I am sure that some here remember from their days of conjugating Latin verbs that "anecdotal" is Latin for "I can't refute what you say so I'll disparage and then ignore it".
LOL. Well said! I just love it (that is to say, I hate it) when you get someone with credentials who says something totally without any foundation in fact, but makes it sound like fact because he has credentials.
Pathetic.

What some call 'anecdotal', I call 'first person research'.

And possibly Greek roots. (anecdotally speaking of course)

anecdote (n.)
1670s, "secret or private stories," from French anecdote (17c.) or directly from Medieval Latin anecdota, from Greek anekdota "things unpublished," neuter plural of anekdotos, from an- "not" (see an- (1)) + ekdotos "published," from ek- "out" (see ex-) + didonai "to give" (from PIE root *do- "to give").

Procopius' 6c. Anecdota, unpublished memoirs of Emperor Justinian full of court gossip, gave the word a sense of "revelation of secrets," which decayed in English to "brief, amusing story" (1761).

I wish I knew someone that was actually scared of third-hand smoke, I'd totally freak them out by showing how their new furniture was exposing them to formaldehyde.

And new drywall and new carpeting. That stuff will kill you.

Or apparently new cat trees... Himself put one together for our “certified pre-owned-cat” that I will pick up when I get home. Instructions say to let it “air out” OUTSIDE for 3-5 days before bringing inside for safety. WTF??? All he had to do was screw it together. Seems like it should come pre ventilated, just saying ;)

You know the difference between a cat and a dog?

A dog sees you open doors for it, give it food and water and love in general, and thinks to itself, "That two legger must be a god!"

A cat sees you do those things and it thinks, "I must be a god."..
