KK, heard a stat today. We've see 7 major hurricanes (I believe that is cat 3 and above) make land in the last 50 years. There were 19 the previous 50 years.

Quote from Mark Twain:

Figures often beguile me, particularly when I have the arranging of them myself; in which case the remark attributed to Disraeli would often apply with justice and force: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics."

New Orleans La.
longggg day. just got home about 20 min ago ( its now 5 am fri) IIRC ( its all ablurrrr now) I got up for 5:30 on thursday...
put in 760 miles and we took on a "new" contract ... I dealt( why is it spelled dealt and not like felt) with these people before with my previous job... the company Im working for now is all excited about dealing with this "new" contract...
when they told me who it was I became REALLY hesitant to take the run and they asked why... I told them they screw up everything, make serious mistakes and want deliveries to be done when no one is at the place.... they told me that this is not to be concerned about...

wellll.... I take the run and about halfway to baton Rouge I get a call ( #1 call) telling me that there is a SNAFU with the order...
somehow a box going to Grand Rapids got diverted to Baton Rouge... I get to the Baton Rouge air port and no one is there at the counter ( make phone call #2) I was supposed to be at the airport no later than 10:45pm... got there for 11:05 ( plane hasnt even landed yet) I accept the proper crate and the counter guy tells me I am now responsible for the other one... ( phone call #3) to tell dispatch we have an orphan... was told to grab it anyway... off to Lafayette ( another 70 miles further west) I get to the hospital and no one there knows of the person on the packing list and no one has any idea as to where it is to be delivered to... info on packing info is just a name and a phone# ( that goes to voicemail everytime) (call#4) I call dispatch to inform them of an undeliverable item... finally, I get a text telling me to bring the box to the recieving department ( which is supposed to be open 24/7) drive around back and its locked up tighter than a frogsbutt ( call#5) I inform dispatch recieving is closed... this is when things get wild.... the dispatcher is going nuts trying to resolve all of this SNAFU and Im reminding him of our previous conversation of how this company is famous for this kind of stuff... a decision is made to just leave the box by the outside of the door at recieving... at least I got 77 minutes of wait time and a return with product back to new orleans ( the grand rapids box) once everything settled down, the dispatcher asked me is this is how its going to be all the time??? and I said YES!!!
I could hear the life leak from him like a hole in a balloon...

Good morning.

So I just got the call from the surgeons office. September 24th is my surgery. I really wanted this done earlier than Oct 1st and his scheduler worked her magic and made it happen! 10 days!!!

Praying it works the way I am visualizing with my whole heart and soul.

List of United States hurricanes - Wikipedia

The most destructive hurricanes of the last 50 years | Deseret News

I see Florence downgraded to a Cat 1 yesterday. My prayers are still for the people who are in the storm path, and rising water from rivers etc...
Floyd in 99 and Dennis in 05 were the worst canes I saw here since moving here in 1998. Floyd was a drowner. Dennis was goofy. Came on the NC shore and peed all over everything then went back out to the ocean and returned again to pee all over NC again.

I concluded awhile ago that CAT categories are overplayed. Wind damage is bad enuf to be sure but the catastrophic damage is caused by flooding...rain and surge.

The Cape Fear River is flowing backwards.

The worst wind from a hurricane I remember was from Katrina here. The worst rain we got from one was from Hurricane Harvey. (I had to evacuate) Even so Katrina just bowed my trees down. A tornado that went through here ripped huge branches off of my pin oak tree. They said it was straight line winds, I believe. I could hear them being ripped off the tree. I peaked through the blinds and could see it happening. Scary stuff!

I used to love beaches, but would never live on one. I prefer hills and mountains for terrain. Storms effect a much heavier populace, because we have had a huge increase in the USA. This of course is mostly on the east side of this country.

OK, Florence has finally arrived here. Power on and off the last several hours. A couple spells of torrential rain with heart pounding wind. Not huuricane force but strong tropical. Probably 60+. What makes it heart pounding is looking at the trees getting whipped around and the sound of it. It's deafening. You're helpless to stop one of those big ole oaks from coming down. All I can say is those oaks must have one hell of a root system to withstand that.
