Anybody's MVP2 "puff" counter seem inaccurate?

At first I actually thought it was sophisticated and was somehow measuring the amount of puffs that I was taking, even going so far as to measure the amount of air passing over some kind of sensor so that it might register one really large inhalation as multiple inhalations. Then it dawned on me, that it's only counting the amount of times that I press the fire button.

Anyway, the reason that i thought it might be actually registering the amount of air intake on my inhalation is because it seems like it's counting stuff when I'm not taking hits on my MVP2.

I think it's "padding" the counter number. For example, at 10AM this morning I reset it and by 4pm it said that I'd taken something like 172 puffs. I look at the nautilus tank which was just a hair above the 5ml mark at 10AM this morning and at 4pm it was only down to about 4.25ml Somehow I have a hard time believing that I took 172 puffs on my MVP2 and only managed to use about 1ml of eliquid.

Anybody else think that their puff counter is padding the true puff count number?

My math is not very good anymore, but if I figured it properly, the MVP2 is suggesting by it's puff counter that between 10 AM and 4 PM, I managed to take 172 puffs, that's 6 hours... 172 puffs divided by 6 hours is 28 puffs an hour, or a puff every 2.14 minutes. I know there's no way that I vape every 2.14 minutes.

I vape a fair bit and I'd say that's about right maybe even a touch high as far as consumption per hit. I've noticed myself that I take more drags off it than I realize. For instance my daily is somewhere between 500-1000 mostly depending on how much time I'm sitting in front of the computer in my shop ;) But really some puffs are warming up my coil some are quick some are long so it's really hard to tell I've pretty much given up on using the puff counter and don't check it much at all. I don't power cycle or lock it so it pretty much loops past 1000 when it does.

You have to remember that the counter measures every little push. If your trigger finger rolls over the edge, changes position etc.on the fire button, the counter may read that as another push. Even the most momentary push will be counted and I have found I push it a lot more than I think when it is in my hand between puffs and the like. I think the counter is accurate in the number of times it was activated, it just isn't always completely representative of the number of actual vapes you have taken.

hey everyone i finally broke down and got an mvp yesterday...now i am wondering why i waited so long. this thing is fantastic!!!!!!

i have been floping back and forth from my ego's and analogs.....went four months with out smoking but then went back to about three aday, but now i know i will never smoke again! my protank 3 is working aweseom on the mvp.

still dont fully know where my sweet spot is but i am using a 2.2 ohm coil at about 7.5 watts and is the smoothest vape i have had since starting. anyone have have tips or tricks that they learnt from using thier mvp over time that they would wish to share?

edit: also i have been looking at the vaping chart from steamengine and just to have this clarifyied as i am still a "noob", the number that i come up with in the green zone when i find the number for my coil ohm and "safe voltage" is the wattage i should set my mvp at correct?

The correct power setting is exactly where it taste best to you. There is no right or wrong. Start low and work your way up to where it starts to taste a little burnt to you and then back it down one. There's your spot.

Welcome to the ranks. With your magic box in hand, you never need to smoke another cigarette again!

hey, sounds like a good place in the story for an experiment...

got any 32ga kanthal ?

try spinning a 1.8Ω coil in 32ga

install that and see what 'heat reaction time'

works out to be...

I believe 28 is to heavy for the low powered MVP :2c:

here i go again, i too use 28ga with the MVP but i double tap the button alot of times to get what i want; at the 7 -8 second point on your button press let go of the button then re-press it and it will pick rite back up to complete your vape....

as stated by most others 30- 32- gauge is preferred on the MVP for a complete great Vape....personally i like my coils between 1.3 and 2.0.....1.5 to 2.0 would be optimal, performance wise on the MVP...enjoy the :vapor:

Finally got around to wrapping a new coil with 32ga today. I think i did around 7 wraps around a 1/16th bit. Came out to around 2.4ohms, quite higher than i wanted but i rolled with it. I added more cotton to my wick than the first one (i believe my first wick didn't have enough cotton). It seems to be heating quicker and producing good vapor at 10w's. I'm happy and i appreciate the tips. Thanks guys

I find my sweet spot for most juices is around 2-2.2 ohms at 7.5 watts, so to me it looks good. :)

Strangely, I find my sweet spot at 8.5 to 9.5 watts regardless of the ohms. I tend to like 1.7ohms or 2.0-2.2ohms for different reasons. The former hits faster, but the latter has a better amount of flavor and vape. Youll also want to consider the pg/vg ratio of your juices. My favorite juice is 30%pg/70%vg.

Speaking of, does anyone find that after awhile they can barely taste their juice? Unfortunately, despite trying at least 5 or 6 juices, I have only found one that I "like". However, ive vaped it so much that I now might as well be vaping unflavored because I can only barely taste it (despite the taste being strong at first). It doesnt seem to be a coil thing because im getting a great vape. Ive tried the stock Protank 2 coils (1.8 and 2.5 ohm) with silica wicks, rewicked to cotton, custom coils, etc- no flavor really anymore. Are my taste buds just acclimated to the ejuice? I dont really mind- still get a good vape with a good hit, good vapor production and of course nicotine.

Ill have to try this. Ive been using either 5 wraps @ 1.7ohms or 6 wraps @ 2.0/2.1 ohms. 30 guage 9 wraps produces awesome vapor, but it takes a solid 4-5 seconds to warm up- the second "hit" is amazing. But the first is half air and half vape before I hit the 10 second limit of the MVP (sometimes ill count to 9 and release and refire).

So for now, my preference has been 32 guage. I find that the higher ohm coil I make the tighter my draw is. This holds true even when I make the cotton loose enough to where extended sitting causes flooding. I am still messing with it.

Yes, People call that phenomenon "Vapors Tongue" It will pass but some folks use heavily mentholated Juices to cleanse the palate. I've found that sniffing Coffee works great for me. Smelling coffee grounds is a technique used by wine tasters and perfume experts. The smell of coffee can cause the olfactory senses to reset, which may help revive your taste buds. Coffee will also keep the K-9 squad from finding your ....... at the Airport...J/K :D

I am lucky and found about 4 flavors of juice that taste good to me. I keep several tanks filled with different juices, and rotate the flavors to avoid getting "burned out" on just one flavor.

Agree... 8-9w seem best for me...

And, that is what happens to most of us.. thus the reason to rotate tanks :)

.....@jandry, yep sure sounds like Vapors tung

all the suggestions so far are spot on...+1 on the rotation of diff flavors......i've only had it once so far and my remedy is to sip water while Vaping, all day long if it be the case.....if i'm dripping i'm sipping on water or a soft-drink of some kind and i switch out several flavors during the sessions....while you got V.T. you can vape some of the jooze you have that you don't really like :D

Im going to have to go in to my B&M store and try 20 different flavors. The hard part is that the flavor is powerful on my MVP/Protank- moreso than the test dummies they use at the store. So I test a flavor and its good, get it home and in the protank, and then it tastes terrible (the same, but way stronger). I have had my last sample steeping for a week so hopefully that helps. Ill also try perservering a bit to see if I can get my taste buds to dull a bit.

Once I get 3-4 flavors I like (already have one, and its fine even when my taste buds dull out) I should be set. In terms of the unit, winding coils, wicking etc Im already comfortable with the process..

Welcome!

Check my blogs for free DIY material and downloadable template to make your own bling for your thing!

Cool blogs you have there.I ordered the di-noc last night, and also did the o-ring trick you mentioned.I did that on my vamo a few months ago,but for some reason never thought to do it on the mvp.I finally got tired of lifting the pin back up,so after seeing your post,i jumped on fixing it.I was nervous pulling the pin up that far,but very easy, and works great, and best of all, doesn't matter what i put on it,the pin stays up and everything works without problems now.

Hey jandry, you can also dilute your juice with pure VG. I find that my KFL enhances my citrus juices a lot, so Sando suggested it and it is only $3.88 at Wally world. I mix a lot of the juices I buy, try to create different flavors. Dripping gets me the best taste for my desert vapes and my Kayfun on the MVP are always paired with my all day citrus favorites, Ecto cooler or mountain dew...yummy

IMO, "set it and forget it" doesn't really work. There are times where I have to raise or lower settings even using the same juice in the same mod in the same tank. Our taste buds can swing one way or the other, the batts have more or less of a charge. Tons of variables to think about. If the flavor changes, could be you, could be the mod, could be the juice. Or temp, humidity... the list goes on and on.
