Vinegar bath worked. Cap is clean.

@BillW50 I was wrong, these caps a chromed brass with a brushed finish. You can tell by the threads and the scratch in the first pic. I'm surprised they don't strip easily.

Now onto cleaning the mod's threads.

Sorry, the pics aren't that great. Don't hire me for your wedding shots.

That's an electrolyte material deposited from the battery that's dried up, left in powder form. I found my old high school T-85 graphing calculator a few years ago sitting in a box. It takes 4x AAA's. I tried turning it on, but no power. So I flipped it over and popped the back battery door open. The entire inside was coated and cemented in with that white powder. I'd experienced this earlier in life several times with flashlights, remote controlled cars, toys, etc., and learned to take batteries out of the stuff I wasn't using. I'd been using my graphing calculator so much in the past few years that in my head, I didn't think I'd ever stop using it. I did. The white powder will turn green if it sits, leaking for a suuuuper long time. This is what Panasonic says about it:

So yeah, removal of the batteries in unused mods is highly advised for the sake of the mod and the batteries. I will however mention, as you have Junkle, that it won't necessarily render the mod or whatever product this happens in useless, but it certainly isn't good for it. I'd also keep an eye on the condition of the contacts and any other metals inside or near the battery harness.

So true ... when I packed away a bunch of my Provari V2.5's I missed taking the batt out of one of them. Months and months later, I discovered my mistake. The top batt in the picture partially vented. The inside of the Provari tube was coated with a grey film. I put a fresh batt in it and it would not turn on. I gave it al good alcohol bath, let it dry and luckily it started working again.

Ah yeah, I'm sure the contacts weren't making a good connection.

Indeed they weren't. I used a contact 'pen' like this to clean the positive contact and changed out the spring in addition to the alcohol bath.

    Sounds scary.

Could have been worse. It did cross my mind that if it was a full out venting of the batt, I could have burned down the house because I neglected to remove a battery from a PV put in storage.

in my very early vaping I had a pen mod vent in the family room. Fortunately I had just sat down when it happened and was able to chuck the mod out the door. If I hadn’t just come in the room I dread the thought of what may have happened. It still scares me just thinking about myself and my two dogs & cat.

I had two batteries vent in the garage in a charger. The charger melted and one battery launched 15-20 feet. I heard it hit the closed garage door. It stunk to high heaven and the smell lingered for a week or two after cleaning it up. I won’t charge inside my house so just keep the charger sitting on one of my toolboxes. At least it’s all metal do there’s nothing to catch on fire.

Do you recall anything off with those batteries or charger?

That right there is going to put an end to my charging at work.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I had 2 batteries vent in a mod that were left unused for weeks (both Yihi 130 boards) and had 1 battery vent in a charger.

This was 2 different batteries, both efest. The reason 2 and not 3 is because after the first one vented I pushed the diaphragm back in after seeing a YT video on how to do it (really stupid thing to do, don't do it, not worth the possible bad event). The one that vented in the charger was really old and very used. I have no idea why it vented except that maybe a high internal resistance from age and use had something to do with it?

Point is, because they vented, the pressure pushed the diaphragm up to "open the circuit" so no runaway could occur (as the battery is literally dead at that point - 0 volts).

From my understanding, there are 2 types of safety mechanisms in 18650 batts, the diaphragm being one of them. 18650 (et al) batts will have one of them or none of them. From what I remember reading a long time ago, I deduced that the diaphragm saftey mechanism is safer as it would be almost impossible for it to not kick in when a venting occurs, but anything's possible. I don't remember anything about the other type of safety mechanism except that I remember thinking it didn't seem as reliable (in theory anyhow) as the diaphragm safety mechanism.

It's a gamble no matter how you slice it.

Side note: A while ago ago I bought a Blackcell charger on clearance at VapeNW and it fried the first time I used it. Fried as soon as I put a battery in it. VapeNW would not replace it and the manufacturer never responded to 2 of my emails. Had to do a chargeback to get my money back and that's the last time I bought from VapeNW.

about 1 to 1.5 years ago (I think) I reduced from 12mg to 6mg with little to no increase in juice consumed per day.

Now I'm thinking of reducing to 3mg. If I do that it would make my nic stash double at no additional cost...again. :D I haven't decided yet. But maybe I'll mix about 100ml and see how that goes. 100ml would last me anywhere from 7-10 days at 6mg. That should give me some idea if I'm ready for 3mg. I have a feeling I am ready because I believe my addiction is like 95% hand-to-mouth addiction. When I'm not vaping, I'm looking for something to eat. It never fails. That's no bueno. But I keep very little snacks around so I end up not eating and just chain vaping.

I didn't notice anything off about the batteries. My best guess since both failed was that the charger either failed or over charged the batteries and caused them to fail. The charger was a lump of melted plastic.

I was mixing at 20mg when I started stocking up on nic. Besides my liquid for pods at work, I made it down to 12mg and with doing reviews on so many high output devices I started mixing some at 6 and 3mg. I can sit and chain vape the 3 and 6 forever but don't see myself going down to 3mg permanently. I've been starting to mix down from 12 to 9mg and haven't noticed much of a difference.

Now that I'm here, I want to report that I made my first ever order from Health Cabin. Others here have mentioned this seller. I bought a Mastercard Gift Debit Card to use for the purchase to protect my bank card from mischief.

I bought an extension tube for a Tauren mod. This is something that I've been wanting to try for a while. The tube I have is a ceracoated black finish with etchings to reveal the copper underneath. They didn't have a stack tube to match, so I got a copper one. It should look ok. May need some black electrical tape for a grip.

I have a noisy cricket, but its been too fussy for me. The Tauren has a constant contact switch and is super reliable.

If anyone comes across another store selling stack tubes, let me know!

    Thanks.

I ordered an abyss from them a couple weeks ago and for the first time I’ve seen it they accepted Apple Pay.

These stories are convincing me that I should do my charging outside on the roofed porch, maybe on a cinder block. Right now the charger is on my desk next to my computer tower.

Last year (or maybe earlier this year?) I was going to make a battery charger container out of an old Dell Optiplex 760 tower PC, since it's all metal inside (correction: not perfectly all metal, but very close).

My idea was to gut the tower and lay it on it's side (the side that doesn't open) then set the chargers in there. The side that opens would become the lid. Was also going incorporate a fan.

There were a few challenges but my project stopped because of one challenge: after I removed the motherboard I found the case has motherboard standoffs built into the case which make the "floor" where I would set my chargers very uneven and therefore very hard to fit the chargers in there nice and flat. I need a piece of fireproof material that I can set in there in place of the motherboard in order to make a nice, flat floor.

I went from 12 to 6 without any withdrawal issues so I don't know that those small changes just to go from 6 to 3 would be necessary for me. I'm convinced I'm mostly addicted to the act of smoking/vaping, not so much the nic. Gonna try to jump from 6 to 3 first.
