In addition please add this to your own list to check(not the ecf list). I always do both because as retired1 says they look at different parts of the sites you are checking. Just yesterday I plugged in a company that was rated a 'b' on ssl labs, but the Sucuri showed it was hacked and had malware on its site. Can't be too careful these days. If I had not checked with Sucuri and just went off the ssl labs, my own connections and my id, etc would have been compromised.
Sucuri Security
:)
Thanks for that reminder. I've been so focused on SSL Labs that I forgot about Sucuri. :)

I know which site you're talking about. I ran it through a few other checks and it came up clean. In this case, I think Sucuri was wrong.

I hate to ask but I don't know the answer. How does a vendor check your verification with a credit card? Is that the same as using a debit/credit card? A few vendors on the list such as vaporbeast and 101vapes state they use CC verification. I tried to order from vaporbeast but was unable to do so. I also just chatted with a ecig.com (chat feature) and they said they need last 4 digits of SSN and DOB.

There are databases that include all your personal information associated with your credit card. What these verification companies do is run the information you provide at the time of purchase and compare it against these databases. If it's an exact match, your order is processed. If it doesn't match, the order is denied.

I don't own a credit card. I'll assume Debit cards are included?

Thank you for the clarification. Now I wonder why I didn't get approved at vaporbeast. I just did a coil order at evape.us without any problems. I just had to click a check box that I was 18 or older during checkout/one page. I'm sure they are using something but I have no clue what system.

I'm sure there are some online stores that aren't using a proper verification system. Those that are relying on the old "Click here if you're over 21" are going to be in for a very rude awakening when they're caught.

To add...I read somewhere that vendors have until December to have an AV system setup. If that's true then some of the sites we going to that don't seem to have an AV system in place maybe don't yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just did a test purchase and entered my name & address, selected shipping and then got to the CC page without being asked for anything. I suggest you try a test purchase. You can always back out if something pops up.

This brings up an interesting point. If your Debit Card is from your bank and/or tied to your bank account then I would agree that they go through the same process as a cc. The magnetic strip and now the chips retain all of your info, dob address, etc. But what if it is a debit card you buy from Walmart? Case in point American express has a debit card you load and it is not associated with any bank per se and they don't require you to associate one with it. As long as it is funded and you register it with them that is all that is required. Almost all of the other debit cards that walmart sells do require a bank to associate with.

In that case, you'll most likely need to provide additional information to prove who you are.
Thanks, I kinda figured that. But it also brings up an additional thought. Since info is already provided from bank cc/debit cards, then the additional verification process means a couple of different things to me.
1. Vendors using a AV company then puts the liability on that AV company and
2. AV companies are really checking that the card is really yours and you are the one using it hence adding additional fraud protection intended or not.
hmmm.

Just placed an order w/ origin vapes. At checkout it said they have to do an AV. Asked for 3 things.

1. Make sure my name and address are spell correct in my billing info
2. last 4 digits of SSN (optional)
3. year/month/day of birth (optional)

I supplied my birth date but NOT the SSN. Figured they'd find my birthday during the check anyway. Clicked verify ... and I was.

They must have implemented it in the last couple weeks ... 'cause a couple weeks ago when I placed an order this verification wasn't there. No indication of 'who' they use for AV.

Thanks MikeE. Added to the list as Unknown.
I wonder what would happen if you didn't supply either of the optional ID's. :/
