There are different kinds of addictions, both physical and psychological.
...

This is a Very Good Point.

I feel that I was Extremely Physically Addicted and Dependent to the Chemicals in Analogs when I Smoked.

But Now, my Addiction is more of a Mental Addiction to e-Cigarettes.

I would like to say I have quit my addiction to nicotine, but I can't say that yet. I can't go back either because the cig taste has become irrelevant. Just don't want to be dependant on this pv device forever. I see as a great substitution though. It is like starting off with an 8-bit Nintendo, then to a Super Nintendo, Xbox, ....... whatever the new gaming system is or will be. That's my 2 cents.

This is my exact feeling right now. I am down to 6mg nic and about to go to 0 nic, but my end goal is to put this mod in the classifieds and be COMPLETELY FREE of puffing on anything at all. I realize it's a process, just like the process of me becoming addicted to analogs. It didn't happen overnight and quitting vaping won't either, but I feel amazing without the anlaogs and even look different in terms of hair, nails, lips, eyes, skin...everything!

I still need to break my oral fixation habit, true, but eCigs provide me with an opportunity to do so. Cogarettes don't. In fact, cigarettes held me addicted to more than just the oral and the nicotine. I still crave one now and then. Some people say its the MAOi(?) some say its the arsenic and lots of other chemicals and toxins. (Like how a victim falls in false love with their tormenter). The eCigs, allow me to give up the two most lingering habits, if I so desire to do so. (Nicotine and oral).

Oh, and shopping.
Well, that's a different addiction I've recently became aware of, but trust me, my husband is working on that one for me.

I feel that I probably Vape more than i smoked before... i think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I can vape indoors, whereas before I never smoked indoors.

When it comes to non-smokers using e-cigs, I would say if they do it for the flavor or the oral aspect, I would say they could do zero-nic and it won't be an issue... have at it.

The vaping process has been the only thing to work for me after 20 years smoking, so I definitely will recommend it to anyone that wants to quit tobacco

It's a trap! OP if you want to believe all that disinformation from the ANTZ it's your business. But, it is what it is, propaganda with no basis in fact. Simply some data grabbed out of the air, thrown into a hat, shaken slightly and put in order to produce a desired result. JMO

My reason for asking this question is because of two personal experiences that I have had since I started vaping. The first was with close friend that quit smoking (cold turkey) about a year ago. He has asked me about vaping and I have discouraged him from starting vaping because he seems to have succeeded in his attempt to quit. On the other hand, I have another friend that still smokes and I have encourage him to try vaping as a means of quitting.

Am I alone with this attitude or do other members feel the same way as me?

People quit tobacco all the time and fall off the wagon a while later, would you prefer your friend to start smoking again before you will provide him with vaping advice?

Absolutely not - if I were to see him with an analog in his hand, I would drive him directly to my local vape shop and introduce him to vaping. But at the same time, I would also strongly suggest that he should not do neither. One of those cases of "do as I say, not as I do". :glare:

I am very aware of people falling off the wagon because I was one of them many, many, many times in my 60 years of smoking. I did everything that was available to try to stop and always wound up back to smoking.

I have a daughter that quit smoking a few years ago along with her husband and I try my best not to vape in front of them because I do not want to be the trigger for either of them to even consider taking up vaping.

Glen - I don't even read anything about the ANTZ nuts much less believe it. But you have to think back to the time when cigarette smoking was totally accepted. When I started on analogs in the 50s, I was living with a family of six brothers and a Mom and Dad that all smoked. Hell there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. When the realization started to set in on how potentially harmful smoking actually was, the initial nay-sayers were considered nut cases throwing out a bunch of anti-smoking propaganda. But time (and a lot of lung cancer and emphysema deaths) eventually proved that the nut cases were right.

I'm certainly not putting vaping in the same risk category that we now know is true for smoking, but I am also not going to blindly accept vaping as a totally risk free venture. Especially when you see the disclaimers and warnings that all of the ecig vendors use on their packaging and advertising.

It looks like we brainwashed ourselves into thinking nicotine was the reason for quitting cigarette smoking in the first place.
In reality it was smoking of plant materials itself... the burning, the tar, the xylene, the acetone, the cyanide..
The word Nicotine became synonymous with smoking, and we have fought to separate it from the terror.
We separated and have liberated it into just another compound that has its good uses and bad uses.
So, if your inclined to think, as most people like to do, just do things in moderation. Same as all we consume in today's world.
Consuming too much of a good thing is good or not, that is the question....

Very well stated. It all almost seems to good to be true. I keep asking myself how come it is so easy to not think about analogs as I am one week free of them after 25 years or so. Can it really be the magical cure without consequences?

Time will tell.

One known side effect we know to be true in a small percentage of people is the allergic reaction to PG or flavorings.
I just read some threads on this forum from 2011 with some folks experiencing some severe skin rashes and swelling.
I just pray that it can be overcome for anyone with these reactions.

Let us pray :)

Monkeys are Funny.

Some are Mean and Ugly. Some are Nice and Cute. And some are Just Monkeys. But no matter the Monkey, the Best Place for a Monkey is Not on Your Back.

I read some Many Posts where People say... "Why Can't I Vape at Work?" or "IHOP doesn't allow Vaping, they Suck" or "Do you guys Vape in the Movies?"

I don't think many would argue that e-Cigarettes are Better for you Smoking Cigarettes. But does a Person want to get to the point where they can't get from the Cab to the Curb without Taking a Hit off their Mod?

Hers how my body feels about it..

Snow White in its broken down form is a powder , and is addicting, some can stop, most stop, but some are highly addicted.

Nicotine in ecig form I relegate not as addicting as analogs but along with how it is imbibed, although not nearly as addicting as Snow White is to wicked step mother , is still an addictive chemical

Stay with me now..

Snow White manufactured in such a way as to potentiate it as in wicked step mother is much more highly addictive and much stronger in addiction reinforcement.much more hits the brain at once..

Analog Cigarettes manufactured and adulterated potentiatse it's impact/ reinforcement , I'm not saying necessarily on purpose, but for all intents and purposes of my example.are the highly addictive form of nicotine..and hits the brain at once.

Vaping is much less efficient at gettin the nicotine to us in the sense we don't get the buzz, we actually get the bad effects of nicotine If we overdo it, so it is actually self limiting..

Anyway it's been a long day and I apologize for the desparity between the 2 above mentioned chemicals, and hopefully someone can see what I am getting at as far as differences in how a chemical can be potentiated much more beyond its natural setting..

Anyone who wants to clarify and sees where I was going with this is more than welcome to please clarify.

When I still smoked, & was at a public place, the ex-smokers would run up to me and bum a cigarette, explaining to me, apologizing to me, that they quit several years ago, except for an occasional one whenever they could bum one, but they never bought the, for themselves anymore. Then they would hand me 50 cents. These people, mind you, were secretaries, nurses, Drs. all walks of life. All with the same story.
Now they see me vaping instead. Now they don't bum. Now they watch quizzically. Some approach me & ask questions. Smokers too. Smokers the most of all. They are excited!
I refuse to "pretend" there is not a safer option. Everyone is just one craving away from buying that pack, bumming that cig, wolfing down a carton, ... I refuse to pretend that vaping is just as bad. They deserve to know there is a safer alternative to fall on.

As far as not being able to resist a vape until I'm back home or in my car? Say what? My car is 5 blocks away, don't judge me and I won't judge you the next time you can't hold your fart.
Newbies have the hardest time, with time lapses, which is expected. They are fighting cravings that would drive superman crazy. If they don't puff, they'll reach for a smoke, to catch up on their nicotine fix. They are to applauded, not deplored. Do what you gotta do to keep from lighting up people!

I think it can become addicting in a few ways. Some people get addicted to the oral fixation of vaping, others get addicted to the intake of nicotine, and a few of us get addicted to the next best vape. I have been searching high and low in the 4 months i have been vaping and i will admit... im a next best vape kinda guy. I like the gadgets. I like that its not one size fits all. I dont care about non smokers wanting to vape for one reason, its not for me to judge, and who's to say THEY wont be the reason another 100 smokers become vapers? I had a guy at work try and tell me these are worse then analogs because there are 2 products that they wont release to the FDA. I had to stop him right there and learn him something, and he is a 2 pack a day newport smoker. So some people, they will listen and enjoy a new lease on life, some wont, and will continue on their path until they are ready to stop, or something else happens to them.

So overall can it be addicting? yes in more ways then one, but will i not encourage every person who has an e-cig in their hand to fight the good fight and keep on trucking? no.
