br,

Weren't you doing some tests on gunk build-up? I'm finding that I get about 30% less vape time between cleanings using a 3Ω E2 at 3.7v versus a 2.6Ω E2 at 2.8v. I'm going to play around with the 3Ω at reduced voltage but judging from the taste difference it seems like the 3Ω at 3.7v is getting hotter, caramelizing my juice faster. Have your high voltage tests yielded similar results?

I am still doing the test, Banjo. Most of my testing now is with 2.5 volts on each coil. As near as I can tell so far, the gunk buildup is about the same at this power. However, it may not be as hard as before. I'm trying to get an excessive buildup at this time to see if it comes off easier. Naturally, this is with my juice, which may do something different than yours.

For the most part, I have been vaping the 3Ω E2 at 3.1 volts, so can't say how it would compare with 3.7 volts in that regard. Since we were both getting good results with a 2.6Ω E2 at 2.8 volts, I was a bit surprised that you went to 3.7 volts with the 3Ω version.

Crap, I must be smarter than I look.

What's interesting to me is that the lower wattage not only keeps the wick cleaner longer, it tastes better as well. Any ideas on what resistance I'd have to have at 3.7v to mimic a 2.6Ω carto at 2.8v? I guess I'm shooting for approx. 3 watts, correct?

You can dial them in to the exact same wattage but,, they will each have a different taste. I have been posting about this same thing an other threads lately.

Well, it's like this:

While I have two VV mods made by Ken at boxmods.net, I was lured by his newer Big Brother 3.7v box, which holds two 14500's in parallel (and lasts a looong time). I bought it knowing my 3Ω E2's were coming and was hoping to make it my all day box mod. Based on my recent discovery however, that might not be the case. I'll probably just throw the 3Ω's back on the VV and keep the BB for backup. I can handle the hotter vape at 3.7v, but I'm not digging the use time.

I understand now. I thought the Big Brother was also VV and that you had a choice. My juice tastes better at a lower voltage, so that's why I settled on 3.1 volts. I found this out while testing the 3Ω KR808's, so knew ahead of time that I would like the 3Ω 510's at that voltage when they finally came out.

Ken does make a Big Brother VV.. I've got one. The only thing wrong with it compared to the 3.7v box is the battery life.

What I'd REALLY like to have is a BB 3.7v regulated to about 3.2v. Probably doable but I doubt it would be practical (or popular).

If there is room enough to put a resistor inside the box, then you can make it work at the voltage of your choice. Then it would even go a bit longer between charges.

Yeah, provari is the new variable voltage device with a micro processor and digital display built right into it, and only uses one battery, for a voltage range of 3.3v to 6v, uses some sort of booster chip, no pot, just hit the fire button 6 times and it brings up the menu setup on the digital screen to adjust voltage and change settings, it looks pretty bada** except for the 150 price tag. uses 18500 or an optional extended endcap for an 18650. and the voltage does not go down far enough for some of us E2 users.

I asked this in the COV e2 contest, but it could be asked here, and maybe raidy can also help us mod the e2.

You know the ptb strips? What if instead of having to buy ptb we just built some permanent ptb-strips made of the ss mesh?

link, then from there, look at 'stainless steel woven cloth' then 'fine mesh'

McMaster-Carr

would it work and then they would last a year?
If it works, then it could even replace the wick altogether, even inside the coil.

Woa!!! Lot o data... Which mesh.. fine I suppose. Got an item # ??

rbonie, McMaster is a modders&vapers dream store! hahaha
make sure you order everything you need before you click submit. I'm still trying to decide which mesh to get, but I think raidy recommended mesh size around 325 or something. I'm still studying the items they sell (they carry almost half a million products, including wick, wire cloth mesh, nichrome wire, nichrome mesh too I think, tubes, soft or hard plastic, lots a things, lol, even nylon mesh ! )

for the mesh, I'm thinking stainless steel woven wire cloth, type #304,(and mesh size probably 3 to 4 hundred) but I'm not sure yet either.

Nobody told me there was going to be math... oh wait, there isn't! :p

Thanks for the link... I've bookmarked it. So I'll need a carto about 4.4Ω to get to 3.1 watts on a 3.7v device. Wonder if e-liquid.cn has any factory seconds lying around...

It depends on your carto's efficiency, anything from air flow to coil and wick, I need about a 2.8Ω for 3.9 watts. BanjoMan, you also need the voltage curve for your device, and gunk ruins the flavor on mine. It ruins everything, even the wick they use Too much gunk can ruin my wallet too if it gets a lot of it.

It doesn't matter, I'd never find cartos in that resistance range anyway...

I e-mailed Ken to see if he can make a parallel dual 14500 box regulated down to 3.1v or so. Since he puts a regulator in his BB VV anyway it should be doable (if he's willing).
