The more studies that come out showing vaping to be successful to stopping smoking and long term harm reduction becomes more apparent the tougher it will be to pass nonsense like this, outside of taxes. They'll always pass taxes. What politician ever saw a tax they didn't like?

The problem is that the "masses" will probably never see these studies, they only see the garbage on FB that says ecigs are worse than smoking, contain more tar than cigs, are deadlier than ebola, and thus are going to "vote" for banning/restricting them.

I dunno....

A few years back I strongly lobbied HR not to ban vaping on company property, like they did tobacco. He listened, skeptically, but at the end of the day he saw it as a "potential" opportunity to reduce healthcare costs as we are self-insured.

My HR Manager saw the article in the NY Times today and sent it to me (not knowing I saw it yesterday). Having him see this article on his own in a major news publication, vs me spoon feeding him vape positive studies (from an obviously biased POV), really helps him look at this more objectively.

Actually, this study is being discussed on TV as we speak: "surprising good news about e-cigarettes." :)

Watch for them to throw digs and unrelated negatives in too. They can't be too positive, ya know. That would be counter the "The message" (TM).

I watched the whole segment. Nothing negative. Just an honest report.

But, of course, the reporter couldn't help but to say nicotine is an addictive substance (at the end). Just had to get that in there. :)

Baby steps, Bronze, baby steps. We can deal with nicotine myths later.

For now, I'm just happy that they are all reporting that e-cigarettes are twice as effective for smoking cessation as nicotine-replacement therapy and far less toxic than cigarettes. And NRT also contains nicotine. ;)

Note the study was published by a US journal, but the actual study was accomplished by a British team.
At least the NEW England Journal of Medicine found it credible, but apparently no effort on their own part.
Amazing how the UK stays way ahead on this issue.
Because smoking costs their govt run healthcare an enormous amount of money.

Sooo, they're using logic? Novel idea.

Actually, very astute of you Bronze. What @Philabos said regarding UK staying ahead has crossed my mind a number of times, and I never thought it through. I did think it odd that UK was virtually embracing vaping compared to US...how England, no stranger to taxes and no fear of leading the world in nanny-state regulation was so far ahead of us in this regard. Until you posted that, that reason hadn't occurred to me. Makes a ton of sense.
