And I wonder why they are donating more to the dems than to the repubs. Maybe they figure the dems need more money because they are a harder lift. Or maybe they think it's not worth throwing money at the repubs because they have already been bought up by BT and BP.

Giving Money and Lobbying the party that is in Power is about (is) as Old as Politics Itself.

But that really Isn't a Battery Related Issue. So Maybe we should start a New Thread to Talk about it?

Everyone is appalled that Juul is hiring lobbyists to influence the politicians. That definitely shouldn't be allowed. Yeah right.

Well, being from Indiana you should already be aware that Mike Pence passed some of the worse e-cig regulations while he was governor which put many vape shops out of business in your state. We know whose side he's on.

It is interesting to question why they specifically named e-cigarettes as a major risk factor. I don't have the answer, unless they see some vapers pushing the limits of the batteries' specifications beyond their safe limits, therefore carrying a higher risk of danger. Ie mechanical mods using sub-ohm coils.
They don’t want their names associated with such a deviant habit.

Sony and LG have both sent warning letters to numerous battery suppliers not to sell their batteries for use outside of the their protective battery packs, and specifically identified their use for e-cigarettes. Some suppliers have complied with those wishes.

    [snip]

The FDA has worked with Underwriters Laboratories in a study concerning safer use of lithium batteries in e-cigarette devices. UL concluded that removeable lithium batteries carried increased user risks and recommended the use of non-removeable internal battery mods. I don't believe the FDA has the power to restrict the sale of removeable batteries, but they do have the power to restrict the sale of mods which use removeable batteries. FEMA might have the power to restrict the sale of removeable lithium batteries for consumer use (see letter from Sony above).

Sorry, I meant more like governmental-related calls for heads-on-a-plate against lithium-ion batteries -- like "Lithium-free Kids" or something.

Lobbying could be significant for our cause. We've had people lobbying on behalf of vaping, but this appears to be happening on a more serious level, with money and professional lobbyists. Not much of that has happened before. I'm pretty sure Juul is the best financed US vaping company to date. It may be that they are lobbying on behalf of pods rather than vaping in general, meaning that success for Juul's efforts would not necessarily be good news for the rest of us. They might be telling politicians about the advantages of "safe" enclosed batteries, and sealed pods so juice couldn't leak out and poison children. Not to mention how much easier it would be to tax pods than to tax bottles and tanks. Especially if those dangerous open system vapes were removed from the marketplace. Maybe they aren't doing that, but why would they spend money to ease the way for the competition? Who knows.

I think the Open System ship sailed a Long Time ago. And what Little hope there was that the e-Cigarette Market could have some semblance of Normality was Quashed by this person.

But here we are. So at this point, hard as it is to say, I think I would Rather have BT in our corner. Verses No One at all.

I know that (to Many) it is kinda like having Stalin as a Ally. But there are still a Few issues still to be Ironed Out. Like Flavors, Net Sales, and Federal Taxes. On those Issues, BT and BV are aligned with what we Want.

So I'm Not sure just how much Worse it is going to be to have JUUL/BT throwing a bunch of Cash Around?

I have to say I kind of agree that BT/Vaping's interests are somewhat in alignment. They WERE competing but I think they have both become so scared of EACH being removed, they sort of banded together into this unholy alliance.

I see ZERO motivation for EITHER of them to lobby for ANYTHING other than cigarettes, and juuls. Not even other pods-- Juuls. Certainly not stuff owned and manufactured by the Chinese or any other foreign company.

Gather ye vapes while ye may and all that.

Well then I guess this shows how badly the FDA wants this issue to be true. Scrapping the bottom of the barrell to prove their point. Lol
    smh
Propaganda from the Fed to further a big business/big regulation cause? I don't see that as likely. Humans are nothing if not trustworthy.

Well, at the alternative vape shops here, including the ones you need a permit to enter, they are pushing the closed pod systems, both Coca-Cola and Pepsi.... But 510s still remain available.

When we told the kid we were buying land we told him he could build a house there, and he was like, "I might build a bunker."

    Kid's got the right idea.

The definition of guerilla warfare is sudden, violent action with as much possible damage inflicted when you have few resources, but you know the terrain. It is going to have to be that.

Beating the government, BT, and Juul with a full on frontal assault is just NOT going to be possible I don't think, no.

We are just all going to have to embrace our criminal side just like alcohol and prohibition until the government gives in. I'm down.

And, pod people, I'm sorry but you are going to need to stop buying pods and especially Juuls. I'm not saying this to be mean, you can return to them once Juul topples.

Yeah, but most folks here are too, uhm, frugal to spend that kind of money on a charger, and besides the dang thing is complicated; it works best connected to a PC. I'm not sure I want to be bothered with that, and I recently bought West Mountain Radio CBA. ;)

The West Mountain Radio analyzers look like very nice pro devices. I just needed a charger that would do everything I needed in one box.

I spent quite a bit of time recently looking for a charger that would do everything at once. 4 bays at once at 1A or better, internal resistance display, etc. I finally decided on the OPUS BT-3100 V2.2. It's a little pricey at $47.50 even on Amazon, but it's rated highly by most reviewers.

Before buying the OPUS I would have to use the LUC V4 for 1A charging across 4 bays and the Zanflare C4 for measuring internal resistance. The Nitecore i4 and most others went to .375A with all bays loaded, except for the LUC V4. The OPUS does everything I want in one box. If I need to charge more than four cells at once I can use two chargers, but that doesn't happen often.

I looked at that thing, never saw the price but saw how complex it was. I'd like to find a charger that could have an relatively easy method of "capping" a charge.

OPUS BT-C3100 has a termination voltage DIP switch that allows setting the termination voltage to 4.2v, 4.35v, and 3.7v. You have to remove the bottom cover (4 screws) and set the switch to your desired termination voltage. The switch is located directly below one of the air flow slots and some users cut the plastic on the slot to allow access without removing the cover.

There has been big money and professional lobbyists for both Big Tobacco and Big Pharma from the very beginning of the Deeming process. To the best of my knowledge, all the vaping community had was CASAA, a non-profit advocacy group for nicotine harm reduction to go against the big boys. To become a member was and is free (see the link in my sig), and members have always been encouraged to donate money for their lobbying efforts.

So at this point, hard as it is to say, I think I would Rather have BT in our corner. Verses No One at all.

Big Tobacco's interests has been split between two groups for quite some time. One group looked into the future and saw the fall in numbers of cigarette sales over the last several years and began to sell their versions of e-cigarettes (Blu, Vuse, etc). If you can't beat them, join them.

The other group considered all e-cigs to be the enemy, so their lobbyists pushed for tighter restrictions on e-cigs such as banning open systems and banning flavors other than tobacco and nicotine. This group doesn't have a fear of being removed by the government. The government depends too much on tobacco sin taxes, and what lawmaker is willing to ban the tobacco industry and put hundreds of thousands of farmers and businesses out of business?

Lawmakers finally figured out how much money they can add to the economy with government taxes by decriminalizing/legalizing hemp products which had been banned for what, 50 years?
