My response to those kinds of things is usually either to ignore them and possibly roll my eyes, or, if they happen to be someone open to learning more, I'll direct them to places for more information after giving them a brief lesson on what is known and what is speculation, misinformation, or just plain scare tactics.

I make a point of telling people (when it comes up) that vaping hasn't existed long enough for there to be long term studies, but a lot of us view it as harm reduction because of the known negative effects of smoking and the improved health a lot of vapers experience after they switch.
