About plastic bottles for storing Nic base -

I stored some of mine in these, because they're HDPE plastic, (which many Nic vendors bottle/ship their nic base in). The ones I used have these characteristics:

Azlon Laboratory Bottle, Amber Wide Mouth with Black Screw-on Cap - 5 Oz. (150mL) HDPE
• Leakproof • For light sensitive materials • FDA compliant resin • Rigid • Black Polypropylene closure
These have excellent chemical resistance and are suitable for sampling and storage of sensitive materials.
Temp. Rating: minimum continuous -148 degrees F/-100 degrees C to maximum continuous heated 230 degrees F/110 degrees C

They were sold by a company that supplies the medical, scientific laboratory, and educational fields with products. They're not the made in China el-cheapo, plastic bottles! I felt perfectly comfortable putting some Nic Base in them. Several websites that have researched the various plastics, and make recommendations for which is suitable for what kind of use, state that...HDPE does not leech into contents stored in it.

I also have a liter or 2 stored in glass bottles. Will see, when the time comes, if there's any difference in it. I'll bet there won't be.

I have only used glass for re-bottling but probably wasn't clear what I was asking before. I would like to store one recent purchase in the plastic bottle it came in so as not to open it until I need it. Then I would place in smaller, glass bottles. I was wondering if these smaller bottles could then go back into the freezer. This would take up less freezer space. I guess we just have to do what works best for each of us.

Leaching, like oxidation, accelerates with heat. Kept in the freezer, nic base will have much less molecular activity, both involving oxygen and plastic. I'm comfortable putting a fresh sealed #1 plastic bottle of 100mg in the freezer for a year or more, then decanting it into glass. I feel that a new #1 bottle is has minimal/no impact over a year or two in freezing temperatures. I have had both RTS and Wizard Labs nic come out extremely well after more than a year sealed in #1 bottles in the freezer. I wouldn't re-use a #1 bottle as that's more likely to induce leaching, but it works for me for the initial phase of storage.

Like most things in these tense times, we all have different levels of risk tolerance. That's mine, but yours may be different.

I purchased all my nic base as 100% VG, since that's how I vape it. I have a question about transferring to glass bottles. Does the nic tend to separate out? In other words, does the base have to shaken well before use/transfer? I have always shaken well the little bottles I've purchased before. I know it introduces a lot of air bubbles. So if the base needs to be shaken, after you transfer to glass bottles, should they remain open until the air bubbles are gone?

I was wondering about leaving them open until the air bubbles were gone as well. I rebottled 6 liters of 100% VG using a funnel and having it fall down into an empty glass bottle created many microbubbles inside. I left the caps off for like 10 minutes and the bubbles rose to the top but stayed at the top.

Then I got 2 liters of 100% PG and pouring it into smaller bottles created hardly any bubbles and leaving the cap of for just a few minutes caused all bubbles to rise to the top and disappear. No doubt the difference is due to the lighter viscosity of PG.

I am not going to worry about it. I read Kurt's entire thread before buying any nicotine and I feel confident that everything will be fine.

A few months back I removed a 500ml bottle of nic from the freezer. Left it on the counter over night to make sure it was at room temp. I transferred that 500ml over to 60ml bottles. Kept one out to use and put the rest of them back in the freezer. So, yes you can put them back in the freezer. Fortunately our nic isn't like food products that shouldn't be refrozen once brought to room temps.

Yeah we dont have enough information to really know. NN says PG. But thats because of shelf life. Kurt said his VG was pretty much unchanged after 6.75 years in his thread. Nobody on here has i think stored PG like Kurt for 7 years so we would have any kind of comparison.

No change in either pg or vg after 5 years 4 months.

While it sounds good, not all HDPE and plastics are created equally. High end HDPE for freezing "probably not what vendors use which is why they say to put in glass" is possible, but its probably not as cost effective as just some amber boston rounds. Here is a list of plastics, the bottoms of almost all plastic stuff has these on them so you know if you can reuse.

This sounds like it might be good info, unfortunately the page doesn't load for me.

Ok, do this. Google "Numbers on plastic bottles explained" and you should come up with it, or something like it. I could copy paste the entire thing, but it would be a huuuge post.

So not saying not to use glass, but for short term plastic doesn't hurt.

The reason the give for not using plastic for long term storage is due to leeching of the plastic into the liquid. May not change the color, but gives you something extra to vape that you may not want to vape...

I just looked up the bottles that RTS uses to ship nic in. I have been saving these to store my PG, and VG in. I think I'll reconsider that.

Plastic #1 – PETE or PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
    • Picked up by most curbside recycling programs, plastic #1 is usually clear and used to make soda and water bottles. Some consider it safe, but this plastic is known to allow bacteria to accumulate.
    • It’s found mostly in soda bottles, water bottles, beer bottles, salad dressing containers, mouthwash bottles, and peanut butter containers.
    • Plastic #1 is recycled into tote bags, furniture, carpet, paneling, fiber, and polar fleece.

I did the same as I had company when my orders arrived so just put everything in freezer. I need to re bottle into glass. I have no qualms about freezing in plastic for awhile.

And until you drop it - it is reusable almost forever...
My bottles came yesterday. I had a liter in the freezer in plastic for about two months. Rebottled it into 60 ml bottles. Got some bubble wrap, and wrapped them today. All, plus the nic in WL sample bottles fit into a plastic box, for which I can't find the lid. All together in the freezer. One bottle currently in use naked.
