Dan did a video on making one. You cut the mesh on the bias, roll the wick on a paper clip and bend the clip and mesh to an open U. pull the clip and continue forming your U.
The weirdest thing happened today. I made a 500 wick at 130 mm. Followed Emonty's advice by not rolling with a paperclip. Followed BJ's advise by making a spiral. Damn thing looks like a rocket ! Put it all together and the wicking was terrible. I removed the fill screw, but no fluid escapes even if I turn it upside down. Now it wicks like it never had before. I liked the fill cap in before, because I was having overwicking problems. But this setup is nuts!! Best damn vape to date for me!
So have 100mm wicks in my Zen Standard and ZAP. Pretty sure I could get to 120mm and will do in a few months time when time comes to re-wick again.
Will have some AGA's to play with and when USPS pulls their fingers out and deliver my HellFire some more.
Initially I must give credence with the Zen as I sat here firing the atty for over 2 minutes literally watching the juice level go down without a hotspot in sight. That was rather impressive. Started with a 28 AWG 6/5 wrap and brought it down to 5/4 and was impressed. Flavour isn't there yet but this is a fresh wick so will take a few days to settle.

threw away the tooth picks & removed all fill screws -- the 500 is wicking like a champ!

I know I read it somewhere in this mega thread. Could someone give me the recommended dimensions to cut the mesh for use in a DuD off hand?
the calculated max is 98mm(that's if I'm not wrong about it's 2.5mm wick hole
) I only managed ta get about 75mm in there 
so 75mm x 35mm, you might wanna do the 2nd # @ 40mm then trim it if it's too long
I pointed the rocket into the pond of deliciousness. I don't know the size of the DID wick hole, but I'm willing to bet it's close to 3.5 mm.same here

those are just my #s the tightness of the roll varies anywhere between X mm --> 98mm

yup, I believe you're right -- all DIDs(w/ the exception of the mini)have a 3.5mm wick hole -- thus allowing the fattest wick

This is a great idea. I asked for the same thing a while back.
If you look, emonty has a post where he lists the dimensions for at least a few.
By rolling, offset the roll so it forms a spiral.What is a spiral? How I mean?
