I always figured pantyhose were invented by some MAN who truly hates women (also bras!). By the time I was working, say, early '80s, garter belts were coming into style again, though as "naughty lingerie;" however I always found them FAR more comfortable than pantyhose-- they ride on your hips, rather than cutting off your entire air supply and digestion by hugging the middle of your waist. I do still own some pantyhose, though they're so old that a) the nylon may have disintegrated by now, and b) they almost certainly are at least 1 or 2 sizes too small for my middle-aged body. Not that I'm fat now, or even overweight -- but I was a lot skinnier 20 yrs ago, and everything was arranged somewhat differently. :D Seems to always be the case, doesn't it? ;)

But the thing that really gripes me is hip-huggers. First time around, I was much too young to HAVE hips. By the time they came back, my hips had grown muffin-tops. *sigh* I just can't win.

Apologies in advance to the Ladies, but the renaissance of the hip-hugging jean made for some incredibly awful sights and should be banned as a wardrobe selection to anyone who is not well suited to this style ..

I could not agree more!!!! And any other clothing intended for the slender.... I see women in BIKINIS! who ought to be seen in nothing more scanty than a MUUMUU, and I just wonder, does she not own a mirror, or does she just have no self-respect whatever? Or is she going for the "object-lesson" effect to everyone else??

I saw this porker at Walmart (it seems to be their favorite store for some reason -- cheap food? economy-sized food?) wearing leggings so tight I was afraid she would bend over and show even MORE of her unfortunate anatomy, and on top, a camisole tank equally well-stretched... and this woman's ARMS were bigger than my UPPER THIGHS (which are not small by any means!!). I just don't understand how they can leave the house like that -- hell, if I was as fat as that woman, I'd never leave the house for any reason, for pure shame!!!

I have recently lost 5 lbs, and that makes me happy that I can wear shirts that are *slightly* form-fitting and not show off an unsightly abdominal bulge, rather than the big loose kind I always wear when that 5-10 lbs comes back (usually during the holidays!). If I get 20 lbs overweight, I simply panic, and start chomping the rabbit food, and even (GASP! - shocking in MY case!) do a bit of exercise. But some of these people are 100 lbs or more overweight, and they wear clothes that wouldn't look good on someone 10 lbs overweight! GAH!!!!!!!! MY EYES!!!!!!!!!!

I ran into her the other day as well .. small World ..

I believe, as Pablo Picasso once said .. "All women are beautiful" .. or some such .. and there are very attractive larger women .. but they are attractive because they own it, they dress appropriately and have a dazzling personality ..

Out and out slobs, not so much ...

Yep, that's absolutely true. When we lived in Michigan, we had a friend who was 300 lbs if she was an oz... but she didn't let it worry her, and she didn't dress as if she was 120 lbs. She said she *could* get down to 130 lbs, she'd done it before, but it wasn't worth it to her to be miserable all the time watching every bite, just to be slender. She bought her clothes at one of the specialty stores that specialize in nice clothes for larger ladies, and they all fit, and looked just great on her -- she was herself, wasn't trying to be anyone else, and it showed in everything about her. And yes, she *was* beautiful -- even my husband thought so, and would often flirt with her -- it was harmless, because she knew that he and I were "joined at the hip," but enjoyable to both.

Same reasoning behind quitting smoking *IF* you love it. :) Question is... why? Health, money? To be sure. But if you suffer thru quitting what you love and finally succeed, then get hit by a bus... what's the point? :)

People who never smoked will never get it. IMHO, they missed a lot. Ignorance is bliss. (But in a good way in this case I suppose)

You'll never find something you like better than eating, but as we're finding out, you can find something you like better than smoking. ;)

I can think of one or two things I like more than food .. I may be old, but I'm not dead .. yet .. ;)

That is soooo funny!!! Yes, I would look silly wearing hip-huggers today. I recently started to wear 16W jeans, and having given up on the battle of the waist, I really am amazed I held out for so long. Continuing to wear jeans where it is uncomfortable to sit down is just pure masochism. However, as a VA volunteer, I am eligible to use the workout room-- I usually just walk the downstairs halls. I am going to have to start that.

heh... I've given up on jeans completely; they just don't *give* enough for this body. I like sweats, or in the summer, leggings -- and no I don't wear them so tight that I'm in danger of mooning the world if I bend over. Wearing long enough shirts helps with that, too. :D I really don't get this new fashion for pants so tight it drives up your blood pressure; I didn't like them even when I *looked* anorexic (though I never was... just a hyperspeed metabolism in my youth!). I guess it's useful now that I was always so skinny, and I have this phobia of becoming obese; even past 50, I can still pass for "slender", if not carrying that holiday 5-10 lbs -- and if dressed with appropriate dignity! :D My husband still has that fast metabolism, though it's starting to slow down a bit, at 61; *finally* he doesn't look like a high wind would blow him away. :D

Nothing wrong with some extra pounds. Some of us believe a woman should be built for comfort not for speed. Lol.

I already knew that, actually, as when my hips were so bony, it was uncomfortable even to ME, in certain... ah... delicate situations. :D I'm just glad that my husband doesn't seem to mind if I have too few or a few too many. He says "it's mine, therefore it's always good." Such a guy. ;)

So do any of you 'guys' remember when it became 'fashionable' for men to wear pantyhose under their long johns for an extra layer of insulation in the winter? I think it leaked that some NFL players were doing that under their uniforms. Me - I passed on that and waited 40 years 'till Under Armour invented 'Cold Gear'.

In my mind, Joe Namath will forever be remembered fer his pantyhose commercial stint as opposed to... what else was he known fer?

As fer gross outs, anyone ever visit a European beach? Oma in a two piece had to be da original string t-back/bottom... rectal floss anyone?
