I'm trying to find another section of the economy where its members are able to vote themselves a pay raise, or their own medical benefits, or their own pension benefits, or their own exclusion from rules which apply to the rest of us. HaHa. No luck finding it.
Do they read the bills they pass? Since all the major bills are hundreds if not thousands of pages long, are you kidding me. Pelosi herself admitted that we'd know what was included in the (I think it was, but may have forgotten) medical care bill when they passed it. What a joke it's all become. And not a funny one either. Would I seek out such a "job"? No, or I would have already. Would I accept it, if my peers nominated me? Sure. Hard? Yep. But, I will not betray my family (small nor large, if you know what I mean) to pad my bank account. Make a fair profit is fine. Rip off everyone else? Nope.
