Oh, and for those who don't remember Ruyan--or know nothing about it--enjoy! ;)

Interesting; I've never seen that before. One thing that's quite remarkable is the complete lack of visible vapor coming from those devices. That's a huge plus as far as bystanders are concerned, but probably a strong negative for the users themselves.

I remember that ad; the one I saw years ago was in German--no English translation.

And yes--no vapor to speak of. The very early ones were almost vaporless. What was your first device?

I had to hunt down Truesmoker/Krakkan’s (sic?) posts to figure out when I started. So, 2009 (later than I thought) from him. I thought he was before Njoy in the mall kiosks. He lived close, so we would meet at the Walgreens parking lot (nothing sketchy sounding there lol!). Seems like he had cig colored ones before the black with different color leds on the end. My favorite was the last one, the Phoenix (black with a magenta dragon and a nifty case). I remember Johnsons Creek starting, because it was the first USA made juice I found (yay, no more iffy China yuck juice). I thought they came out in @2008??? Clearly, I can’t trust my memory... I do know the last stinky was 3/26/12.

I started with Johnson’s Creek. In time I determined they were ridiculously expensive and their flavors absolutely horrible. :)

And, now you understand why I’ve been hesitant about NETs. They destroyed the thought of tobacco for me. It tasted like leafy dirt they tried to mask with mint or fruit or something.

I forgot about that one! Here, the kiosks were selling Smoking Everywhere--everywhere. Mostly shopping malls. Don't remember exactly when, but it was all much later than 2007. I got my first kit online--GreenSmoke--in November 2009.

I found juice I liked more than JC. After several months I decided to try my old JC again. OMG, I could not understand how I ever vaped that stuff. I remember doing a blend of TN Cured and Silverthorn. I was such a dweeb!

I know I ordered online before Truesmoker, but date? No idea. He was convenient because I could email him, and meet around the corner to pick it up. Somehow it seemed safer buying from an actual person. Heaven knows what was in the juice in those little end caps. I thought I was set when he got tiny bottles of juice so they could be refilled. Ah, memories from the dark, cobwebbed corners of my mind. Even a mediocre pod today beats the pants off what we started with!

I think that is the Cruelest Penalty of the Deeming of e-Cigarettes.

Because a Year from now, when the Market is Reduced down to a handful of PMTA-ed setups, some Smoker desperate to quit is going to buy One. And after a Day or Two they are going to say...

"Man. I thought an e-Cigarette would be Better than this? And they Aren't even Cheaper than Smoking."

I have been rather a downer in my attitude for a while now on how this is all going, but part of me clings to the fact that the tech has advanced, it's out there, and it's not really all that complicated.
The FDA is fighting a war they cannot , in the end win, they are an absolute poor fit for regulating a product category such as "tobacco"... and they have "deemed" non tobacco products (vaping) as tobacco, and people are very resourceful when it comes to the actual free market, ie a need or want being met by a source for said need or want.

This whole EVALI or vape related lung damage issue might actually play into our hands in the long game, much similar to bad moonshine injuries and deaths did to alcohol prohibition. I feel it might get ugly for a bit before the dust settles and cooler heads get more airtime in the public arena. We are in weird times...

We are indeed in weird times. I’m hesitant to believe there may be cooler heads in Washington, as most are filled with copious amounts of hot air!

What was your first device?
Halo Triton eGo-style starter kit with a tobacco flavored juice sampler kit. That stuff got me from 40+ a day to one a day in four days in mid December of 2013. On day five I drove an hour though a snow storm to what was then the closest B&M, where I upgraded to some bigger "spinner" type batteries, Pro Tanks, and some non-tobacco juices. Boom -- I stopped smoking.

I think that was a prime time for it. The available gear was decent by then, much due to the trials and perseverance of the fine folks here on ECF in the preceding four or five years.

The early gear was flat out cruddy. It took me several years of going back and forth before the gear caught up to what actually worked for me.

I was looking for something in the timeline of vaping, and came across this. Struck me how it parallels a bit the mess we’re facing ten years later.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose...

After ten years, we're back to square one. But I'm with Enaud--I too believe that, in the words of Winston Churchill, "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else." Maybe I'm being Pollyannish, but that's all I have left.

After a black market kills scores of people and the politicians finally figure out they can make the govt a bundle of dough on vaping that cannot be made up with cigarettes.

I gave you an "agree" rating only because there's no "it's so sad" icon...

I had that with Halo's Tribeca. I still think it was one of the best tasting juices I ever had. I might have to whip up my clone of it one of these days and see if I still like that sort of flavor as I don't vape anything close and can't remember the last time I used a Ry4 in anything.
