The best guess for the future is that we're going to end up with PMTA'd products and 'grey market' products. Ie. the same products we use now, but sold as 'not for use with nicotine' in the same way that the alternatives market grew up saying they were only for use with tobacco.

That's wild isn't it?

Honest Officer, I only use that thing for <censored>, I swear there's no nic in it.

I mentioned that to my gf a few weeks back walking into a grocery store and seeing a number of magazines dedicated to said “other things” and how that flies (for the most part) and now nicotine/vaping is under fire.

Just further evidence I woke up into an alternate dimension somewhere back if you ask me.

A sad truth to how willy nilly laws are and how they require absolutely no relation to truth. So goes the world, as my grandpap would say.

:offtopic: Brief interruption in regular on-topic posts.

Updated 11AM info. and potential path from NOAA on Dorian. Not looking good for ECF members in SE Florida, for those on the Eastern side of the hurricane in NE Florida, nor for those of us who live very close to the H in the center of the state. Looks like a potential repeat of Charlie, Frances, and Jeanne in 2004 and Irma 2 summers ago. UGH....

HURRICANE DORIAN

Sorry for the interruption. Carry on. :)

Time to go test the generator, get at least 25 gallons of gas and a bunch of water. If/when we lose power...generator will power some things (fridges, freezer, couple portable fans, couple lamps), but not the well pump. 93 yr. old mother and I did well in past hurricanes...so this one should be no different, hopefully.

Stay safe!!! Florida peeps, you’ll be in my prayers. Hoping this sucker doesn’t cross Florida and come back to life in the Gulf. After Katrina we bought some battery operated table fans. Worth putting on the list for next year. For those new to storm season...Don’t forget, bleach the tub and fill with water. You can use it to flush and wash so you don’t waste drinking water. Lord, I HATE hurricane season :(

My best thoughts heading down to everyone in the Southeast and Gulf. Talk of it strengthening is sounding quite serious so starting to prep now trumps online sales orders. I went through Sandy in NY and had no real wind or flood damage but was without power for 16 days with no generator. The only things that got me through were some deep discharge marine batteries and two inverters. The first week wasn't terrible, but then it turned cold. That made it a tough time until restoration, especially with the dog being such a blanket thief. But at least I was on town water. Still had filled the tubs as a just in case anyway.

Everyone just stay safe!

Looks like that could have been a prime time to state something clever in regards to how it is true that we don’t know the exact long term effects of vaping, we do however know the long term effect of smoking cigarettes and vaping is most certainly safer. He then could have gone on to drop a few tidbits of knowledge and cite some bullet points from what RCP and other credible scientists are stating that the general public may be unaware of.

Feels like he was just trying to appease someone and cover his tail from blame instead of standing firm in honest truth and sincerity. The way he conducted himself still has it look that vapers are the bad guys. Nothing was corrected or taught.

Because he is a tool. In my opinion, he's using this to take out a whole slew of his competition. Not that the whole deeming thing won't do that anyway. I think he's betting they have deep enough pockets to weather the storm, while others will not.

Not entirely true. It shows how many good spin doctors you can hire with a $35 Billion dollar investment from BT. He could care less about vaping as a whole, only their brand name and market share.

Besides, Juul just pulled out of VTA. Why help support the smaller competitors you plan to bulldoze over?

The only positive from that is returning focus to vaping for tobacco users. It's a short, to the point, easy to digest message to push. Which happens to be the same message most of us here concentrate on delivering. As to unknown long term risk, sure, put it out there. It's not a secret so why deny it? And if it is directed at smokers and not kids, why should the parents and non-smokers even care what we choose to do to ourselves?

The PR firms are doing just fine for Juul, nuanced, distancing themselves from the "rogue markets "by the regular toxicity testing of their products", and appearing caring. Right down to the casual light blue open neck shirt, no suit and tie to look too corporate. These guys know just what they're doing.
