I don't understand the "Hobby" aspect of vaping.

Maybe I am vaping for the wrong purpose ... I vape so I don't go back to that nasty cigarette habit I had for 40 years. Kinda akin to maybe 'saving my life'.

I don't ever remember [anyone] that ever considered smoking cigarettes as a "Hobby" ... To some, I guess vaping serves as another purpose?

oh well, I guess you can make a "Hobby" out of just about anything.

Why take your Vette to the track on the weekend when you can drive it on public roads at posted speed limit?

what about those guys who drive non street-legal cars on a daily basis? what then? I used to be into modding my car and i know that the majority of people who go to the track around here arent people who drive it to the track on a trailor. its gotten so bad that the repercussions led up to cops casing out the area and pulling over cars constantly every track day. You would be pulled over while you were leaving the track or entering. The actions of the few , led to consequences of many, regardless if you were following the rules or not. street legal stock cars were being pulled over because of this.

Just to make my position clear I'm not against clouders I just want them to ease off till we know where governments are going in relation to response to vaping all the analogies about other sports and stuff is mute because their status is relatively stable and not under threat of bans. Also to maybe further increase understanding of my position I live in the UK I'm ex military and cannot engage in shooting because of michael Ryan (hungerford) & Thomas hamilton (dunblane) two individuals that got firearms banned except for .22 rimfire (although they may have done away with that now) so understand that one battery blowing on camera here could lead to heavy legislation for vaping. It only takes a couple of incidents to radically alter a debate and make it untenable to defend ruining it for everyone. Now maybe you think that because your in america so what won't affect me but it will because if the uk goes stupid again the EU will follow and then it will hit the shores of america.

Once we know what status vaping will have in legislation assuming it isn't banned I couldn't care less how many blow clouds or even where they will blow them I'm not against it because I'm some old curmudgeon not wanting youth to have their fun and to be honest people saying\insinuating that without clarifying a persons view is frankly pathetic. I want all of us to be vaping for a very long time however we vape not curtailed because some idiots push too far too fast and get caught on camera blowing battery's and injuring themselves or others.

Oh and can we also stop pretending that it is cloud chasers pushing innovation in vaping because it isnt it's the thousands of product testers all round the world donating their time and effort that is pushing innovation. Cloud chasing is creating god mods and Ismoke monstrosity's that are not even decent vaping devices.

Have you ever bought fresh vegetables directly from the grower on the side of the road? Guess what, they are not regulated by FDA and they are doing just fine. Our US juice makers have not given any reason to anyone to be regulated, just as long as none of them start putting rat poison in their juice.

And even IF a big government man puts a big lock and regulate the crap of vaping, people will still get hurt one way or another. Just like people are still dying in car accidents.

Whats next? Regulating walking because millions of people twist their ankles each day?

So lets put those till foil hats too a better use.

Those growers ARE regulated.

The juice makers ARE regulated.

Both usually out of business.

And the big companies selling "juice" by the tonnage ARE putting poison in your drink. With FDA approval, mind you.

Yes... walking IS already regulated. Ever heard of a Jay walking ticket?

What color would you like to paint your hat, sir?

Sent from my device.

Can't help but notice you left hockey off that list there eh?

I thought about hockey, but it was too easy, eh. I mean, grown men who attach sharpened steel blades to their boots so they can slide around a ice rink and chase a frozen rubber disk around only being able to touch it with a stick ............

Well,

This conversation always goes one way with emotions that run into the stratosphere. You got Maturity on one side, trying to get their point across to the less then mature on the other side. No one can see the "Whats good for the community" in between. Its akin to pulling out our hee haws and debating which is better based on looks alone. Watch out, they`ll regulate that thing,,,, its too big!!

(sarc on)
I`ll tell you what, lets make these comps really fun and entertaining. Lets put a rule in place that says everyone must use a TrustFire battery. That ought to make for some fun and lets just give Darwin his two pounds of flesh and be done with it.
(sarc off)

OK, I`ll go back to just watching this little battle of verbosity, err, I mean wills, maybe. Gets kinda old really after about 10 pages.

I didn't read through all of the pages so what I'm saying here has probably been said before, but here it is anyways:

Cloud chasing contests are perfectly fine as long as they are well supervised, regulated and happening at a reasonable location (vape shop, small vape meet. Not in huge meets like ECC where media and unaware public is present). There are rules in every single contests and cloud chasing contests should not be different. The organizers should write these rules to minimize hazards as much as possible. Making sure the participants use proper batteries, proper coil builds etc etc and disqualify those who do not comply. Not simply bring whatever you've got and blow clouds.

Yay! The Americas! (USA & Canada)

We run our society on the following assumption:

People are uneducated idiots

And therefore:

Everything must be regulated, and we have to protect people from their own stupidity.

I find it annoying. When I'm active in my various hobbies, I'm often asked "Hey....is that safe?" I usually reply "Of course not. Nothing worth my time is safe"

And as for vaping, I just don't see what's so bloody dangerous.

Ever ride a motorcycle? Ever used power tools? Ever jacked up your car and crawled under it? Ever wired a new electrical outlet in your house? Ever gone snowboarding? Skateboarding? Roller blading? Have you ever cleaned anything with solvents, or handled toxic substances like anti-freeze or brake fluid? Ever lit a gas BBQ? Eaten peanuts? Crossed the street? Had a few drinks? Changed a light bulb?

All these things, both practically and statistically, are WAY more dangerous than vaping. Considering how many idiots are vaping, the numbers of injuries and deaths caused by it are absolutely insignificant. More people die each year from eating peanuts.

Yet it continues to spark debate after debate after debate.

I find it ironic how much Americans tout their freedom, then spout about how cloud chasing is ruining it for everyone, and we should all cower under the FDA and behave otherwise they might not let us do it.

Come. On.

im more cowering under the fear that these idiots you talk about, will cause my budget in vaping to increase sooner than later. regulating this new 'alternate tobacco product is already a hot debate, and id rather these guys not give the opposition more ammunition to use against us. If regulating tobacco and increasing costs would never happen, ask me again if I gave a .... if people hurt themselves. The answer is no, they do what they want and have to live with the consequences, what im debating is these misinformed uneducated people doing what they want not only affects themselves, but it affects the community as a whole regardless of their stance. There are consequences to everything, and if those consequences of uneducated users of mods blowing themselves up and only causing themselves bodily harm, im all for it, but if it might affect me personally then id rather them not to it in the first place and would not support any event that would allow them to do so.

Come. On.

I knew this was coming.

Someone just had to scream "FREEDOOOM" Braveheart style. "Rules are bad because..... FREEEEDOOOMM!"

Whatever man!

Every sports has rules.... Do you climb on your high horse every time a player gets a penality because "FREEEDOOOMMMM!"?
