that's awesome...when I was delivering for fedex there was a "Glory Hole" street in Winnemucca, NV. They could never keep a street sign on it either

Off of SR33 in Central California (near the stretch where James Dean was killed) there is a turn off for "Brown Material Road." I wonder how often that sign gets stolen?

I'm going to be honest here. I can take maybe 3-1/2 minutes of this guy before needing a sedative. Thankfully, he kept this video to 3:28 so I'm good. He gets jacked up and while I can't deal with him on his reviews it wears a whole lot better on this subject matter and is, therefore, useful to watch. Somebody probably posted it before but it can't hurt to post again.

This is the first I've heard of cigars or pipes being harm reducing. Most of the people I know who smoke them don't smoke on a daily basis though so I could see it. I'll have to look into it, just curious about it.
Long been known for that, but they didn't use the term "harm reduction", back then. Chewing tobacco, too, until it started getting lied about.

And, this is the other side of the community- the one that actually has a chance of saving it.

One change I'd make to your tactic, Bear, is to change up the way you talk about the nic levels. Don't leave it to interpretation why the 0mg exists.

Make it the GOAL.

The nic levels are scientifically derived, proven milestones by which the hopelessly addicted smoker can claw themselves free of tobacco, rung by bitter rung.

We're addicts. This is our methadone.

We desperately want to be free.

Won't you please help us?

Yes, a good point, GunMonkey.

Something else to maybe point out (or maybe not, but..) is that re the Nicotine Patch system, it starts out at 24mg nic delivered over a 24-hr period and the Patches last 2 weeks. I vape less than that (18mg) over roughly a 16-hr period. That Patch then goes to Step 2 Patches at 14mg nic over 24-hrs and etc. The last drop (Step 3 Patches) is to 7mg nic over 24-hrs. So even coming off the Patch leaves you with a 7mg nic "monkey on your back" if you are trying to quit nicotine altogether.

Blowing out the smoke was the thing I most liked about cigarettes -- and vaping lets me blow out a steam equivalent without the harm of cigarettes and with a taste that leaves cigarettes so far behind that there are no words for it.

I've never been a "cloud-chaser" but can see where that can be fun for some people, emulating a steamboat (Mark Twain probably would have done it).

Interesting, this is the response I received from Ms Murray

Fri 6:55 AM

Dear Ms.

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2058, FDA Deeming Authority Clarification Act of 2015, which is currently pending in the United States House of Representatives. I appreciate knowing your views on this matter.

In the Senate, this legislation would fall under the jurisdiction of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. While I am not a member of that Committee, I want to assure you that I will be following the progress of this bill and will keep your views in mind if this or related legislation comes before the full Senate for consideration.

If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please feel free to sign up for my weekly updates athttp://murray.senate.gov/updates.Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me.

Anybody familiar with my posting history knows I hate what you just said.

Yeah, I'm the guy that hated the last thing you said too, although I had to agree with it.
And yeah, once again I hate what you said above, but kind of agree.

But what I personally believe very strongly is that some nicotine is GOOD for you.
Better, probably than NOT having any.

Having said that, you are correct that painting such a picture is our best bet.
Better than trying to convince the world of the real truth about nicotine.

But in the long run, my goal is and will always be to change the view of nicotine.
And I'm pretty sure my goal, unfortunately, coincides with the long term goals of Big Pharma.

I hate that too.

Found this interesting, as well as the fact that the subject has been dropped.

I thought it magic too - smoked for 45 years, up to 36 per day the final two years, yet in two weeks I stopped, and hadn't even intended to ....just meant to try and cut down, or have something for when I couldn't smoke! Yes, magic :)

Sounds like me, except that I wasn't intending to quit. I liked smoking and just got an ecig to play with, I thought they were a gimmick, but after trying one I was amazed. I never had another cigarette. That was almost 4 years ago.

Well, if he accomplishes nothing else with that video, at least he got me wide awake when I was about to decide to take a nap.

I like it, and will be viewing it, regularly. I've seen a few of his reviews, but he never reviews gear old enough to resemble anything I use.

I'm gonna watch it speeded up next time, for extra urgency effect. I do that by downloading the low quality option from the UnPlug plugin for firefox, and play it back using vlc media player (freeware). If anyone tries it, I suggest going no faster than 1.7x speed for that video. Any faster might burn holes in your speakers and/or ears.

I think they are as long as they are in any way or can be connected in any way to vaping...correct me if i'm wrong please.

There is a section in the regs specifically addressing "accessories," they use ashtrays as an example. You might want to use "parts" and/or "components" instead, since that is the language the FDA is using.

ETA: I was very late on this one.

...
If you were a public smoker any time in the last ten years, you've no doubt been outside a business smoking, dozens of feet away from anyone passing by, and had some self-righteous twit cough and wave their hand in front of their nose to dispel the imaginary smoke. I've even had people say "what's wrong with you? I'm asthmatic!"...when I was 30 feet away.

**Entertainment Break** Old and somewhat o/t, but I love this video.

I'm a 20+ year veteran of the firearms industry- actually in the industry, not just an enthusiast. This is not my first rodeo.

If you've never seen it, find a copy of "Thank You for Smoking". You'll probably have to look in the comedy section, but it's actually a documentary.

hmmm....
Interesting history from that :
niacin

"pellagra-preventing vitamin in enriched bread," 1942, coined from ni(cotinic) ac(id) + -in, chemical suffix; suggested by the American Medical Association as a more commercially viable name than nicotinic acid.

( Expanded )

"The new name was found to be necessary because some anti-tobacco groups warned against enriched bread because it would foster the cigarette habit." ["Cooperative Consumer," Feb. 28, 1942]
the definition of niacin

"Niacin was first discovered from the oxidation of nicotine to form nicotinic acid. When the properties of nicotinic acid were discovered, it was thought prudent to choose a name to dissociate it from nicotine, in order to avoid the perception that vitamins or niacin-rich food contains nicotine. The resulting name 'niacin' was derived from nicotinic acid + vitamin."

"Niacin is also referred to as Vitamin B3 because it was the third of the B vitamins to be discovered. It has historically been referred to as "vitamin PP", a name derived from the term "pellagra-preventing factor".

I actually agree with you, that we need to get a good public image out there.

I actually don't know what our general public image is, other than vaping is BT version 2.0. Most of the public doesn't even know that cloud competitions exist.

What we need is this, but of vapers:

What about something like the old Lucky Strikes commercial: I'd rather fight than switch!

I think that's not the case. But I used to think it is, and then didn't and then...I can't remember. Basing this on ecf discussions about it, which come up from time to time.

Yes, it's Wikipedia, but it's cited:

"Propylene glycol is also used in various edible items such as coffee-based drinks, liquid sweeteners, ice cream, whipped dairy products and soda. Vaporizers used for delivery of pharmaceuticals or personal-care products often include propylene glycol among the ingredients.Propylene glycol is used as a solvent in many pharmaceuticals, including oral, injectable and topical formulations, such as for diazepam and lorazepam which are insoluble in water."
