centered on an igo-l

drip on the empty well so you won't drown your dragon ;)

I cant seem to get the twisted dragon working in my favor. Every time i build one it hits harsh and dry and usually burns up my cotton way too quick. Using 28g and twisting it relatively tight and it meters usually above .8 yet it seems to get way hotter and just break things. any ideas iTEO?
Picked up some ribbon to mess around with too. I wonder if a nano ribbon coil will work, i feel like i saw that posted somewhere in this thread. Probably gonna try both the twisted again and mess with ribbon. Rebuilding on monday because i spent the weekend visiting college roomates..... drank too much and ruined my coils trying to re-wick.... doh!

search on youtube on how to make a micro coil and then this... #459

get it right and you'll end up like this... top is soaked and bottom vaped out dry with no wicking problem.

also, I am now using sterile cotton and ditched the organic cotton.

I have had no issues with the wicking it just seems like my twisted nano coils are just off somehow. I see that your twisted kanthal is much less twisted than mine. Mine was almost like a spring. I will try a looser twist and see how that works. The sterile cotton has been working the best for me as well, along with the pretzel bedding technique with dual nano dragon coils.

I gave a dragon coil a try in my trident and didn't like it. I didn't get as much flavor and vapor as I would with my normal builds. I also got a lot of harshness too.
But, when I built a dragon for my dad's Fogger it worked really well.
So there are obviously numerous variations with this and I'm sure they're all sick. What I'm wondering is if there's an improvement if the coil's opening is aligned to the air intake as opposed to just having the coil perpendicular to the air hole. Looks like both work well, but iTEO, your thoughts on this? I imagine having a coils opening aligned to the air hole would promote air flowing through the coil itself whereas with it perpendicular it's just sucking it all up off the coil and less through it.
This is how I build my coils, I think it'll work for a dragon too. You can get the center of the coil right up to the airhole. I wrap these with a single wire on a 18g needle. I can post a pic if you want to see how I wrap them.

I think I may need a better wicking option...getting to much burn taste after a few hits....

Could someone explain the "pretzel" setup? I cant picture it in my head. Right now my coil is pushed into the cotton. Everything is wet, but still get a burn taste.

Thanks!

could be the top of the coil is getting too dry too fast, in a case like that I put cotton on top of the coil as well as underneath.

Great thread! Very inspiring! I've been building these dragon coils, as well as some variations, for the last few days on all my attys. really great fun. Different degrees of success, which adds to the excitement! The biggest impact was the genesis build. I built my Steam Turbine with dual nano dragons on cotton. I used a few strands from an unravelled SS rope to break up the surface tension of the liquid in the holes, which allowed some flow to the cotton for better wicking. The difference compared to a normal mesh and rope/mesh build is astonishing. Even at higher resistances, it's producing the kind if vapor closer to what I was getting from a sub ohm dripper build.

Really great thread!

Decided to finally pick up some cotton from CVS for my Igo-L and Vamo. My first coil was terrible. Second coil was good but broke it trying to bend around the cotton. Third was a charm. Though I still can't get the cotton where I want it. 11 wraps of 30gauge around a paper clip gives me 2.7ohm. Will play around with that next. Even with my newbie build I feel dizzy after 2 hits. My 50/50 DIY Lychee tastes a lot better with the sterile cotton over the normal coil with ekowool.

One other note, its so much easier to put this coil on the IGO-L than a normal coil wrapped around a wick.

This picture is awful but I built a three coil hydro with twisted 28g which measured to 1.1 ohms so I decided to build a second one. It's a very small deck to work with in the Cyclone. So a lot of poking to get the coils touching cotton.

It hits well but could use some improvement. I need to use more cotton next time.
I tried wrapping cotton around the outside as well and it produces great clouds. Probably going to take it down today as it drains batteries like crazy.

What up guys, never posted in here bc I've never had great success with the nanos I built but I've built a couple hydra coils and have been loving them

That build in particular is a three headed hydra. Four wraps each coil around a needle nose bottle tip, 28g kanthal, 1.3 ohms if I remember correctly. Built it a couple days ago.
I have built a couple four headed hydras but just experimenting with this one. Flavor and vapor is awesome. Blowing fatter clouds on a provari then all the subohmers I work with.
Wicking these things is weird but I think I got it.
Iteo if you don't mind posting how you wick your hydras I'd be thrilled

First attempt to make a nano dragon on my RSST...I've lost hope after not getting the flavor I wanted even with horizontal or vertical dual or single coils on my genny, but after I stumbled upon this thread I begun to have hope and made my first attempt at a dual nano dragon coil:

.59 ohms and the best taste and most vapor I've ever had in my genny! The coils still get red hot inside so I guess that means my cotton is a little too loose?

Either that or you're not getting enough air flow for that low on your ohms. As near as I can tell from the pics, it looks like you've got your coils out close to the air holes but I'm assuming duel air holes as well.

If you haven't done so yet I'd suggest experimenting with a little higher ohm setup, up around 1 ohm or even 1.2 ohms. If you don't like it you can go back but if you do like it, it's just so much easier on everything.

My sweet spot is around 1.4 ohms. Vapor is like a big drag on a ciggy, flavors really pop, I don't get little hot droplets on my tongue, and most importantly, it doesn't take my throat out lol.
