Took your idea and added a piece of the silica rope, ( just a small thread..see pic 10) across coil. Tucked it down the sides and used PTB to hold it. Will test this on 5 v Nicostick that has 510 c2 (r3 I think) cart. Have had a problem with this mod going dry alot. Will test to see if this works.

my digital one is a canon powershot 880is, its ok
but my pc one is the logitech hd pro c910, i really like this one alot.
You'd probably think different if yours had distracted coil loops.
When my coil loops get distracted I light a fire under their behinds. That usually gets their attention.
Yup.. those big tall suckers with the screw terminals.
Of course.. that's back when men were men and wheels were still made of stone.

And model airplane motors could be measured by horsepower instead of the little .049 1/2 A models.
Yesterday I finally did a dry burn on the 3Ω 510 XL that I have been testing. This was after about 10 or 12 refills. With the filler ring finally removed, I discovered that it is a .......ized revision. A probe feels like there may some polyfil down inside. Since this sample has been emptying the reservoir so well, it causes me to wonder if this stuff has been helping the wick to some extent.
A deeper probe indicates that no hot glue or silicone is in the base. But then, it's not necessary to use a probe to find out. If the inside assembly can be easily moved around, then nothing but the insulating rubber grommet is securing it in the base fitting.
Regardless of what is inside, this is a good one. That is, except for the nasty taste of my juice on the first fill up. This taste was not like the usual primer. I have heard that some polyfil of the past has had a bad taste, so maybe this is what I was tasting. When refilled afterward, my juice had the right taste.
Even without the extra shrink wrap on the cup, this example did not leak. That is, no leaks in any position while in use or when stored.
All testing was done with no modifications. All voltage measurements were made under load while the cartomizer was in actual use. Most tests were made with the battery pointed down in order to monitor the actual wicking capabilities.
Most tests were done at 2.8, 3.1, and 3.7 volts. On each of these voltages, the taste did not change until the reservoir was vaped dry. As a matter of fact, at 2.8 volts the vapor dropped completely off before a taste change was noted. For a minute there, I thought the coil had burned out.
My juice begins to be bruised at anything over 3.7 volts at 3Ω. Therefore, I did not do any extensive tests above this voltage. At 4.2 volts, the wick does not run dry with a full reservoir or thereabouts, but I do not know if it will begin running dry before it is empty.
At 5 volts, I know that the wick runs dry with the reservoir level at about half, because that's where is was when I cranked the voltage up to there. The burn in the roof of my mouth was more like hot smoke than vapor. After a juice top off it was more like vapor than smoke, but the taste was so bad that it was difficult to tell what was what. At that point I began dripping with Nhaler Octane, which does well at this power. I suppose it would wick well enough with a full tank of this juice, but I wasn't insane enough to test it long enough to find out how far down the level would be before the wick began drying out. Some of you tough kids can go crazy if you want to with an insane amount of vapor and TH, but I'm old enough to use a little common sense.
If all of the .......ized versions worked as well as this one, then the only complaint I have is the nasty taste on the first fill up. As long as it works well and the taste is good, I don't care about what it looks like inside.

I filled up a full blown R4 KR8 and took a vape. Lo and Behold! Lots of vapor everywhere and with a good taste. A few minutes later, the Latest and Greatest, Fabulous Edition 2, Last and Final Version, Super Duper, Uper Scooper Cartomizer began getting a dry wick and the taste went to SHlT.
If this thing cannot wick at 3.7 volts while tail piping it from an open reservoir, then it goes to the scrap bin. Next!

Hmmm...My r4 808 XL is doing good so far. Were the 510's you spoke of above prefilled/rinsed and filled w/ your juice or blank? Were they the ones 'bad' sent? He said he didn't find any afl in his.
I'm trying another KR8 right now, so will see how it goes.
I should have said more about the 510 in the above report instead of relying on what I stated a few days ago. Sorry 'bout that. It was empty and came from bad. I began using it just like it came out of the sealed wrapper. No rinse or anything else. For this kind of a test, I like to pretend that I am a first time user and completely ignorant about a product. Bad was supposed to send me some of the .......ized versions, but I didn't know which one was what until I removed the filler ring later on.
I've gotten the R3 510 e2s to work with the PTB mod:

They are 3Ω. The one I am vaping right now seems to be doing better.
That's good to hear, BR. I'm expecting some bastomizer 510 XL's tomorrow and hoping they're 3ohm so that my experience will be similar.
