How about 12 wraps, 27g 16 gauge Blunt Tip Luer Lock Needle 1.5 ohm.
I am not real happy with the amount of time it takes to heat up.I do like the diameter of the needle. I think that next time, I will go back to 30g. The smaller gauge would be great for a lower ohm coil. My coils are lasting about 1-2 weeks, with the cotton lasting 1-2 days. Vapor production and flavor is basically the same between 27 and 30g wire. It is just the amount of time it takes to heat up the coil. I also notice more battery drain on the 27g, probably caused by the longer heat time, requiring longer power cycles.

Let me say thanks again for the samples super!

Nice work Sam. You got skillz bro :)
Making a coil is a whole lot more fun than packin and crackin a pack of smokes yeah?

I found that the 27 did take slightly longer to heat up too, but liked the burly simplicity of wrapping with it. And yes, I also like the 17 ga needle. I seemed to have acclimated to coils around 1.2 ohms with 27 and 2 ohms with 30. Here's my theory on that:

The 30 heats up right away so I'm getting the full heat of 2 ohms in my drag.

The 27 has only partially heated by the time I'm finished my drag so I'm not fully experiencing the 1 ish ohm heat.

You're welcome bro :). Glad to see that you have fully embraced the vapor bro. :)

3 min coil. Dont bash for the ugly legs, lol. 30awg .7 ohm micro with cotton. I left the cotton under the coil legs to cool them down. Fires to a warmed vape very rapidly. Im suspecting that by mid tomorrow the coil will even out to .9-1.0 ohms after slight gunkage. Wrapped around a needle tip dropper cap (from my long past ce2 days) unknown needle gauge.

so i'm guessing there's an ideal range of number of wraps for each type of gauge wire...?
I like a fast reaction time, but i guess there are value factors in what makes a great vape and thats just one of them....

Yeah bro, I think you got it out too far. I run mine pretty much centered over the juice hole and parallel to the posts. I also slope the coil so it's high on the juice hole side and low in the other. I'm not a real heavy TH type, so I run the assembly in general, pretty low in the bowl.

Here's a pic of my just over 1 ohm 27 ga on 17 ga needle:

Glad to see you working with the thicker wire. I'm finding I like my wire and women a little thicker than I used to!

30 ga Kanthal
~1/16 screwdriver
11 wraps
1.83 ohm (similar ones, 11 wraps, usually come in a little less than 1.8 but I made the legs a little longer on this one)
Just did three fire and squeezes. Coils not all touching all around. But I whipped this out in less than 5 minutes, start to finish, cap back on, wet coil, soak, vape, from time I opened the little gear bag.

Not enough cotton so rewicked it in about a minute. (No picture of new, more cotton wick.)

I finally got a little order. Having the most essentials in this little bag has really speeded up my coil building/wicking considerably. Little bag kept in a little larger cosmetics bag, zippered clear section on each side; one side some spare non-vaping gadget stuff, one side the little blue coiling bag, large spool of 30 Kanthal, and jewelers fold out glass that I only use when I want to take the time to inspect coil more closely (rarely). REO Grand sitting on bag to give perspective.

Plenty of room for more stuff but why?

i do 8-10 wraps, whatever gauge it takes to get where I want to be. I really prefer 8. Kick time slows with each added wrap.

Yeah, noticed that with thicker ga wire. The 8-12 wraps of 30ga fire almost instantly. I'm gonna play with 28ga for VVGs and VVWs and higher ohms. I don't have any juices that respond well to <1.4 ohms on mechanical REOs. All do best 1.6-1.7 ohm. At 4.2-3.8v the subtle flavors of my juices do come out >1.8 ohms but too cool for my preference.

This is gonna sound so dumb. Do you have an o-ring sandwiched btwn the atty and the mod, liveone? I remember reading where that atty will pull some air up from underneath. And someone had said they didn't get good flavor until they put an o-ring under there. Crazy. Anyway, it needs to be the right thickness. Too fat and your + connection won't contact. Too skinny and it won't form a seal. Maybe don't worry about atty/air hole location (around the clock of the REO) when you try it, just get a good seat on it to see if it makes a difference.

btw. your wick shouldn't lay across your squonk hole. you want excess juice to be able to go back down. just a saturated wick. no extra juice sloshing around in there.

I think part of that is dependent on the particular REO. I have one VVG that was used with a ver1 ERA (not me, from classies, and seller did tell me about it), with the long post without an o-ring to keep from compressing the center pin gasket. On my other VVGs one RM2 doesn't appear to let any air in around the pressed fitting but on the one with the squashed gasket the RM2 lets air in making it too airy. My oldest, most used Mini lets a little air in from bottom without an o-ring and cranked down pretty far. I mean, 2+ years, constant use, is bound to stretch out that gasket a bit. VVG is heading up to Spa for rebuild and updated button.

Love the case! It's so nice having everything in one place.
