Yeah Viet Nam era veteran we all were that were in. I am considered Catastrophically Disabled plus I can't believe my Medicare and my supplement pick up part of the costs to. I get all for free at the VA.
Being retired Navy right now at 58 I'm still using Tricare. I do have a copay but, it really is minimal. At the time of my lung cancer I was actually using my wife's Aetna from her job as my primary and Tricare as my secondary. Total out of pocket cost for the whole deal was $50. I am sure going to miss it when I have to transition to Medicare. :)

Yep, for regular SS Mike did the same thing and it was less than a week later he had his first check. I never even went to the office. I filled out the forms online and voila! Got my first check within 2 weeks. Disability is a whole other animal though. I've heard of people having trouble, but never experienced it myself.
You have to be able to document & provide evidence of disability. In my case, chronic debilitating disease (RA), alone was enoughn. I had 2 Dr's confirming that. They both were concerned because I insisted on continuing to work. Coupled with other issues, confirmed by more Drs, & the 12 pages of A Day In The Life of Kenna, they didn't give me any problems. I'm not sure it would have gone as well had I filed sooner. The RA alone was enough, but I probably would have had to fight for it. Either way, I would probably needed an attorney.

Thanks MattB101, but one more question please who or where is Susan? Please :)
Go to the link that Yiddle provided in the next post and I think that all the info you need is there. We are having a getogether for a week at a house in Bradenton, Fl. Info is provided at the link but basically for $200 you get the great privilege ;) of spending a week with some of us in the warmth of Central Florida in April. :)

Lol!!! Yah...the both of us could go for strolls...gimping along or using wheeled walkers and/or canes.Seriously...do you play Euchre? if not, then I'm staying here;)

Oh wait...townhouses have STAIRS! I can't do stairs! How in the world do you manage them? oh wait...you just fall down or up them sometimes....

Seriously, I'd like having you as a neighbor also:)
Not all of them, our is a single story.

Just back from my walk. A very positive experience, and couldn't have done it without the cane. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get the rhythm of it, but it came naturally.
Your mind pretty much self adjusts & puts the cane where you need it, when you need it there. I find I use mine differently depending on whether I need it for balance (wooble), or the seldom times I actually need it for support. My body & mind make the adjustment without thought applied. I even use it to stretch my legs out & prop them up as if on a footstool.

Yep. Support, definitely. but I forgot to put the grippers on my boots, and thought the ice/snow would be gone where I was walking, so also needed it to avoid a loss of balance. One exercise is to balance myself on my right foot, and that one is beastly.

Amazing about how natural it is to use it when you need it.

I just realized that part of my gloom might be attributed to the weather and being stuck inside so much...SED as Matt says.... so starting this week I'm going to force myself to check out the local Senior Center...especially since they have Euchre three times a week;) and a small van to transport me! ( I know this cuz I just checked it out online)
That would be great, Kay! Are you not able to heat your sun porch some & use it to get some sun? Or is it just too cold?

I am just getting to know the folks on here and was not invited; so I wouldn't just take it upon myself to crash their Party.

-NOTICE TO ALL RECENT PORCHERS-

The Porch Odyssey in April has, is and will continue to be open (until a full house) to any porcher/porcherita that has the means to meander on down to the Sunshine Coast and share a week with a few porch folk. Just as a teaser: https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p3519987#reviewsPage2
If past ECF gatherings/meetings are indicative, the Porch Odyssey should be an epic and entertaining event! I'll even go as far to predict that this gathering will not be the last Odyssey to be planned and held by our 'family members". Don't be shy, sign up!

If I told you, I'd have to .. er .. you really don't want to know .. "Say Hello to My Little Friend" .. ;) .. I'm kidding, of course (or am I .. ?? ) .. ;)

I will tell you that the 2nd Spouse, age differential, She : 22 Me : 40ish .. why did I ever wonder why things just did not work out .. ?? ;) And then, to come back and do the same thing on the next two ..

These shots came to the surface in all honesty due to the fact that I've decided to create my own In Memoriam video montage, since you just can't be too prepared .. and nobody else is likely to make one for me ..

Still looking for a Liver Lobe donation .. anyone .. ?? Show a Brother some Love .. ;)
