slackersg:

Take your time and search these forums. A 510 or 808 starter kit is a good place to start. Check here for "coupons" or "coupon codes" (or google coupon or coupon codes + your prospective vendor) and you'll save $.

As long as I'm here...Time to give a shout out to PaporPlas....Wah-hooooo! Hey! I'm still flying high and mixing my own e-liquid! The more I mix the better I get (chirp).

Your advice is right on it. I'm still analog free! Take care or yourself and let us know how you're doing.

(Just a leisurely flyby)

Hey PaporPlas! I've been smoking for 10+ years and want to start living a healthier lifestyle. I did a TON of research and ended up building my own "Starter Kit", but I got a bit of sticker-shock when I went to pay and decided not to place the order and look for a cheaper brand and fewer options. Your post reaffirmed my initial decision to go with a quality product. I just (minutes ago) placed my first e-cig order, thanks to you!

I decided to purchase everything "a la carte" style because I wasn't sure what I would like - do I want to use an atomizer or cartomizer, what flavors of e-Liquid would I like? So many options! I felt that a true starter kit was a bit limiting to one style (the eGo-T with the atomizer + tank).

Here was the final list:
  • Two Joyetech eGo-C Twist batteries (with two chargers - 1 for work, 1 for home)
  • Four Joyetech eGo-T Atomizers (2 Type A, 2 Type B)
  • Two Joyetech eGo-T Cartridges
  • Two 5-Pack Boge Refillable 510 Cartomizers
  • Four Misc. Drip Tips
  • Two 30ml Camel Flavored E-Liquid (1 PG, 1 VG) (I smoke camel analogs, so I think this will be a good transition)
  • Five 10ml E-Liquid - Misc. flavors that I am pretty sure I will like.
  • Five 5ml E-Liquid - Misc. flavors that I am not so sure on (but I want to try)

i support the ego twist too! that with a clearomizer. good way for a newbie to start!

How's it going Commuter?

It is going very well, thank you! I've only had 2 ciggs this week - the second one was today and it tasted HORRIBLE! I only took two drags off of it and felt like I was going to get sick - I could literally taste the chemicals in it. I quickly reached for my PV and enjoyed a good vape!

I did not know what I was doing either. I shopped around and the more I shopped the more I was confused. Found this forum and you could find someone who loved something, and a few post down I would find someone who that did not like that. I finally looked around and tried to find a reputable shop. I did and called the guy and he was great. He actually told me to get some stuff that was cheaper than what I thought I might order. He took his time and explained things to me and was very nice. I won't mention the shop cause don't know if that is considered advertising. It was what I was looking for though. He took his experience with many people he had dealt with and I benefited by that. Think it helps to deal with someone that has a phone number and you can talk to. Just my 2 cents worth

A massive lot of advices over a 43 pages for a new convert: me! :)
Have not yet purchase my 1st kit yet as i am still researching but the few kind advices from this thread will definitely be in my head!
Looking forward to my first vape soon!

Felt the same way ... so many choices ... I figured at some $50+ a carton each week any kit would be better
than staying on the fence trying to decide. Picked out SmokelessImage as the "get my feet wet" kit and
I'm more than happy. The first day is a little iffy as you have to get accustomed to a slightly different way
of "Smoking" but by the second day all is well and you are puffing away.

It's time to give a shout out to PaporPlas........WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!

I guess you can see from my signature banner that I continue to fare well. I'm still immensely enjoying the foray into DIY. The same rules that you have founded in this thread also apply there, and, very well I might add. I still have only lost 10ml of e-liquid to yecchhieness and feel I am improving each time I mix. The tobacco flavors -which I have come to find out are harder to mix and nail down- are still slowly improving so my vaping has been enhanced.

Thanks for your thread and it's golden recommendations; they are tried and true as far as I am concerned.

How did I manage to never see this thread? I have been all over this forum and just now stumbled upon it. Such great advice and perfect timing.

DH and I have been vaping for >1 mo and we are taking our friend down to the local b&m tomorrow to get him started. I just sent him the link to this thread and he will be reading everyone's great advice before his first "shop".

Thanks all, will keep you posted on the progress of our first convert!

Very Nice Read,

Myself I am an on/off smoker of very irregualr habits.

I started to read about E-Cigs as a way to help him since he has been a 2+ pack a day/ 30-40 "hand rolled" loose tobacco

His first E-Cig he still has was an older style Ego from Austin E-Cigs in Austin Tx.
It was a partial kit where dad got some juice a cartridge and some juice.
He rarly uses it.

Myself I have become rather facinated by E-Cigs as a means to be a smoker so to speak and not pick up cigs.

I have found this thread most helpful in basic advice.

Don't be ashamed to buy 10 5 ml sample bottles so that hopefully you have something you like. And once you do find something you like order a few 30 ml bottles so you don't run out.

Look at upgrades as I would have paid X on analogs but I'm going to pay $200 on a Provari if it keeps me off analogs.

I've got to give a shout out to PaporPlas! Wahhhhhh-hoooooooooo!
I still believe you have one of the best threads on the forum.

Here's my :2c: re: the last three posts.

Way to go people! Anytime at all spent vaping is time you are not smoking. Here's the Byrd's simplistic philosophy of vaping:

1.) Anytime spent vaping is better than time smoking.
2.) I drip strong tobacco flavor when the analog craving raises its ugly head.
3.) Even if I had continued to vape and smoke (I was down to 10 analogs a day) I was so far ahead of the curve from just smoking that if I did it the rest of my life it was worth it.
4.) The curve I believe I'm ahead of is first and most importantly better health. The second curve I absolutely know I'm ahead of is the savings. Unless you go wild -and sort of obsessive compulsive- with the the hardware and e-liquid buying vaping should save money.

Again way to go everyone! :)

Once again a big thank you and sincere appreciationf or PaporPlas and this thread......what else can I say...but....CAW!
