They just won't let you be, oh no!

There are certain groups of people who will never be satisfied until you live as they live or, if not as they live, you live as they think you should live. They are arrogant beyond comprehension. They will destroy all thoughts or behaviors that they disagree with and they will destroy those people who hold those thoughts or engage in behaviors with which they disagree.

What irony....we have come full circle now. They are using Harry Anslingers playbook against vaping instead of "other stuff". Here is a bit I did a few years ago where I replaced "other stuff" with "vaping" and a few subtle changes that do not change the processes used to show the similarities.

Anslinger received, as head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, an increase of reports about vaping in 1936 that continued to spread at an accelerated pace in 1937. Before, vaping had been relatively slight and confined to a minority. The bureau launched two important steps. First, the Bureau prepared a legislative plan to seek from Congress a new law that would place vaping and its distribution directly under federal control. Second, Anslinger ran a campaign against vaping on radio and at major forums.

Some of his critics allege that Anslinger and the campaign against vaping had a hidden agenda: The E. I. DuPont De Nemours And Company industrial firm, petrochemical interests, and William Randolph Hearst together created the highly sensational anti-vaping campaign to eliminate vaping as an industrial competitor. The DuPont Company and many industrial historians subsequently disputed any link between development of nylon and vaping. Anslinger did not himself consider vaping a serious threat to American society until in the fourth year of his tenure (1934), at which point an anti-vaping campaign, aimed at alarming the public, became his primary focus as part of the government's broader push to outlaw all tobacco. Members of the League of Nations had already implemented restrictions for vaping in the beginning of the 1930s and restrictions started in many states in the U.S years before Anslinger was appointed. Both presidentFranklin D. Roosevelt and his attorney general publicly supported this development in 1935.

By using the mass media as his forum (receiving much support from Hearst), Anslinger propelled the anti-vaping sentiment from the state level to a national movement. Writing for The American Magazine, the best examples were contained in his "Gore File," a collection of quotes from police reports, by later opponents described as police-blotter-type narratives of heinous cases, most with no substantiation, linking graphically depicted offenses with the drug. Anslinger sometimes used the very brief and concise language in many police reports when he wrote about vaping.

“By the tons it is coming into this country — the deadly, dreadful poison that racks and tears not only the body, but the very heart and soul of every human being who once becomes a slave to it in any of its cruel and devastating forms.... Vaping is a short cut to the insane asylum. Vape for a month and what was once your brain will be nothing but a storehouse of horrid specters."

Things could be worse. They could make me live in San Francisco. If I was given a choice to live in San Fran or Pyongyang I'd at least have to hesitate for a few seconds to think about it.

You will find the same kind of controlling people in the Tar Heel state as I do in the Bluegrass. They won't send you to San Fran, they will bring San Fran to you.

Prohibition reminds us of a quote from famed U.S. intellectual John Stuart Mill in the 1800s. In his treatise On Liberty, Mill wrote, "That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.”

I have two words for people like that.

I will leave the exact phrase to your imagination.

Benjamin Franklin's words come to mind.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety

It will be interesting to see if they go after all the added flavours in cigarettes .
Can't see that happening .

It will come, the plan for control is incremental in nature, step by step. Grab some power over the behavior of others. Then go for more. The frog is in the water, the heat is rising but when do we say, "Enough"?

Ah yes, the age-old question: "Is it time yet?"

"all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves"

The problem as an individual frog isn't determining when it is time, the problem lies in convincing enough frogs that they too are in the pot in order to start a revolt.

It starts with one. Waiting for a consensus so all will jump together will result in a group of frogs looking for a leader.

Lolly pops, brownies, cookies, gummy bears, candy bars (even with similar regular candy bar names and similar logos)

I'm around some in the medicinal crowd and some of the stuff makes me SMH as much as some of the e-liquid packaging does.

Although the propagandists are different they're still willing to lie through their teeth while ignoring valid complaints. I think it was this state a cop took a picture of a Japanese candy claiming it was someone handing out other stuff for Halloween.

Stoners are exempt from this BS, they pay enough tax.

Bingo!
If vapers had begged to be taxed at 300% like cigarettes are they would've welcomed us with open arms.

I'm still reeling from my own (scientifically backgrounded mom) telling me her first morning how UNSAFE vaping was. LOL, I asked her to "produce facts" (she could not seem to) and then gave her a thorough education to the point that she reluctantly agreed with me that I wished I had started vaping, not smoking, and that "high risk" teens should get to vape.

Good to know she still considers me a "high risk" teen. LOL It was actually the more pleasant part of our conversation, she then moved on to Ketamine and asking me all about how it worked for "depression, bipolar, schizophrenia" and then I told her what I knew and ended up (after I started looking up the specific answers to her questions) being told to stop because it was "too much information."

LOL.

I do know she only listens to liberal media. .I know it for a fact. And yes, I guess it's hard to parse out "science" when you are unfamiliar with the terms, but you should STILL be looking for a study's methodology EVEN when you don't know much about the subject.

I despair. I went and had a long, melancholy look at the flavors and nic I have, and still thought, "Six more days of this." LOL.

She went out, the husband and I are recuperating.

My sister is a pawn of the media. I used to spend long times on the phone with her to get everything corrected. A short while later she'd come back with the same crap. At least have the sense to realize there is another side that they're not telling you and look for balance.
What's funny is she is anti-tobacco and pushes vaping harder than I do. If she doesn't buy into what they say about vaping why does she buy into everything else?

Amusingly, the kid (also a pawn of the media) was busy texting my husband with "OMG OH NO" something to do with asbestos.

They're both going to come here for dinner, and they reinforce each other. LOLZ. Gosh man, I gotta say, well uh, lets hope....

Worst case? Duct tape. For me, my mouth, etc. It's so USEFUL. Hehe.
