hey neighbor! I live in Simi too lol.
Nice looking build. what did it meter at? 28g kanthal?

What up neighbor! :) 28g Kanthal yea, its a touch under .4ohms. I have been vaping it for the last day or so, I think I may need to switch my juice cause its hitting hard as I expected, but the juice Im using makes it a TOUCH harsh at times.

Ive noticed that with quite a few of my juices now too. Some much more than others. Primarily my fruity juices. The more mellow dessert flavored juices i have hit amazing in these coils especially since most of them are a higher VG content!

This thing is a cloud machine lol. I can't really judge flavor though. I used a DIY juice. But I will be rewicking and changing juice on it soon.

As for splitting method, I did a normal 10 wrap first and then torched while pinching. Then I split it... this part was an absolute pain in my left .... cheek. If you have one of those jeweler's magnifying headwear, I highly suggest you use it. I wish I had one lol. After I split, I have it a pinch with tweezers to tighten them back up. Then I put my safety pins back in and installed them. I gave them another pinch after dry burning them to make sure everything was nice and tight and in working order.

These coils glow bright red instantly.

Thanks sick, that's kind of what I figured. Been meaning to get a jewelers eye set from my sister. She owns a jewelry store, so may be able to get one for cheap. Almost snagged a monocle last time I was at her store, but it was for looking inside diamonds, and was a bit powerful for coil work.

Decided to finally pick up some cotton from CVS for my Igo-L and Vamo. My first coil was terrible. Second coil was good but broke it trying to bend around the cotton. Third was a charm. Though I still can't get the cotton where I want it. 11 wraps of 30gauge around a paper clip gives me 2.7ohm. Will play around with that next. Even with my newbie build I feel dizzy after 2 hits. My 50/50 DIY Lychee tastes a lot better with the sterile cotton over the normal coil with ekowool.

One other note, its so much easier to put this coil on the IGO-L than a normal coil wrapped around a wick.

Which lychee flavoring did you go with? I'd like to try to mimic bamksi's lychee.

I just feel like at lower ohms you're probably just torching the juice & with higher VG juices you're building up a toxic layer of funk quickly. I get ridiculous flavor from a dragon nano between 0.8 -1.2ohms. Just my take on it.

Nope. My coils stay clean.

But you have to realize, you're not taking as long of pulls on these setups.

Some attys are not well suited for sub ohm builds, if they can't wick enough and breathe enough, you are going to get dry hits. Going to hemp fiber may help out a lot of wicking problems. With cotton, it's all a matter of finding the right density and amount to use for ones particular application. On all my rba's I only have to re-wick them once a week at the most, using cotton. It's all a matter of finding the best ohms, build and wick for each rba.

Yes, I do realize that. Nonetheless, I don't care what set up you're using, unless you make a freshie coil every few days, every coil will eventually develop a build up of gunk on them. ie, fresh coil is silver, after a day or two of use it gets black. After a week of serious chain vaping its coated with a thicker layer of black which is cleaned easily by doing a good dry burn after cotton is removed. High VG juices being thicker tend to accrue this gunk faster than thinner juices and that gunk has been identified as being... lets say, not pleasant. ;)

@ levisdaddy - due to the nature of a subohm coil heating up significantly faster than a coil over 1 ohm, it reduces the time drawing or pulling on the atty. In other words, if you make a 3 ohm coil you can draw on it for 30+ seconds and wont come close to getting the amount of vapor off of a coil that's 0.8ohm in 2 seconds when running both at the same voltage. That might be an over-exaggeration as I haven't tested this with actual data but you catch my drift and I doubt I'm too far off.

My original point was that the lower ohms you go, the hotter it gets in a shorter period of time and if you go SUPER low (below 0.1-0.3, which is sketch in my eyes) then you are essentially torching the juice. Granted the way to make up for it is by taking super short draws. But the hotter the coil gets the more apt you are to torch the juice which kicks clouds n all but doesn't taste as good.

In my opinion, clouds are cool n all but I prefer flavor. Besides, I'm getting sick of having to wash down the inside of my windshield every week, worrying about setting off smoke detectors & drawing more attention when vaping in public, lol!

Just wanted to update that my wife has been really enjoying your hybrid rope strand cotton wick for the past couple of months! Its so much easier to switch out the cotton and clean than a SS wick! Only prob is when i change the wick after 4-5 times the coil wire breaks and i have to make a new coil, but its not that big of a deal and it works great! This is from my wife who manages to get dry hits or flood everything... So im pretty darn happy
