So...I was having trouble finding Halo TruPure (still am) in the level I wanted (18mg) at a decent price, and I came upon Modern Vapor...good prices, seemed like fast shipping at a reasonable rate.

So I placed my order and I got a message telling me my order was on hold and that I had to fax them my driver's license.

I replied, "You're kidding me."

They told me that this is required in the state of CA...and I do get that selling nicotine products to underage people is against the law. I have to show my license when I buy them in a store, too. However, I have bought other juices from other marketers and did not have to fax them my license.

The truth is my scanner is out and I'd have had to go to the library to fax it, etc. and I didn't feel like it; plus, I have other suppliers, including one I can drive to (right around the corner from me), so I told them to just cancel my order.

But here was my question to them: If I am an underage girl who stole her mother's credit card long enough to place an order online, what would stop me from stealing my mother's driver's license long enough to scan it and e-mail it? I mean...this is their proof that it isn't a minor? :p

No answer from Modern Vapor. :D

The onus is off of them, once they receive age verification, fraudulent, or not. They have fulfilled their legal responsibility; the parent has not, however.

The criticism of this vendor is kind of getting to me.

Even though most of the e-cig industry has notifications on their sites and buttons we have to press to say "yes, we are over 18" to enter, it does not satisfy the government worker who insists a company prove their customers are of age. It is against the law in cali, for e-cigs, not just liquid.

I believe it is a large fine for one offense and with just a few, one loses their license. sting operations have also been suspected.

Your local bar or liquor store would have to copy all id's to meet this requirement and have a picture of you with the goods you bought, matched with all sales and inventory records to prove the same.

The "honorary" system the industry has been using is far from proof. The best on-line systems the liquor industry uses are very expensive.....and still may not hold up to government scrutiny, if they so desire. I believe more and more vendors are using such systems these days. The only other option that I know of us paying a few dollars more for your mailman to knock on your door and check ID & or have you sign for all e-cig related packages......or not allow on-line sales.

This is no joke. At least one vendor had to contact all of their previous customers with cali addresses to obtain proof of age and continue to do so until the most state of the art systems were put in place.

So -- find a fax machine -- or fax from your computer, take a picture, whatever you can to help help the supplier take steps to prove they are following the law.

take a pic works as good as scanning it

Oh geez, I can not even believe I didn't think of this.

I could take a picture of myself holding my license in one hand and vaping with the other. At least that would be unique. And surely they'd look at me and go "Good God. We only wanted over 21. Not 'remembers Spandex pants.' Our eyes...our poor eyes!!"

I have a question CG. Why couldn't you take a photo of your license with your phone, and send that? Hell, you could take a "selfie" (like in your avatar actually) holding the DL. ;-)

Because I'm stupid. Really, really, really stupid. :D I seriously, honest to Dog didn't think of that.

Easy peasy.

Really? That would be a neat trick.

Really? That would be a neat trick.

Well, not really...because even though I don't have a scanner that currently works...I do have a camera with a timer. :p

Thanks for the advice and info, everyone. Yes, I get that they're covering their butts and I fully understand why...I just thought it was extremely ironic that they WON'T trust a credit card number stolen by a child, but they WILL trust a scanned pic of Mom's drivers license, stolen by a child. :p

carding for vaping supplies (or carding for anything really) only makes the kids want to try it more.
same thing with illegal drugs. generally speaking, countries with few laws have few addicts. countries with more laws have more addicts.
further, the more items placed on an illegal list, the more you are empowering gangs and cartels.
the key is education, not restriction. youre never truly restricted. not even in jail. educate, educate, educate. that is the only answer.
