Hi everybody, so I've had all the supplies for diy juice for over a month, and find myself paralized with nerves. I bought 100strength pg Nic ages ago and just stuck it in the freezer in its plastic bottle. Got my pg and vg. Flavours arrived over a month ago. But everything I'm reading is telling me I need to get a full hazmat suit and a course in lab safety! I've got surgical gloves and measuring beakers and syringes. Are the fumes dangerous as well? Can it be mixed thoroughly without an electric appliance? Im vaping at 6 for now, but in addition to my fear of handling the Nic, I'm concerned about trusting the eliquid calculator to determine how much Nic to add to get to 6. If I put up a recipe, can you guys just double check the math? I went ahead and ordered premade to buy myself enough time to try to get a grip. I wish they made a chart for different size batches using 100 Nic to end up at 6.
Everyone good? Anyone making e juice at 6 with 100nic, pose PM me. I'll have a go at putting the same ingredients through a few different calculators and see if they all come out with the same quantities.
I need to price premade in New Zealand, now that it's legal there, and see if it's cheaper, but I still want to make my own, after I get my fear down to a manageable level.

Maybe this will calm your nerves. I was mixing one time with 100mg nic, it's all I use. I didn't have anywhere to lay a syringe I'd used, so I stuck the plunger end in my mouth. I immediately realized it had some nic on it. Well at that point I found a place to lay the syringe, and rinsed my mouth out.........and........... nothing. Didn't feel nic sic, dizzy, nuttin. I was fine. Now, I don't recommend this..... but it didn't hurt me at all.

If you stick your nose to the bottle and inhale, yeah you might have some effect from fumes, but just in use, no........not unless you're super sensitive or something. I don't wear goggles, don't even use gloves, most of us don't. Be careful with it, but you don't need to fear it. I get it on my hands........go wash em.
Good info from all above. I can't really add anything as far as measuring and mixing. One thing I will add is to keep a log of your mixes. I use a word document to keep a record of my juice mixes. This has helped me to duplicate recipes I liked and also recipes I didn't care for. There is nothing worse than having a juice that you really like only to not remember how much of what you put in it. I also have another word document of recipes that I would like to try. Don't hesitate to ask others for recipes of juices that they talk about in the forums. Having the document of recipes you want to try later also will help you better gauge your next flavor order. I would almost bet that if you wanted, someone would be happy to set up a Hangout session to help you with your first batch to help you gain confidence.

Jup.......definitely don't hesitate to ask.........and you bet we'd do a hangout if you wanted. But there are also many videos online so you can see how easy it is really to mix. just search diy ejuice or something like that on youtube. we'd gladly do a hangout with you to answer questions but it might be confusing if you were actually trying to mix in the hangout. just whatever you're comfy with

I was worried about a lot of the calculators. One gave the instructions for a 10 mil recipe, but then added the flavours on top at the end. A couple were confusing about which ingredient went into the blank. But knowing the amount of Nicotine, and what quantity I want to end up with, I can do the math. Or my husband can, ha. The Nic and flavours are pg, and I want a 60pg/40vg end product. So once you take some Nic out and get it to room temp, I shouldn't refreeze it? Just put it into a glass container in the fridge or pantry? How long will it keep like that?

I have my nic in a separate freezer. I take out a 500 ML bottle, and put it on the top shelf of my normal freezer, then dispense from that into a 30 ml bottle. the small bottle stays in my cabinet and I use that for mixing with. I've never had it go bad doing it that way, and as long as the glass bottle is in the freezer, and I don't thaw it out, I have no issues there either.

I keep my nic in the freezer in glass bottles except for my "working" 30ml bottle which I keep in the fridge.

@Vape? I use E-liquid-recipesdotcom, great calculator, recipe storage and use the blue wrench to tweak the ingredients the way you prefer.

This is in my blog but for convenience I will copy/paste here. I believe in the K.I.S.S. principal. Once I got a few mixes under my belt I no longer used an e-juice calculator....I use this, You have to do a bit of simple math but since I seldom make less than 30 mls of any one thing I made the chart for that amount. One could divide for less or add for more. :)

Flavoring Conversion Chart
converting %'s to mls for mixing up 30 mls

1%---0.3 mls
2%---0.6 mls
3%---0.9 mls
4%---1.2 mls
5%---1.5 mls
6%---1.8 mls
7%---2.1 mls
8%---2.4 mls
9%---2.7 mls
10%--3.0 mls
11%--3.3 mls
12%--3.6 mls
13%--3.9 mls
14%--4.2 mls
15%--4.5 mls
16%--4.8 mls
17%--5.1 mls
18%--5.4 mls
19%--5.7 mls
20%--6.0 mls
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Formula for determining how much nicotine is needed for your desired nic strength

A= total amount of juice, in ml, that you want to make.
B= strength of nicotine that you want in the final juice.
C= number of mg/ml of nicotine in your nicotine base.

Multiply A times B, then divide by C.That will yield how many mls of nicotine base to use.

Example:
You want to make 30mls of 12mg juice. You have 100mg/ml nicotine
A=30
B=12
C=100
30 times 12 = 360
360 divided by 100 = 3.6 mls of nicotine needed

There are lots of e-juice calculators on the web but this is my simple way of determining my measurements.

That's the calculator I use too and tried to link it here but ECF wouldn't let me. I like it because it's nice and simple.

I use the KISS method for miking my base liquid.
Swiped a Pyrex measuring cup from the kitchen (and a Kerr pint canning jar)

    50ml of 100mg/PG nicotine base
    150ml of PG
    200ml of VG
    _____________________
    400ml of 50/50 @ 12mg

I then add about 1/2 of a % ML of flavoring (~10 drops) when I fill 30ml bottles to vape from.

Links to that site are not allowed on ECF. Be cautious if referring to it.

Ah flavouring..... 1/2 of a percent for a 30 mil bottle? I've been reading the guides . The majority of flavours say start at 5% , then add more to taste, up to 15%. Too much? So 5 percent of 30 is 1.5 mil,for instance, and up to another optional 3 mil if I wanted the flavour stronger, or a combination of flavours.

Vape?'s? Lissen huneee. :D All budz are different and delving into the art of mixin... iz a challenge.
How much to add? Only yer OWN taste budz know. Strength of flavors vary. You may make a mix and it will be awful. BUT may be you didn't add enuff flavor. OR... too much! Too much can be as bad (or worse) than not enuff. It's pretty much an art (that I suck at) but don't give up. Just cuz a flavor turns out to be awful, it may not be. Could be just the amount used is off. Or maybe it does just suck. :) Tis all a mystery!

Start low %'s in 5ml quantity & work your way up until it tastes right for you. Gary is right. You'll hear often that taste is subjective everything tastes different to everyone. The best place to get starting %'s is the eesite you bought the flavoring from. Recommended starting points should be on the page about that flavor, somtimes not, but most have a spot on same page to post reviews of the flavor & sometimes people post %'s there. If you have a recipe to go by just follow the recipe j adjust it to your taste.

It's not a problem to put it back in the freezer, it's just a hassle. Nic will last a long time just in a cupboard. It's mostly pg and that is an antimicrobial so it's not going to "go bad" It could oxidize, but that just means it will turn darker. It would take prolly a few years for any really noticeable decrease in strength.

I don't remember.......what sort of flavor profiles do you like? Fruit, tobacco, bakery etc. We could all share a few of our fav recipes. I don't make up my own recipes for the most part. Why reinvent the wheel. I have several from other folks that I love and just keep making those. Sometimes I'll try a new one.

That is OK. Beautiful, and nice and fat, too!
Jup. It is amazing. For those who don't go to the FP it is a pen that was made by Diver. I am so overwhelmed that I was lucky enough to receive one. I will always treasure this. One because he made it, and two because the wood is from an Olive tree from Israel. Those olive trees hold many very special meanings for me, and I've always wanted something made from one.

Ya that's for folks that don't know how to set up an atty for flavor. ;)
Guess I should have said 1/2ml (10 drops) for 30ml of juice though.
Still only 1/3 of what most call the minimum (5% .. 1 drop/ml)
