Evidently nicnik didn't :- )

Yeah but I remember someone Telling Me one time that a Closely held Majority is Only Good if the Majority Holders ALL Vote down Party Lines.

And then there is that Pesky Veto thing.

And the Veto thing is sometimes what will bring out the "C" Word.

Again, the Republicans control the Senate - a straight up party vote would win in the Senate. What wouldn't win there, is overriding a presidential veto.
Kent, I believe amendments to appropriation bills are subject to filibuster so it would need 60 votes to defeat a filibuster for it to be brought to a floor vote. If all 54 GOP senators voted in favor of the amendment (and we see one GOP committee member already voted against it), that means we would need at least six Democrats for cloture.

I've always said - with a Prez veto - it's a no go. 54 in the Senate is a pretty good number for a few fallouts. 67 is needed to override a veto.

You don't think Senate Dems would filibuster? I think they would if it were today.

It might make it through committee in the Senate, but there aren't any signs of even the few Democrats needed to prevent a filibuster on the floor.

If it makes it to the President's desk, he may be very hesitant to have the world see so clearly, that he killed vaping. He can't be so ignorant as to not see that it could end up looking really, really bad as part of his legacy.

Obama signed the death sentence of millions of smokers. Something like that.

Then the question is would Obama veto an appropriations bill over the Deeming regs. If he did, at least we'd get some exposure.

That one committee member that voted against is in the House, not the Senate. Of course you're right on cloture vote on a filibuster. - a bridge to cross later perhaps :- )

But isn't this Also why you do a 14 Month Negative Propaganda Campaign against something?

So when the Time Comes, you can look like the Hero in the Eyes of the Mis-Informed Populous.

I expect it. Even more than a veto by the Prez. Although that's not out of the question.

Perhaps we should have taken up Reid's (D NV) 'nuclear option' a few years back - simple majority for cloture. :- )

I don't think they care about a legacy because they will make one side or the other say bad things about them, no win for them. Politicians tend to do weird things when about to leave office for that reason. I could not even predict what Obama would do but he was a smoker so I dunno.

We'd certainly know more than we do now, if that's such a high priority for him. And people - Dems and Republican vapers wouldn't take kindly to it. He may very well 'mask' it by citing other 'issues' in the Appropriations bill but again, so far the only spending he's vetoed is Military.

Any of today's anti-vaping "heroes", will be some of the most despised creatures of the future.

The nearer that future, the better. Many of them are hoping that future can be delayed, at least until they themselves are dead.

So... I'm still writing my dem representatives, often, even if they won't listen, because they're the ones in office now.

Yeah me too  One is Sherrod Brown (FDA letter writer) and my Rep. Marcy Kaptur voted against the Cole/Bishop amendment in Appropriations - also was a 'progressive caucus' member with Bernie...

I forgot about it being part of the appropriations bill. I really can't see Obama vetoing.

Sure is a Lot Hanging in the Balance on this one.

Someone told me the Other Night that they would take a guaranteed Mid-2014 Grandfather Date in a Heartbeat over the Chance of a 2016 Date.
