Sandbagging done. Got some cash this morning. Pretty much everything is done. Have to secure the crap on the deck tomorrow and maybe run out to the store one last time for a few last minute food items. If I'm lucky maybe there will be a sack of dog chow left.

Hope everyone stays safe, and hoping that hurricane turns into something milder than they predict.

Start filling the pool tomorrow, super excited about that.

On a juice note, I ordered peppermint blast with my last order and mixed with some Tuscan Cocoa. Super fun and different!

be sure to take a water meter reading before and after pool filling to have the amount subtracted from the water bill sewerage portion... ( if your bill is set up that way) down here in Nawlinz, they base the sewerage amount of the bill on the amount of water consumed... and when I filled my pool I ended up with a water bill that was 4X the norm ( extra water used and sewerage costs based on water usage) I had to fight with the water people to get the bill adjusted for the "bogus" charge of additional sewerage fees.

Pool filling is exciting!! Are you doing a chlorine or salt water pool?

I'm sure you are thrilled to get this project finished. :D

Hey kids! Almost done with prep. One thing I know for certain is the forecasters do not know what will happen here in Wake Forest. Look at one forecast and they say 6" of rain. Go to the next forecast and they say 20". Bottom line: THEY DO NOT KNOW!! This falls in the category of, "Prepare for the worst and hope for the best". The one forecast that seems to be holding steady for the last 30 hours is the thing will take a hard left turn when it makes land. That definitely works in our favor here. We can expect tropical winds instead of hurricane winds and maybe 6 - 12" less rain if that is how it plays out. That would be helpful. Not for those poor people up and down the coast though. They're screwed! My nephews used to live on the outer banks but they're in Texas now. I'm sure they're glad. :)

I have a separate meter for outgoing water, but appreciate the insight. I never would have thought of that, I called the water company to confirm. Thank you!

Hmm... OuterBanks or Texas?? I’d pick OBX for sure, even with storms and evacuations....

Go South Florence! Got the weather channel on now (while the other eye is on the pool guy). I like the coverage from that plane that flies into the storm.

I saw a pic of empty store shelves - except for the full section of packaged vegan food. I can’t post it here because of bad language, but in essence it said folks would rather starve than eat that crap. Made me bust out laughing - I think I laughed due to stress relief.

Back in the 70’s when I worked in health food we didn’t call it vegan (that I recall). I tried some of it and it was like eating badly spiced cardboard. Nothing I did to try to improve the flavor helped. It just tasted funky. Blech!

But I’d still eat that rather than starve. I’d go for the dog chow first though.

kewlll on the separate meter... we can get separate meters down here but they charge over 2000$ to install ( they feel that its a luxury item and one can afford it if you can afford a pool)

I’ve got 2 hoses going and I think this is going to take a very long time, like a solid day. I have to work tomorrow so I’ll probably set my alarm and wake up frequently tonight to check on it. I’ve got someone coming out Saturday to show me how it all works, and do the start up chemicals etc... then of course I work for 3 days then leave for florida so it’ll be another week before I can enjoy it fully.

Hope everyone had a nice Thursday!

My neighbor works in produce at our supermarket. Saw him today. He said organics are gone. Those people ares o dedicated to eating organics they cleaned it out days ago. They refuse to eat non-organic.

Got our first downpour at 3PM this afternoon. More coming. But I think we have dodged a bullet for the most part.

Bronze Are you on the coast? I sure hope not. Praying things work for the best for you. My SIL and hubby and three dogs live in Oriental and had to evac :(. Right in the worst of the path. They don't know if they will have a house when they are allowed back or if it will be ruined by the floods.

No Bea. I'm near Raleigh. Our forecast isnt as bad as it was 48 hours ago when they determined that thing was going to turn left. That worked in our favor. We'll still see rain and wind but it wont be as bad as initially predicted. Yes, many homes and entire towns will be forever gone after today. Sad to say. But they'll still be alive.
