What about the Alps? Aren't there still lots of wild places there? And the Pyrenees? I bet there are still interesting wild places in some of Europe. Oh, yes, the Camargue in France? They have wild horses there.

Well, there are those places to consider, but I'd rather hit the others that I mentioned first. So ... no. More than anything, I'd like to go back to Alaska. That's actually doable and possibly on the agenda. :)

Jumping in the middle of the conversation again but i wanted to ask.

Anyone of you seen mushrooms pop up yet? A lot of rain this year and here all of our mountains and forests are full of mushrooms!! If we have mushrooms from September, in November it's going to be mushroom mayhem. I know a place i can get parasol mushrooms and if you wear them as a hat you can protect yourself from the rain. :D

We.ve had them all summer, in the shadows under the trees. Unfortunately, they're toadstools and eating them might not have a good outcome.

Same here as Awsum. It won't be long before we have "hen of the woods" coming up along with puffballs. They are edible, but not all that yummy from what I've heard from locals. I'll stick with my morels in the springtime.

That's the safe way to pick mushrooms, Cindy.

There are tons of mushrooms growing around here, but I have no idea what is edible and what isn't.

Good evening, Peeps.

Well, yeah. It's best to be taught by an old timer. I'm afraid I fall into that category.

Those puffballs are edible only when they are white (not ripe enough) i think and they are like philadelphia cheese. Morels usually grow on burned forests (one year after) and dead wood, do they grow on your land? You are very lucky. I never tried them they look nice! They grow two hours by car from here (over 300 spiecies of mushrooms there)

I have no idea too Jerry lol, there are 2-3 common species here which we gather and then if i find anything i don't know i check them online and on youtube (there is a professor explaining all mushrooms on Greece on youtube), but in general we eat 2-3-4 kinds and skip the others for safety.

Well, yeah. It's best to be taught by an old timer. I'm afraid I fall into that category.
True, there are people who know them but that is mostly outside my country, here i don't even bother because many of the old timers believe if you cut a mushroom and it turns blue then it's poisonous, which is not true all of them are edible (reaction with oxygen). Since they might do something wrong i don't even ask.

Pics of Grevena, a lot of forests and mushrooms.

My parts arrived. Time to play mechanic! :D

Morel season here is a high point of the year for many people. We had them every year when I was a child. That and Christmas trees (cedar) we got at my uncle's farm. They are very safe, because the only poisonous one that looks anything like them is still quite different. I didn't know they grew in Europe, too. Sad that they don't do well in "captivity" I lived in the southwest for a few years, and missed many things.

Dad once said that puffballs are also edible, but not worth it because they aren't as good as morels.

You guys are so lucky they grow a lot there. Here only in some places (like grevena) and on burned forests.
There are pseudomorels i think and they upset the stomach a bit. We don't eat puffball here too, since there are many others a lot better tasting.
This is going to be a great year for mushrooms.

    Good afternoon, Voltpeeps.

I slept late and had to get on the road for my cleaning job.

Then, shopping at Costco. They are killing me. I found really nice winter gloves for $16.99 a pair....indoor/outdoor slippers for $20[perfect for running out to the freezer shed and BBQing on the back porch]..... and a galaxy Tab4 for $159. 8 gigabytes instead of the 11 that I have but the price was incredible. Heck, every time I check to see how many byte thingeys I have used it is only 3 so I think the 8 gigabytes will be fine for Hubby.

I must be going through my shopping phase. By the end of the year I will quit and then not shop for another 3 years:)

I grew up to my dad wearing Old Spice.

That's what I associate "man smell" with now.

Well, that and the lingering musty-musky-funky-sweaty-ew-I-need-to-go-wash-the-sheets-again smell.

Does anyone remember the after shave that drove woman to chase that hunky guy wherever he went in town?

Eau de gasoline, that is manly. You hunky Greek, you, Trit:)
