Loved your description from the link you posted. I would simply add the following...

If one knows, and understands, the lay of the land and its population... the first photo you posted also exists in the Outside.

But yes, there are the dark ally's too. Those can be rough every now and then.

In the Outside I take up residence here when not venturing about it's many other locales. All visitors are welcome.

Personally speaking, I find the Outside to be much like surfing decent waves in Hawaii. Those waves will take even the best surfer down. Most who love surfing get right back up and do it all over again.

Learning how to navigate the flow is key. Mahalo!

One more thing...





One of our fellow members here, BrewDawg, and I didn't exactly hit it off in the Outside. He leans one way and I another. One day we both took a chance and had a wonderful private conversation. Nothing political. We got to know and respect each other. Several people of all stripes over there can, and do, get along even with differing views. Good people.

But it is instructive to go and look, kind of like a visit to the zoo or a tour of an asylum or touching a hot stove never to return. Speak inappropriately to often [I know it is hard to imagine that anything would be out of line in there] then you, too, could be banned.
I think being banned may be a badge of honor, akin to proudly being deplorable. I wear both proudly.

If I were you I would have simply told the specific species of shark "bugger off, these are MY views and I am entitled to them". From my experience sharks do back off when receiving unexpected punches in return.

Yes, I am talking about the Outside. But I can only speak for me and my experiences there.

Something folks here may not know about me...
Very honestly, I've posted some things there that I've regretted. I end up feeling bad and I don't like that feeling. I post a follow up saying "hey, I hope everyone here knows that what I posted was just me venting frustrations and that I wasn't serious about XYZ".

Likewise, when I have posted something where I was wrong or misunderstood another person I apologize, publicly.

Folks there know that about me.

Going back a month or two, there have been a few people there who have said we need to be more cordial here. Those posts can be found.

I understand that planting a flag in the ground gets nowhere. And causes "issues". Cordial engagement is the only way forward from extreme divisiveness, IMO. The extremes we have now have failed us all. Certainly I can't be the only one who feels that way.


Deeming still bites the big one.

I invite everyone on ECF to come to the Outside and participate! En masse. How the hell else do we, together, start making the current mess we have now better? We have to start someplace. What we have now is not sustainable. Nope.

And I am sorry for the following and this should not be taken politically... Democracy is messy. It will never be clean and tidy. That is well documented in numerous books published over many decades.

I do believe We as a collective can do so much better. Together. Don't we owe that to ourselves and the future of our Democracy? Yes, damn it, we do.

That's probably a wise move. I was willing to spar out there (7000+ posts worth over the years), but recently certain mods have begun to participate, and they've made it quite obvious that one side is a protected class, while the other really isn't welcome.
