a significant role by bumping the cost of Roy smokes by nearly $30 a carton. ) I pulled the plug and quit by using a combo of patches and he ecig.I am ever going back. Now that they have batteries that last me more than 40 minutes, I am free!

Like many of you I smoked for a very long time too, starting as a teen. I have two young children who I would hide from to smoke but as they are now growing they began catching me, they started becoming aware. Almost every friend I had as a teen had quit smoking, there really were not any people I knew that smoked anymore...just me as a closet smoker...hiding in the depths of my backyard as if I could hide the stench of a stinky, HAHA! After over 20 years I saw a girl smoking an ecig in her car. My hubby noticed it and until that moment it had not occurred to me that ecigs had nicotine. Funny to me now! I have been stinky free for over a month now and feel great. I have moments when I long for a an analog but I know it is a memory that is just that...not reality. For the first time in 10 years I got on my mountain bike and rode it in the mountains in Colorado. I smell great, I feel great and am just happy. I never smoked more than about 4 cigs a day so to vape the cost are not even close...I have spent close to $200 but I am also happy and proud and excited about this new adventure, living longer and smelling clean! I love VAPING!

I had quit smoking over 7 times since I was 20. Never liked the taste or smell that much. Of course you get used to it and partly it grows on you but already at 20 I was cough a lot. Not a feminine cough. Well the last time Iquit smoking they had Nicorette gum. I used that and decided why bother quitting when I can just chew the gum. After 10 years of chewing 4mg day and night somebody let me taste their vape and educated me about stuff as much as he could and offered to answer questions and get me a kit. Said he Diy'd and would keep supplied with juice for cheap. So I thought I was going to save money, finally quit chewing gum, which was on my head board, in my hair falling asleep chewing, or pillow and everywhere stuck some place for when I got back to throwing it away later. Kinda disgusting. I'm a busy girl? Anyway. It definitely did NOT save me money. The guy ripped me off for the $60 I fronted him to buy my kit! Hard times when someone has to do such a thing. But, I carried on and read so many vendor sites and never even found ecf for my first 2 kits. If I like something I never do it small. So I basically started to save money. LMAO

My daughter and I both smoked. Dad passing the bad habit on to the kid. She found the Blu's and told me how it's just a vapor and she hasn't had a cig in X months. I thought I'd make a go of it and found buying the carts at Walgreen's at $15 a pop was too expensive and they never had a flavor I liked on hand. Started checking out vaping on Youtube and got some ideas about it. Knew I didn't want to smoke and vaping looked so much less expensive. Started saving money by either purchasing juices online or making the recipes. So I'd have to say I no longer smoke the nasties and save $$$. The Unvapes do not know how much a cig controls your life. Your house could be going up in flames, but you'd be standing outside watching it burn with a pack of smokes in your hand.
