A large segment of our population are media pawns. They believe everything they read or hear in the news. Additionally, they don't contemplate issues that the media doesn't cover (for their own ideological reasons...i.e, Media doesn't report news, they select news). The media pawns are robots and you cannot convince them there is any other perspective other than what they hear. The media has way too much power. Thankfully, we are seeing an increasingly larger number of Americans who are on to them. But it remains the media is still very powerful.

As I posted elsewhere, I'm in Rome for a month or so. They're quite free here about vaping. You can do it in most places, including the airport, even though cigs are not allowed in similar places. The Italian government passed a law which imposed fairly high tax on ejuices. So, go into a vape shop and you'll see very few premixed eliquids. But, you'll find a ton of flavor extract combinations, and then they'll be happy to sell you the base in various %'s.

My mom believes everything she hears through the media. I love her, but it's exhausting sometimes trying to present the other sides to stuff. I eventually just give up and go "Yeah, mom, sure, whatever..." almost feel like I'm a stupid teenager again. Thank the good Lord I don't have to live with her anymore.

I have said it many times, if CNN were to announce that Volkswagons were made of sugar and lollipops and built by Umpalumpas that at least 50% of the population would believe it. Many of them would go so far as to tell their friends that they actually ate one, as proof the story was true.

That's about where I am with my sister. Except I throw in "You'll have to kill me to do that. I'm not living under that kind of rule."

Amusingly, the kid (also a pawn of the media) was busy texting my husband with "OMG OH NO" something to do with asbestos.

They're both going to come here for dinner, and they reinforce each other. LOLZ. Gosh man, I gotta say, well uh, lets hope....

Worst case? Duct tape. For me, my mouth, etc. It's so USEFUL. Hehe.

This was an interesting read.

I sent it to several friends and family members, none of them vape, and only three of them ever smoked.

After reading it, even these “outsiders” to our “cause” were able to clearly see the correlation between the money and the anti-vape laws.

I just don’t understand why more people can’t see it this plainly.

I believe it's the individual states, not feds, that floated their own bonds. Quite a few did. Some didn't. Also someone correct me if I'm wrong, I seem to remember that the states cannot stop payment on these bonds and would have to use money out of their general revenues.

This is Correct.

Something the above linked Article does a Poor, if not a Misleading, job of Explaining.

Texas didn't participate in the tobacco settlement and thus has no bond issues. So, the eliquid law Texas passed was common sense, age limit, warning label, and packaging requirements. Not the draconian nonsense these other places are passing.

I've said it before, and I will say it again, Texas has to be the sanest place in the US. It has my favorite (personally, I don't know that he was really cut out for the job, I think based on every time I see him, that it was really more of a familial demand) president in it, W!!!

LOL, W reminds me of my dad. Just looking around with a bemused stare hiding his Deep Thoughts, then striking like a viper. LOL. I really do have an unreasoning joy for both W and Texas.

Of course, my dad was the "sane" person in the household, growing up. And Texas is arguably the sanest state in the union. If anyone should be "seceding" it's Texas. Although, since they don't actually NEED that much from the Feds other than "leave me alone, please" well.... Perhaps that is why they don't need to secede or even threaten it. LOL.

Texas was the sixth state to sue Big Tobacco. Mississippi, Minnesota, Florida, West Virginia and Louisiana had filed cases already. The settlement forced tobacco companies to pay more than $17 billion. Texas' settlement is the largest settlement of a single case in U.S. history.May 2, 2016

In 1996, Texas filed a federal lawsuit accusing the tobacco industry of violating conspiracy, racketeering, consumer protection, and other provisions of state and federal law. The state sought to recover billions of tax dollars it had spent to treat tobacco-related illnesses. In settling the lawsuit, the industry agreed to pay the state $15 billion over 25 years and to pay about $2.3 billion through 2003 to Texas counties and hospital districts based on their provision of indigent health care.

Right, Texas filed an individual suit, thus was not part of the Class Action the other states were part of. They got a better deal for the trouble. Also part of the article you missed was that Texas, instead of trying to cash in immediately with bonds like CA, NY, and some other states, played it smart and "created sources of ongoing program funding out of interest earnings". So we invested the money to use the interest forever, while the other states, sold bonds to get the cash fast and are the ones paying the interest. This is why Texas isn't struggling with tobacco sales declines and able to pass reasonable vaping laws.

Proof, it's always better to have interest working for you than against you.

I took a look around to see how Indiana handled this. Couldn't figure out whether we borrowed against the future payments but I found a bunch of other confusing information.

Apparently around 40 tobacco companies that weren't part of the original Master Settlement have joined the club since and agreed to help with the payments. No idea what their motive would be to do that. And there was an appeal from the participating tobacco companies to reduce the payments from 123M to 68M due to the State's lack of diligence in taking action against tobacco companies that weren't participating, Indiana was hit with that along with several other States. Indiana went to arbitration over it but then settled before the completion of arbitration, for an amount less than the original amount but more than the reduced amount the tobacco companies were seeking.

The settlement appears to have a lot more moving parts than I was aware of, and I didn't understand most of it. Not interested enough to dig deeper though.

Maybe they only get the protection if they sign on.

I really can/cannot believe what I just saw.

National TV station plays an anti-vaping commercial, from the CA Dept. of Health!!!!

The commercial actually SHOWS a young girl using a JUUL.

She goes on to rave about the flavor.

Like we really need more proof to show that the government(s) are the only organizations that are actually advertising to kids???

The commercial ends with the newest version of StillBlowingSmoke.org...

That website is called...(brace yourselves):

FLAVORSHOOKKIDS.ORG

I have not visited the anti-vaping website, as I don’t want to give it the traffic.

I did, however, Google search it (so probably just as bad).

The CA Dept. of Health has a little blurb about the site, with an active link.

Here’s THAT website:
https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CCDPHP/DCDIC/CTCB/Pages/FlavorsHookKidsCampaign.aspx

On this website, the new concept of “pod mods” is directly attacked, with a statement that says:
5f118822f95bb7986cef0d92ba919523.png

Read the section underlined in red(ish):
d8d95a27a48ea1f591668ba61687ee6c.png

“The devices are disguised...”

DISGUISED!!!!

AS IF!!!!

Double-yew-Tee-Eff?!?!?!!!???????

G0D D@MN IT!

THIS SH|T IS SO INFURIATING.

How far is this desperate, failing, corrupt, socialist/communist, liberal, anti-People, anti-Health, anti-American state willing to go?

When you boil it down this has little to do with vaping and a lot more to do with them wanting to control our lives. They'll tell you they aren't socialists and if they're not socialists it's only because they are resisted. Given a chance, they would not hesitate dictating every aspect of our lives. They crave the power.
