Just a thought. Couldn't you put the bottom coil deck on the mod with no tank section or wick, and fire the mod the same way a person would dry burn the coil to help clean it. This would let you know if the coil is heating up and glowing red. If it does, then yes, I would guess it is a wicking issue.

Thanks everyone for your responses

Wow that's a lot of information but I get your procedural thinking

I used my MVP to test the resistance......which yes, tells me that the coil itself is working so it's obviously just not wicking for some reasons

I'm going to try and build it again

Thank you

So fire your atomizer without the tank, make sure the coil is firing. Don't you prime your wick? Wet your wick and confirm proper operation before assembly, good practice anyhow.

My first thought is an issue with the current path. Reminds me of the problem I had with an Expromizer, which uses a very similar setup to
the KF4 (spring) It would randomly lose connection on firing, resistance check would show OK, but as soon as I would fire it, a combination of crappy spring, and a tiny bit of liquid would cause the spring to lose connection, and fail to fire. Cure in this case was a different spring.

Dry fire your coil, make sure it is operating properly, if it isn't you need to make sure you have proper connectivity through out. Make sure your 510 is clean and dry, both on the Atty, and the device, make sure the atomizer is clean and dry inside the base. Test fire the coil.

So your using silica, and don't prime it before assembly? Even if this is the case I cannot imagine not being able to tell it is firing by the heat generated, and the taste of the coil/silica heating up.

I'm with everyone else, a bit more info would be nice, as well as some details on your build.

Thanks Kiwi. I am ordering from Canvape this week anyway and they carry the 4S kit by Tobeco. If I don't get confirmation I will order it and see if it's good. If not I will order from Vaportek. I am in Canada so shipping from the U.S. is often pricy and takes a couple weeks. Plus I am moving on Friday and would like it before I do the 12 hour drive:)

Late to the party and don't know if you got an answer already, but yes, the Tobeco 4S kit is 2.7(ish)mm, markedly more airflow than stock. I couldn't use my K4 without it, even wide open the stock airflow is too restrictive for me.

For those equipped for the job (drill, bits, lubricant, pliers), drilling the center post is an option. I was able to open the center post up to 7/64" (2.78mm, or a bit larger than the S-kit's 2.7mm). The six center post side holes were also enlarged, up from 1mm (0.039”) to 1.1mm (0.043”, used a #57 drill bit). I left the radial air holes in the juice control ring as-is, they're sufficient for the diameter of the center post IMO. After the mods, the air control is now actually needed- I found the draw to be a little too airy. I was a little surprised the air control threads weren't damaged, but they survived enlarging the post. FWIW, I drilled from the top of the center post down towards the threaded end.

Thanks Croak. I just ordered them to see and they appear to be a big improvement. I stuck a 2.4mm drill bit in and there was space around it so should be good. I will get around to installing one tonight and see how it goes. I think I am a strange vaper as I like pretty tight draw for mouth to lung but an airy one for direct inhales. Haven't been able to get the V4 to work how like for mouth to lung so thinking I will go the other way.

Cobalt I tried to drill a stock centre post out but didn't use lubricant and it just broke...could have seen that coming:). Ah well it was a buck fifty from FT so no big lose.

I will let you guys know how well this opens them up. Do you guys lung hit the K4 or just like a very airy mouth to lung? Thanka

On the KF4, I definitely take big lung hits when I haven't vaped for awhile, and when I chain vape it's a combination, sometimes I don't inhale at all, just mouth to nose for the flavor. Tight airflow, in either case, is uncomfortable for me. Then again, I take the cap off my soft drinks and milk shakes and throw away the straw when I drink them too. :)

Pretty much how I smoked, now that I think of it. When taking a smoke break, I'd hit it hard and deep, slipstreaming direct to lung for the entire cigarette for the fast and heavy nicotine delivery and "lung scratch", but when chain smoking it'd usually be a lot of frequent smaller, but still airy puffs. Never clamped down and made a tight draw with my smokes. And I never gave a damn about throat hit (still don't), other than if I smoked too much and irritated my throat. It was never part of my conditioned pleasure response to smoking. A big lungful of slightly "scratchy" warm smoke, however, was.

Sorry i don't have time to read all the post here, so i will have to ask. In your opinion what is the best Kayfun 4 clone on the market? I was thinking about getting a tobecco, how does this one compare to the others?

Thanks!
I can only speak for the Tobecco versions. I have 3 of them. No problems with them and they are still running with the original parts that they came equipped with. 2 are running kanthal coil builds and 1 with ni200 nickel coil.
