I hated having to buy coils and I am so much happier building my own. It's my zen mommy time, kids in bed, vape gear spread out over the dining room table, frosty beer at hand. Building and mixing is my happy place.
Same, 3 en route, 1 waiting to ship and 2 placed this morning.Between orders that are en route and orders that I literally just put in when I got off work this morning, I have 6 coming (one was split into two separate shipments).
I'm a man, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.
Oops... make that 3 placed this morning. Entered the Broke Dick thing and apparently won so ordered 120ml of juice for $0.01 + shipping. Even if it sucks I'm only out $3.Same, 3 en route, 1 waiting to ship and 2 placed this morning.I do love payday.
Yep. I think learning to get the wick density right is harder than making coils.Building coils isnt bad, or hard, and really doesnt require much kit. Just allow yourself the learning curve.
Ha ha, my first couple of attempts I used so much cotton. Luckily I've managed to figure it out pretty well from that point.Yep. I think learning to get the wick density right is harder than making coils.
My stockpile plan is austere but adequate (see below) and I've been going slow just in case I learn something and that's happened on a couple of fronts in the last few weeks. Stealth has always mattered to me. Recently I find that my preferred hardware, an SV rda clone and Pico, in all black, are my stealth solution so I had to get some of each and that pushes me a few items past the stocking budget for hardware. (I'm not above increasing my stock numbers if government interference appears more likely as 8/18 approaches.) I started a brother of mine vaping 2 years ago and can't persuade him to stockpile as I'd like. I'll share with him no matter what so I have to provide a few extra things on account of him. I did persuade him to pay for his share of nic which is in my storage.
A few days ago I put Arctic Fox firmware on a Pico and a VTC mini. I'm keeping the stetings so the mods fire the same as before but i'm learning about how I vape from the puffs timer and displays of peak watts and temp for each puff. This might influence my choice of hardware going forward but hasn't yet.
I've done some searching about the durability of nicotine. It's tough enough that agricultural tobacco field waste can be an environmental problem. I know from personal experience and reports by others that nic can survive for decades in stored tobacco leaf. It may be that oxidation and loss of potency are somewhat separate issues. There may be a very small decline in potency that home freezing can't stop so may be preservation for indefinite time is not realistic. However it may turn out that after 20 + years the potency has declined, let's say 20%, and there is only the need to use a higher amount. I'm still looking into this. The long term storage advice seems to be based on best practice not necessarily reflecting all the chemistry issues.
In the early Genesis days you had no choice but to build your own coil. Gawd, back in those days we used rolled SS mesh screen for wicks, what a PITA.
I started doing 100% of my own coils when the DNA40 came out. At that time nobody was selling NI coils so we had no choice but to build our own.

There may not be definitive answers. People needing to store liquified nicotine for 10-20 years and more is sort of a new thing and not something some chemist has likely spent years perfecting. So far the best we have are andecdotal accounts of liquified nic holding up reasonably well. But better understanding of the chemistry might give insights into what to expect. In the mean time my nic is in padded amber glass bottles in the freezer and that's where it's going to stay. However I won't panic if it spends some days or weeks at room temperature. Please let us know what you find out.

For each build I do I've managed to figure out ratios based off my pinky finger where to cut my cotton strip. It's worked great so far. That's one reason I bought the Siren gta, it looks easy to wick.
What coils exactly?True, but buying premade coils at 12.00 a five pack grates me.
That's one of the many things I like about the STM. Stuff as much rayon in there as I possibly can (without covering the coil) and I'm good to go. It does make for a tighter draw but since I MTL, I like it that way.Yep. I think learning to get the wick density right is harder than making coils.
One of my brothers won't part with his Nautilus mini, which worries me a little in case of government interference. I order from Fasttech often enough and got him this pack of N mini style coil heads. He thinks the first one he tried was a dud but he says the second is indistinguishable from the authentic ones he buys locally and he says it's been in service for nearly a month (he vapes liquid I make with just 1% flavoring whicch might help with the service life). About 90 cents eachWhat coils exactly?
I just got another baker's dozen packs of Nautilus BVC coils for $75.09
Prices vary wildly from place to place and new "best sources" change.
