.... but that sounded vaguely optimistic, especially the part about vape industry jobs. Flavors didn’t sound like anything positive.... someone tell me if they took anything else out of it
What I took from Trump's comments were:

Vapers who called the White House and got on social media (Twitter) had a positive effect for our cause. I don't believe the administration had any idea how many vapers are so passionate about flavors and vaping in general. It was so unexpected that Congress questioned whether automated bots were being used.

Trump doesn't want to lose so many small businesses...and votes...to a flavor ban. People who lose their businesses to a flavor ban aren't likely to vote for him in the next election. I think the administration is trying to come up with a solution to preserve vape businesses yet come up with effective ways to limit youth vaping. Testamonies have all stated how important flavors other than tobacco and menthol are to vapers who have been able to stop smoking...at least 80% of those vapers use a flavor other than tobacco and menthol.

Hopefully people in the administration have learned that it has been primarily a few bad actors (Juul and Blu - Big Tobacco) who have promoted their products to the under-aged and who primarily sold their products to easily accessed gas stations and convenience stores, while the specialty vape shops do a much better job of age verification. I'm guardedly optimistic that some flavors will be acceptable if sold from a specialty vape shop.

And also, I hope the policy makers are now aware that the vaping illnesses and deaths can be attributed to unregulated black market THC vaping, something entirely different from regulated nicotine vaping.

Despite this glimmer of optimism, I want to emphasize this is no excuse to stop contacting the White House and other policy makers at this time. Keep hammering the phone lines and social media, especially Twitter.

We have seen time and again our leaders and politicians display a total ignorance about vaping...their risks and their benefits. I'm not sure that's even a priority for many of them. Who greases their palms, however, is.

Holly crap! I have never heard of vitamin E acetate in e-cigarettes. Has anybody ever heard of this? And why when PG and VG are much cheaper — and water soluble? The continual conflagration by the CDC is looking to be less and less like basic ignorance — and more and more a deliberate act.

CDC makes 'breakthrough' on vaping crisis, names vitamin E oil as potential culprit
The CDC described it as a “known additive” that has been known to be used on the black market to “dilute” or thicken the liquid in e-cigarette or THC vaping products.

Id laugh if it hadnt caused "us" so much damage.
40 dead, nothing to laugh about.
Damage to Nic Vaping and the opportunity to enact a flash flood of bans, nothing to laugh about.
Permanent damage in the court of public opinion, nothing to laugh about.
And all the poor smucks who will never find this solution and die from tobacco use because of the previous 2 points, well .............

I'd wager many of us put unknown things in our bodies when we were young without regard to the risks. Perhaps we should feel fortunate we did not meet the same fate as these 40 young people.

Thank you, boo. I have a headache I can’t get rid of today. It’s cutting into my comprehension skills lol. As usual, I expect them to waffle about until next week. Who knows if they’ll even make a decision by then either.

Because our friend Joe's diatribe about what a Huge Waste of Time having the FDA Regulate Tobacco is Priceless.

And this tidbit from @kristin 's heads up post today in the CASAA forum:
November 8, 2019
(via CASAA Twitter @CASAAMedia)

(snip)
IN THE NEWS: (CALIFORNIA) Some communities are (wisely) deciding to nix bans on sales of e-cigarettes for the time being.

“I don’t think government is the answer to the problem."
--Kern County Supervisor Mick Gleason (snip)

Go California!

BTW, the rest of her post is very informative, as always.

For those who'd rather read... :)

Top Trump official questions FDA tobacco oversight as vaping ban looms

President Trump’s top policy official said he thinks the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is wasting its time by regulating tobacco products.

Joe Grogan, the head of the White House Domestic Policy Council, told reporters on Friday that the FDA would be better off focusing its efforts on approving drugs that help people, rather than tobacco, which has “no redeeming qualities.”

“On a personal level, I hate tobacco issues, I always have, and FDA shouldn't be regulating this stuff in the first place,” Grogan said, before adding that he has never spoken to Trump about the issue, and it was just his personal opinion.

Grogan called the FDA’s efforts on tobacco regulation a “huge waste of time” and said the agency has been “sucked in the mud” dealing with tobacco rather than approving more drugs or focusing on serious illnesses.

“FDA regulates drugs, which help people … it regulates devices, which help people. Tobacco has no redeeming qualities” and should not be regulated by a health agency, Grogan added.

Vaping industry groups, as well as some of Trump’s political allies and campaign officials, have been urging the president to exempt mint and menthol flavors, as well as carve out vape shops from flavor restrictions.

They argue that removing all flavors from the market will lead to people losing jobs, and could drive people back to smoking traditional cigarettes. Industry groups broadly support raising the purchase age to 21.
