I wrote to the state department of health, asking them to state if e smoking violated the smoking ban. They wrote back to say that it did not....technically. The jerk said that if someone saw it they might mistake it for smoking. It was a long exchange, with me each time asking if it violated the smoking ban. It ended with him saying it did not. I carry a copy of that should an anti smoker complain.

At work, I was a little shy about it at first... I knew they would razz me about it. They did. Converted my assistant. She's awesome :D One of the telemarketers thinks I look stupid with it. She's jealous cause I get my fix at my desk he he I will admit to smoking a camel with the boss. When he asks me to go smoke with him, its hard to turn him down. Although, I do vape outside with him too... Sometimes, a Camel just needs to be smoked to let him know I still care lol

As far as usual public stuff (the store, hairdressers, etc), I try to be discreet about vaping in no-smoking areas. Have yet to be caught. :D

Out and about at night, I am usually with a bunch of friends (who are all used to it by now) and only two or three people will approach me in a given night. I have converted one of my favorite karaoke hosts. He asked me about it last week. I gave him some urls to peek at. He informed me last night that he has an order on the way from Totally Wicked and he has been lurking on the forums (Hi Dave!!)

I don't mind it, I guess but I'm not trying to be the vapor ambassador either.

We went to Dairy Queen for a hamburger at dinner tonight, and hubby tried out a new vaping technique! :) He took the straw out of his empty soda cup (that had the plastic lid on it) and then stuck his white 901 into the straw hole! It worked perfectly... and nobody would have thought a thing of it... other than the vapor. He did get a few weird looks... when people saw the vapor... but maybe they just wondered what the heck kind of soda was he drinking??

it's funny this question was posed...i've given up smoking at work, just because it's a long walk...and haven't made it out to the "smoke hole" to try vaping. i'm NOT a shy person, but i think i'm avoiding that large crowd of smokers wanting a demo. that and it is really windy, my luck my 401 would start acting up and i'd look like an idiot :)

I'm not shy about vaping in public, but there are occasions where i tend to be more discrete foreseeing troubles, or simply because i think that someone around will not be at ease with it. But there is one thing that i kinda hate about vaping in public, the fact that the first question that i always get is:
"Is that to quit smoking?"
Dang, does it looks like i've quitted? I'm smoking in a different, hopefully healthier way. I've even had a colleague telling me "Let's go out for a cig... Oh soz nevermind, you quitted!" o_O
And that bothers me, because i always loved the aggregative power of a good smoke enjoyed togheter.
Also, it's funny that some people, mainly smokers, look down on my new habit like i am "dumb" or something. It's funny to me because they don't realize how much dumber it is to keep on burning analogs (no offence to anyone, is just my opinion)

I have to agree with Smo - for some reason a smoker will be really interested and nice or act like your an idiot. You should hear some of the dumb@ss remarks I get from analog smokers.

    A few examples:

    1) "how much does it cost? whoa i would never pay that much! (like analogs are given to you)"
    2) "that doesn't taste like a real cigarette" (no .... sherlock, it's not a real cigarette)

    and my favorite!

    3) "I wouldn't be caught dead using that thing!" (yeah - I'm sure you will look nice with your toes turned up and a marlboro in your hand) :)

When I get my first E-Cig (should be here next week, hopefully) I look forward to smoking at work, rather than going out in the -20 to -50 (celcius) temperatures to smoke. And then when I come in people know I snuck off for a cigarette because of the smell.

Luckily only one person works there at a time, so whenever a patron isn't standing right in front of me i'll be able to just whip out my pilot and vape away without having to explain anything to anyone.

    +1

I end up doing it in secret (out of the public eye), then someone points it out, and people gather ...

the airplane trip last week was the worst. the flight attendant made me stand up and do a demo in the front of the aircraft. almost peed my pants ...

    i have zero cahones

Awww steve, but i bet you looked mighty cute while doing the demo though mate ;) Lol

I live in a teeny-tiny farming town where the majority of the residents are senior citizens. So yes, I am a little shy about pulling out my e-cig in public. We actually have 2 eating establishments here that still allow smoking (a tavern and a bowling alley) So I do use my e-cig there, but I try to be discreet about it. Still, I've gotten some funny looks (mainly from elderly people) I should add that the devices I use do not look like traditional cigarettes. My favorite e-cig is a pink 901 with pink led light. I wanted to try vaping at the movies, but my 12 yr old son said: "Don't you dare" (So about halfway through the movie I went and snuck a few puffs in the restroom)

I had a bad experience at my local supermarket when i started to vaped inside, the security guard came upto me and got right in my face and asked what the hell i was doing, I told him that its an electronic cigarette and that i can smoke it in clubs, pub’s, buses, actually anywhere….it did not matter to him and he told me not to smoke it anymore, I kept trying to explain to him that you can smoke it anywhere as its very safe to others and healthy…he then yelled out "STOP! Auguring with me and put it away" ..at this point i yelled out back at him “I said OK!” i was only just trying to explain it to you ..anyway my girlfriend saw that tempers where about to fray and pulled me away.

Funny things is the next week when i went back to the store i was told that the security guard was fired! ..So Hmm i wonder Lol

I think when he asked me what it was i should have just said to the security guard that it was a personal vaporizer and not an electronic cigarette.

I am yet to find an establishment in New England that'll let me vape. The only pub I've been told ok was the one where I am friends with the owner. Outside of that any pub or restaurant that I've explained it to has said, "That's really great, unfortunately smokers will think they can light up so please don't use it."
Out of respect to my bar owning friend I do use the black pilot w/blue led to avoid people thinking I am smoking a cigarette. BUT people do come up to me thinking I'm smoking some kind of illegal drug in it!

Was out shooting some pool and singin' some karaoke last night and one of my friends had a new guy 'friend' with her. She was telling him that he just HAS to see my cool new toy and she wants one, etc, etc...

He says, "Oh, I'm a nurse and at the hospital they are recommending those to everyone. I think they are great!".

    He is a non-smoker, BTW.

Other than that, not one single weird looks or anything. No one to explain it to. However, this is the third Monday night in a row and most of the clientelle are regulars.

Gee, I wonder why? This account was a fine example of what not to do when confronted by management. There were so many things in this post that make my blood boil I won't even address them.

I for one do not want to see e-cigs banned by businesses. A little discretion in the first place, and a little tact and maturity when questioned goes a long way.
