Oh! Mike! What abuse and indignity you were subjected to! My heart goes out to you. I grew up in a home where mustard plasters were never mentioned--As a kid I hated being sick with chest congestion.

DON'T SHOOT! Sadly, If I want grits I have to use instant. It's just asking too much to have to stand at the stove long enough to make the real ones right. I made my Ranch Chicken Pasta Saturday & it took hours!First problem... dem's instant grits... no self respectin' Southerner would ever get caught wit dat box in dere house... And I ain't got no fryin' pan. But I do got a shotgun!![]()
Yeah. You could have plunked him. That woulda hurt! But I gave you partial credit ... I could have just scored your test at 50% and flunked you.
Flunked ... see now that's a word that needs proper spelling ... flunked you much different than ... oh you know.![]()
[emoji514] [emoji514] [emoji514]By the way Brother Kaz, did you see I got my first official bonking from Deb's skillet the other day? Guess that makes me an official porcher. Well, an official something anyways.

We got Vicks on our chests with a hot damp rag & a heating pad set on low. And a dab of Vicks under our noses. If we got fussy we got a dose of paragoric.I remember more than once .... saying 'No mom, please, I'm not that sick, not a mustard plaster'. But I heard it said our parents raise us based on our grandparents ways and culture. My grandmother was German raised on a farm w/ all the home brew cures and remedies. I can't blame my Mom, it's what she knew.

Well, for 94, pretty good!
Still has all his wits, still does the NYT crosswords - in ink. (The trick there is to figure out a few crossing words before writing anything, so great for memory.)
Me too, thank God.Oh! Mike! What abuse and indignity you were subjected to! My heart goes out to you. I grew up in a home where mustard plasters were never mentioned--
It sounds like allergies & his sinuses are draining down his throat & into his chest. There isn't a children's antihisamine.for that young?
For my granddaughter, I use Similasan Kids Cold & Mucus Relief. It's all natural and works for her. I tried it for me once too and it did work. It is really sweet and thick though so he would probably not like it plain, but you could mix it in a small amount of whatever his favorite drink is and give it to him that way.
When my youngest son was small, he kept getting ear infections, so I started giving him a cough syrup with a decongestant in it every night before bed (advice from my older kids' pediatrician many moons ago). He's never gotten another infection. Kids' tubes are in a perfect position for infection when they are small, positioning changes as they grow, so when I thought he may have grown enough, I weaned him off the cough syrup.
Of course now a days, they say the stuff that I gave him is not good, and that's why I tried the Similasan, for my GD, and it does have a decongestant in it too.![]()
FWIW, your pharmacist is "generally" more well versed in drugs than a doc.Miles is 15 months old. Is that too young? It's still available in drug stores? I'd think Rachel would ask the pediatrician about it, but if he says no I'm going to tell her to ask why not. Some docs say no to things, but I'd want to know why not. If they have a good reason I'll listen...
Thank you all for the warm wishes for tomorrow. I was able to get almost everything accomplished, today - except for the few things my local doctor "forgot" to do. Oh well; it is what it is. Now I just have to figure out how to get through downtown Baltimore without getting lost or yelling at some poor unsuspecting dolt who is driving too slowly!![]()

Paragoric! Man, haven't heard of that in ages. My Mom would give that to us for a bad case of the runs. Tasted awful, but worked! We got Vicks on our chests with a hot damp rag & a heating pad set on low. And a dab of Vicks under our noses. If we got fussy we got a dose of paragoric.

I would prefer natural remedies while he's young to help build up his immune system, if possible. Now which ones? No help here, but eucalyptus in a humidifier would be my suggestion. And I got Vicks on the chest with a warm cloth and humidifier. Not that I'm aware of and I know Rachel has asked the doc if there isn't something to give him. The doc said no, just put up with it. Hmmmm.
