Are you weening down? Why not?

Part of the purpose of quitting smoking, is no longer being addicted to a drug. We all had such trouble quitting, because the nicotine was so highly addictive. Just think about how it felt, all those times you tried to quit cold turkey. So you must admit, that part of the reason you quit, and why you kept smoking, was the addiction. The addiction is tied directly to the negative health effects of smoking, because if you weren't addicted, you would have been able to quit much easier, and we wouldn't have nearly as many vapers as we have today. Also vaping may not have ever been needed, as quitting cold turkey would have been a lot easier.

That said, why do so many vapers (probably nearly all of you) continue to just vape at whatever nicotine levels you were smoking at? Its so easy to just ween down now. I started at 18mg, (iirc) and slowly, over time, got down to 0mg. This did take a few years. But I did it. There are plenty of places out there that will let you go in intervals of 2mg, up or down. The place in town where I buy most of my vape juice also does this. I went down to 16, 14, 12, 10, etc etc until I got to zero. If for whatever reason, I can not vape, no big deal. So why don't most people do this? Why would you want to remain addicted, so that if something happens where you just can't vape, you go into freakout mode? Its actually disgusting to watch. There are plenty of situations that could arise that could prevent you from being able to vape, possibly for days at a time. Nicotine has also been linked to stomach cancer so that's another reason.

First, it's not the addiction to nicotine for me that derailed my previous quits. I had quit for over a month at least 10 times. Nicotine wasn't an issue. After a week, nicotine addiction is over. So why did I start again? I wanted to smoke. I liked smoking. I liked the effect of nicotine, the concentrating, the calm, the positive effects of this drug.

So now I can safely "smoke". Vaping is cool. I like blowing plumes into the air. I love that 15 second break when I pick up the Triton, drag for 4 or 5, pull it in, exhale, watch the cloud, and meditate, or just think of nothing. That 15 seconds is wonderful.

I dropped from 24 to 18 to 12 and now flirting with 6.

The OP is assuming something not in fact.

This is simply untrue. I won't waste time polling everyone; I've read enough posts to see most people do cut down the level. I will assume a portion drops it down to zero, then quits vaping. I see posts from members a year ago, and they have abandoned ecf. (Understandable, why post into a forum about ecigs when you have quit ecigs?)

If I go to zero nic, I think I might stop vaping, pack it all up, and give it to someone else to help them save their life.

My nicotine addiction is extremely manageable now. Now that is it more pure (not co-mingled with the 1,000's of other chems in cigs). I also can go hours without. There is no more freak out. I like nicotine at this level, with this type of near pure delivery.

My questions for the OP:

1. Why do you continue to vape? You don't get any drug benefit. Is it all just psychological habit for you? Or do you just enjoy it?

2. Why do you think we aren't trying to wean it down? I would think someone who has been part of this forum for the length of time that you have been here would realize that. Or maybe not.

3. Your banner states you haven't smoked since the Nixon administration, and Hendrix was still with us. So you started a nicotine addiction with vaping? Either your banner is bs, or you are out of context, as we are trying to end a nicotine/smoking addiction.

Good catch on the banner I totally missed it.

I reassert my statement. Nothing worse than an exsmoker. In this case one with a chip on the shoulder. It was hard to quit for him/her so now it should be painful for us. If it isn't he/she will do their best to make it painful.

I didn't make the switch to quit altogether. Personally I enjoyed smoking & knew that I couldn't quit because I really didn't want to. What I did want was a healthier alternative if there was one & then I stumbled upon this thing called vaping. I'm not opposed to moving down if my body tells me that I need to.

I think that people start vaping for many different reason & sometimes it's not necessarily because they want to quit. I figure...everyone has a vice. I've never been a drinker so when I want to relax or need stress relief I smoked. Now I vape. I feel like its a pretty good trade off that I've made. Based on my research about nicotine I should be more concerned with my caffeine intake.

I might try to drop down at some point, I never intended to fully quit smoking, I just picked up a starter kit and juice to see if I could make the switch and I sure did (thus far *fingers crossed*) I was on about a PAD marb reds, and started with some 12-18mg liquid and now I'm at 18-24mg, I always bring 24 at work or when going out for drinks, personally I don't see any "need" for me to drop my nicotine, I enjoy how it feels, not trying to start anything, I'm just saying I love me my nicotine just like I love my caffeine, I've been tempted to order 36mg from MBV just to see what that's like but have refrained for now, at home and night I try and use 12-18 though. Overall I don't know if I plan to drop my nicotine down, I guess we'll see sometime down the road :vapor:

I personally feel a certain amount of nicotene is good for you. I think where the problem has been is with the delivery aspect, ie smoking. I would like to cut down to about 6mg eventually but am in no hurry. Certain things in society have been demonized for too long so no other research has been done and this is a big mistake. Nowadays nic is finally being researched for diabetes and alzheimers. How will we ever know what possibilities are out there if we ban everything we don't like.

I've never smoked before in my life, and I vape because I enjoy it. I find the nicotine and hand to mouth action keep me awake at work when I'm driving for hours or doing nothing, it gives me opportunities to talk to other guys about switching to vaping from smoking, and I think the whole hobby aspect of it is great.
I've read up on the pros and cons of small doses of nicotine, and don't fear it - a 6mg juice does more for my depression than Prozac or L5-hydroxytryptophan ever did for me, and doesn't leave me wishing I was dead later.

Think I'm in it for the long haul.

I'm being forced to wean myself off of nicotine (at least temporarily) for a future surgery, so I have managed to cut down from 36 to 18, and I'm doing alright. I still have a tank with some 24 that I hit if I'm really stressed out. If I wasn't being forced, I would have absolutely no desire to reduce my nicotine unless my body requested it.

I've failed past quit attempts eventually because I simply can't function without nicotine. (Yeah, I know I'm disgusting and pathetic.) I have ADHD, and I have found one of the things that helps keep me calm and focused is nicotine. I do take a prescribed medication for this, but when I was not smoking for more than a year, my dosage (already quite high) had to be doubled just so I could manage to maintain. Take a moment and go look up the medications for ADHD, their risks, and their side effects. To me, it makes the known risks of nicotine look like child's play.

When I vape a reasonable amount of nicotine, I get the best of both worlds. I can stay on a reasonable dose of my medication, I can focus, and I don't have to kill myself with 4000 chemicals in my lungs 30x a day. I'm glad you've been able to reduce your nicotine, but not all of us want to or can.

Perhaps the lack of nicotine is causing you to be rather abrasive towards others who are on their own bumpy road.

I'm the resident Quitter. . .smoked tobacco for more than 52 years, vapped around 3.5 years. Feb 6th was my last vape. Now, I do neither. And, it was one hellofalot easier than I thought it would be. JMHO

Cheers,
